Friday Finds

Ohhh Friday, how I love you so😍

Dancing for Donuts | Friday Finds

This week was a bit tough to get through after my little getaway to Santa Barbara last weekend, but I powered through! I have a jam-packed few days coming up with so many fun things, so that’s been helping for sure. Does anyone else make plans for throughout the week/weekend that they can look forward to? I think it’s so important, even if it’s just your favorite workout class or time to catch up with a friend. Makes it much easier to get through the longer days!

In any case, I’m back with another roundup of my favorite links from around the web. If you’re like me and aren’t at Coachella like the rest of the world this weekend, I suggest kicking back with a cup of coffee or tea and going through these – lots of good stuff on the web these days for health, fitness, food and inspiration in general!

How to Up Your Wellness Game Without Spending a Ton of Money – YES. THIS. You don’t need to spend a fortune on trendy products to get your healthy & wellness on, I promise!

A Donut Bouquet for the Best Sunday Morning – Cannot get over this CUTENESS. So perfect for a gift or party omg.

9 Ways to Make Your Next Pizza Night Healthier – Literally getting pizza for dinner tonight and even though these are recipes for pizza at home, I’m v much inspired to load up on the veggies.

How to Bake With Coconut Flour – And a coconut flour brownie recipe that sounds AMAZE.

How to Energize for Evening Workouts – A must for me now that I’m heading to the gym and classes after a work day! I usually have an energy bar, but these ideas are all awesome!

Ever Wonder Which Non-Dairy Milks Are the Healthiest? – And the non-dairy milk debate continues…I never know what to believe anymore, but I’m fully on board with the taste of all of them!

Okay friends, I’m off to finish up my work, then to hot yoga at Y7 (my fave!!) and a girl’s night with my friend Pam! Hope you have the most wonderful weekend!

P.s. I’m hosting a fun giveaway today with some bada$$ health & fitness babes on my Instagram if that’s your thing!

How I Prioritize My Health With a 9-5 Job

Happy Humpday!! Is this week going by quickly or slowly? I can’t tell…

Dancing for Donuts | How I Prioritize My Health With a 9-5

Whatever it is, I’ll take it! In any case, I’ve been wanting to share this post with you guys for awhile because I honestly know the struggle of trying to live a healthy lifestyle when you have a 9-5 and I think so many of you can relate. I mean, any job that requires you to sit for a certain number of hours, or even devote that many hours to one thing, can be super hard on your body and really hard to plan around.

Though I’m still trying to figure it out, I think I’ve gotten so much better at making my health a priority with this lifestyle. As you all know, I use to be a professional dancer, so going from being an athlete to sitting at a desk for 8 hours was kind of a shock both mentally and physically. I’ve been working a full-time, regular adult job for a year and a half now and here are a few things I do to take care of my mind and body!

1. Plan ahead – I put this one at number one because it seriously is! I don’t know a lot, but I can promise you that if you don’t take the time to think ahead, you probably won’t be able to stick to the healthiest choices. I literally live by my planner, but if that’s not for you, then just take a moment to scan at your calendar or just think about what you have coming up for the week. For me, I always like to plan a rough schedule of my meals so that I know what to buy at the grocery store, when I’ll be going out to eat, when I can squeeze in my workouts, and when I have downtime to re-group and refresh.

2. Stock up on the goods – Okay something else I can promise you: if you don’t have garbage in your pantry and fridge, you can’t eat it. Now that’s just common sense! I personally know that if stock up on fresh fruits and veggies, healthy whole grains, sources of protein, and nutritious snacks, then I’m obviously going to be eating those things. Granted, I also know myself and if I don’t provide a cushion for the times my sweet tooth is raging, I’m SOL and will without a doubt head out on an impulse trip to find whatever dessert I can get my hands on. So this is something I like to plan ahead and stock up on, too – healthier options for when I need to calm my raging sweet tooth😅 (ie. fruit like apples or frozen mangos, portion-controlled servings of dark chocolate, etc.). I like to make a grocery list so that I know exactly what I need going into it.

