Why and How I Choose Sustainable Nutrition

This post is sponsored by iWi but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

Hi Friends! We’re back this week with something a little different, but also a topic I care deeply about…sustainable nutrition?

So here’s the thing, regardless of global warming or any of the other crazy things happening in this world, it is without a doubt that we’ve taken a bit too much advantage of the resources Mother Nature has given us, don’t ya think? And while that scares me sometimes, it also motivates me to make choices each and every single day that are for the good of the earth. I have a ton of friends doing “No-Plastic July” and now a bunch of companies are banning plastic straws, which is RAD, but like…what else can I, as just one small person, do?

Well, I can start with my eating habits, for one.

Plant-based eating not only has incredible benefits for the body, but it’s also important for our planet, too. You all know me – I’m not vegetarian, or vegan, or anything like that because nobody has time for labels here, but I do try to eat as plant-based as I can without limiting my life or ruining my relationship (lol, f’real). Sometimes this looks like choosing to forego the salmon at the store if the only thing in my budget is farm-raised (no, thank you!), opting for beans, nut butter or extra greens as my protein source in a meal, or even buying from local farmer’s markets. Other times, this means choosing plant-based supplements like vegan protein powders and vitamins.

I’ve mentioned my favorite supplements a little bit on here before, but a new one I’ve been taking for a few weeks now is iWi Omega 3 Supplements. I’ve always known about the importance of taking an Omega 3 supplement, but only just started seeing it pop up more and more as a key way to boost immune, neurological and cardiovascular health, grow healthier hair, and a ton of other things important to our health and well-being. As a former athlete/someone who prioritizes fitness, I know it’s important to make sure I’m keeping my body strong and healthy, so adding supplements is an easy to way to ensure I’m doing so.

Essentially, Omega 3’s come in a few different varieties – EPA & DHA are found in certain types of fish, and ALA which can be found in plant sources. So you can imagine how hard (and possibly expensive!) it could get trying to include all of these varieties with just the food we consume.iWi Omega 3 Supplements have the highest bioavailability in the Omega3 market (higher than fish and Krill) all while being vegan, non-GMO, and sustainably produced. They also contain chlorophyll (which helps detoxify the body, amongst many other things) and antioxidants. In a nutshell, these little capsules are POWERHOUSES of nutrition and by providing algae-based nutrition, they help keep both us and our planet safe.

Their sustainable farming methods utilize non-arable land, brackish water, and the sun as the main source of energy. Wanna hear something crazy? iWi’s 150 acres in algae production equals 45,000 acres of peas in terms of essential amino acids and production. This type of farming is 100% sustainable and scalable, and helps create local jobs in rural areas.

So you get it now, right? Every little bit we can do or contribute helps us AND this planet, so by choosing plant-based nutrition as much as we possibly can, we’re helping to keep Mother Earth as beautiful and fruitful as she is today.