Dancing for Donuts | How I Prioritize My Health With a 9-5

3. Schedule my workouts in like meetings – Like I said, my planner holds the key to my entire life. If I don’t pencil in time to workout the days that I want to, it’s probably not going to happen because a) I don’t see it on the page so I’ll put something else in that slot and b) out of sight, out of mind. I recently joined ClassPass, and also purchased classes to other studios, that use online scheduling. What’s so great about this is that you pretty much have to sign up in advance, otherwise you risk not getting a spot. They also usually have penalties for cancelling last minute which is both good and bad, but honestly mostly good because it keeps you accountable😂

4. Take advantage of breaks – So I know I’m extremely lucky to be able to step away from my desk at lunch, but I’m sure that whatever your situation, you can take a 15-minute break to take a stroll around the block! Whether it’s during a phone meeting, or even a few moments in between them, I highly recommend taking this time to get up and get out. I usually eat lunch at my desk while working so that I can use my break to walk outside. While I aim for 30-45 minutes of walking and listening to my favorite podcasts or calling family, sometimes all I can swing is 10 or 15 minutes. It’s amazing how energized I feel afterwards and how much better my back feels, too! Besides, it’s not good for our eyes (or brains, let’s be real) to be staring at a screen all day.

Dancing for Donuts | How I Prioritize My Health With a 9-5

5. Prioritize Sleep – While working out and eating healthy are obviously great and important and blah blah blah, SLEEP is your best friend. Have you ever had one of those days where you slept like garbage the night before, or woke up too early, and the rest of the day is absolute hell because you can’t function and just want to shovel in pizza? Yep. Been there! So, the point is, if you’re trying to choose between your 6am workout class or more sleep, the class just ain’t worth it if it’s going to derail your entire day (both mind AND body). On those days, just go for your walk instead, or even throw on a 10-minute YouTube exercise video.

6. Make friend dates more active – I think one of the things we all struggle with, regardless of our work schedules, is maintaining a good work-life balance. I also think that we all want to have healthy relationships and see our friends, so it can be tricky to do allll the things in just 24 hours (well less since we need that sleep ^). My advice? Schedule your friend dates as activities! No joke, I made a friend through Instagram (hi Audrey!) that I literally just take workout classes with. Obviously we’ll grab coffee or something afterwards so that we have time to catch up, but we consider our “dates” as the actual workout class, which means we bang out our fitness AND friend time in one. I also have “walking dates” with my friend Pam and we’ll catch up after work while walking/hiking and watching the sunset. It’s GREAT. Highly recommend.

Dancing for Donuts | How I Prioritize My Health With a 9-5

7. Limit meals out – Guys I knowwww this one is extra tough, especially since the thought of meal-prepping or just putting your lunch together in advance can be super daunting, but I promise you that your wallet and waistline will thank you later. Figure that each lunch you buy out costs around $12, give or take, AND you have no idea what’s in it. Even if you buy a salad, it still ain’t cheap. The compromise I made with myself when I started my new job was that I was allowed to buy lunch one day a week, which should be Thursdays since we have an amazing farmer’s market near the office on that day! I also like to go out to dinner with friends or my boyfriend some nights, so I’d rather save my budget (and calories tbh) for those nights instead!

8. Self-Care I know what you’re thinking – how is self-care related to health? And my answer to you would be a series of questions: Do you ever get stomach aches when you’re stressed? Do you tend to stress-eat or even the opposite, lose your appetite when you’re stressed? YEAH. None of these are good options, which means that self-care and taking the time you need for yourself is crucial for a healthy mind, body and spirit. Just take 15 minutes to meditate, do a face mask, read a book, journal, whatever – a little is going to go a longggg way. I honestly sometimes schedule this time in my planner too as a little date with myself so that I don’t skip it!

So there ya have it – these are some of the things I do to prioritize my health with my 9-5 job, but I know I could be doing better! Let me know in the comments how you stay on track with your health and fitness goals with your busy schedule – I’d love to hear!

P.s. If you want 20% off your next order of Square Organics bars (my new fave – organic, plant-based, high protein!) then use the code ‘dancing.for.donuts’ at checkout!

Friday Finds

Yaaassssss another Friday is here!

Dancing for Donuts | Friday Finds

Do you guys remember the days when I’d work weekends so Friday wasn’t actually a thing? Man, that was a long time ago…

I haven’t done one of these link roundups in a hot minute, but we’re back to our regularly scheduled programming today! This week has been a busy one, but surprisingly gloomy and chilly here in LA, so I’m looking forward to some down time and sunshine. Let me know in the comments what you’re up to this weekend – I feel like spring is always when people start getting up to fun adventures!

Caramelized Figs and Ravioli with Rosemary Brown Butter & Crispy Prosciutto – I can’t even.

10 Hydrating Foods That Are Almost As Good As a Glass of Water – Eat your water, folks!

The Popular Sugar Substitute That’s “Even Worse Than White Sugar” – Honestly I never know what to believe anymore, but this is pretty interesting.

10 Ways to Get Healthier if You Hate Working Out – While I don’t hate working out, I’m definitely not in the mood to do it every single day. These tips are perfect for all days, but especially those when you’re off!

6-Step Workout For Wherever, Whenever – This actually looks really fun…

A Ranking of the Best Cheeses at Trader Joe’s – Reasons why I could never be a vegan😅

The Secret to Making Smooth, Delicious Oat Milk – Ok I reallyyyyyy want to start doing this!! Have you tried making oat milk before?! I feel like it’s so much cheaper than trying to buy it all the time.

That’s it for today friends, thanks for reading as always and have a great weekend!

March Foodie Favorites

Aaaaand we’re back with another roundup of my monthly faves!

Dancing for Donuts | March Foodie Favorites

Let’s just jump right into, shall we?

Sips by – Ok this one is AWESOME guys. I’m now on my second month of this subscription box, which is essentially four different teas delivered straight to your door each month for just $15. What I love most is that you can choose your preferences so that if you’re not a big green tea drinker, for example, they’ll choose other things to fill your box with. So far I’ve had some super delicious teas (an early grey has been my favorite so far!), and they also send you re-usable cloth tea bags for any loose teas, which is great since I don’t actually have a steeper at home. They’re offering $5 off your first box with my code JORDAN5 so definitely sign up and let me know how much you’re loving it!!

Yogi Cinnamon Vanilla Healthy Skin Tea – I don’t have a photo for this one ’cause SURPRISE. I drank a cup every single day and was devastated once I ran out, thus realizing how much I love this stuff. I’m a huge tea drinker (as mentioned above…) but I’m not much of a chamomile person, so decaf tea can be hard to come by. This flavor with a dash of almond milk in stevia is my JAM. Highly recommend. I was almost able to trick myself into thinking it was dessert…

Facetune_29-03-2018-11-37-01

Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides – Look, I know this blog is for babes on a budget, which I 110% am, but I honestly think collagen peptides are worth the splurge. And, you know me, I found a GILT coupon for them and stocked up then ’cause paying full price for these ain’t easy😅 Collagen is great for hair, skin and nails, joint health, gut health, the liver, the heart, and the list goes on. I don’t necessarily think this brand is better than the others, but I do think they have some really cool products like collagen coffee creamer and beauty collagen in different flavors. I’ve been adding the plain one (aka the cheapest) to my coffee and tea on the daily and I definitely feel like my ordinarily brittle nails have been growing more quickly!

Dancing for Donuts | March Foodie Favorites

Maca Powder – I used to add maca to my smoothies like a billion years ago, but I recently fell back in love with it! I honestly love the ever so present nutty spice it adds, but more importantly it adds so many antioxidants and nutrients (like Vitamin C and iron) to whatever you mix it with! It also apparently helps with hormone balance (always a plus) and even boosts libido, so that’s interesting…I’ve been adding mine to my daily green smoothie!

My Air Fryer – So I’ve raved about my air fryer several times in both my tater tots post and my donuts post from earlier this week, but I’m still not done you guys. This thing is SO fun and there are so many different things that you can make in here that I’ve barely scratched the surface. In the giveaway I ran this past week (sorry it’s over☹️) I asked people to tell me what they’d make in theirs if they won and there were so many awesome ideas! I want to start putting more veggies in here (sort of like roasting them, but maybe it’ll taste even better!) and do buffalo cauliflower wings, fried pickles, and even fried fish. So many options!!!

Dancing for Donuts | March Foodie Favorites

Rachel’s Overnight Oats – I discovered this brand through a friend and I am LOVING this overnight oats mix. Basically it comes in a bag that’s got oats, chia, hemp and flax all in one making it suuuuper convenient to make breakfast ahed of time. Even though I have all of these ingredients in my pantry separately, when I’m really in a pinch this makes it ridiculously easy! Plus they’re certified organic, gluten-free, vegan and have zero added sugar. They come in three different varieties and are on Amazon Prime, so that’s a win! You literally can just add almond milk (or greek yogurt – my fave!) and you’re good to go.

Fourth & Heart Madagascar Vanilla Ghee – So I first tried this stuff about a year ago when it was in a swag bag from a food event. I was literally obsessed with it and when I realized I’d reached the bottom of the jar, I was so sad! Ghee itself is kind of a strange thing to understand – it’s basically like clarified butter but simmered even longer, which means it 1) has a somewhat nutty, deliciously buttery flavor and 2) has a higher smoke point. It’s also lactose free but full of.fat-soluble vitamins and healthy fatty acids, making it a somewhat better option than plain ol’ butter (depending on how you look at it). Honestly, I didn’t buy this stuff because it’s ‘healthy’ though, I bought because it’s straight up DELICIOUS. The vanilla flavor is unreal and it’s soooooo delicious on top of toast!!

Dancing for Donuts | March Foodie Favorites

Dang Coconut Chips in Salted Caramel – I’d be lying if I told you I had to use serious amounts of will power not to go through this entire bag the night I got it. The family I babysit for sometimes has these in different flavors so I already knew I’d love them, but DZAYUM are they good. They’re extra crunchy and have just the slightest flavor, so they’re absolutely delicious on oats, smoothies, or even by themselves. I can’t wait to try the other varieties!

Beet Powder – I just started adding this stuff to my smoothies this week, but I already love it!! If you’re someone who likes beets in general, I know you’ll love it too, but if you’re not, it really has barely any taste at all and when you mix it with bananas, nut butters, and more fruit! Like the maca, I love that adding beet powder to my smoothies means adding extra antioxidants plus fiber, potassium, folate, and other nutrients. I just feel good drinking it, y’know?

Okay friends, that’s it for now!! I’ve honestly fallen in love with like three other products this week after I got my first Thrive Market order in the mail, but I’ll save those for next month😉

Have a happy weekend, Happy Easter, and happy April!

xo Jordan

Friday Finds

It’s Friday! It’s here!!!😍

Dancing for Donuts | Friday Finds

I don’t know why this week felt so long (although I’m still adjusting to not working from home on Fridays so that could be it…) but I’m VERY happy the weekend is near! I have a pretty jam packed few days coming up but like 70% of it is fun stuff and even the work part should be fun, too😊 I’ve got lots of stuff in the works both on the blog and on Instagram, so make sure you’re following me there if you aren’t, already!

I’m also kind of counting down to my trip to Paso Robles next weekend with my best friend and have been spending some of my free time researching wineries and fun things to do. I’ve been loving these little weekends away – it’s kind of amazing how much you can drive to in a few hours from LA! If you have any recs for Paso Robles and wine country up there, please let me know! I’ve never been but it’s looks suuuuper cute.

But alright, I’ll stop blabbing (you know me, sometimes it’s hard to stop😅). Let’s get on with the usj – Friday Finds!

7 Tips to Boost Your Creativity This Spring – Been feeling so inspired lately, but almost to the point of being overwhelmed, y’know what I mean? I love these tips – they’re so perfect for the change in seasons and a fresh start!

Chocolate Zucchini Cake With Matcha Frosting – I am obsesseddddddd with zucchini bread and I made zucchini brownies ages ago so this is RIGHT up my alley. Especially with that matcha😍 (also perf for St. Patty’s Day!)

5 Ways to Avoid Making a Sad Salad – PLEASE. I’ve been doing pretty well with my one-salad-a-day thing, but I know I’m going to get burnt out. Maybe I need to start making chopped salads, they’re on to something here…

Slow-Cooker Breakfast Burrito Bowls – Okay YES. Does it get any easier/more delicious than this?!

5 Ways to Step Up Your Morning Coffee Game – My article for ToBox from this week! I swear by the cinnamon😉

6 Recipes to Make When You’re Breaking Out (According to Skin Gurus) – Or like, whenever because they all sound DELICIOUS.

I hope y’all have a great weekend and if you’re celebrating St. Patty’s Day, have fun and be safe!!

Friday Finds

Hi friends! I can’t remember the last time I blogged two days in a row but hey, there was a lot to say this week😊

Dancing for Donuts | Friday Finds.

Apologies for getting this post out to you late, my morning took a strange turn when I got into my first car accident…tooootally not that big of a deal. I mean, I’m fine, but my car has some hideous damage. Basically the other person didn’t stop at their stop sign and ruined the entire right side of my baby, but hopefully insurance will come through! Otherwise, this week has been pretty fantastic and all of the incredible positivity that I saw online and in person for Women’s Day has me feeling hopeful, happy, and motivated.

Two things before I get into our usual Friday Finds – 1) my friend Danielle was so kind as to feature me on her blog! You can find that here. And 2) I have been absolutely looooooving yoga lately. I have a back injury from ages ago and I’m not technically supposed to do yoga, but I know when to hold back now (no back bends or up-dogs for this girl) and have been going to classes after work at a studio called Red Diamond Yoga. I never thought I’d like yoga after work at night, but honestly it’s so relaxing and really calms me down after a crazy day. Maybe I should go tonight actually…

Anyway, let’s do it!

Resistance Band Loop Glutes Workout Video – I did this video earlier this week after some cardio and WOW you guys. So sore!!!!

Is your plant-based protein powder contaminated with lead and arsenic? – WUT.

Oat Milk is Everywhere These Days, But is it Actually Healthy? – Also interesting. I’m a fan of oat milk, but that Oatly stuff is really expensive on Amazon! Anyone seen it for cheaper?

8 Foods to Prep Each Week for Super Easy Meals – Yes yes yes. I don’t do all of these, but I do many and I’m telling you, they make life sooooo much easier!

6 Ways to Hack Store-Bought Balsamic Vinegar into Gourmet Excellence – Here👏 for👏 this 👏 Seriously want to caramelize some onions soon…

Trader Joe’s Breakfast Hack – Breakfast is my FAVORITE meal of the day and I could probably eat it 3x a day without getting bored. This dish looks amazing for a breakfast-for-dinner situation or even brunch!

Thai Peanut Chicken Thighs – Made this for dinner on Tuesday over some peanut soba noodles and dzayuuuuum they were good. Definitely making these again so soon!

Alright y’all, that’s it for today! Tell me in the comments what you’ve been reading! Or if you have any plans for this weekend. I’m taking my boyfriend away for a little staycation for his birthday and am super excited, but it’s supposed to rain here all weekend…how strange for LA but also, we need it so I shouldn’t really complain!🤷

Happy International Women’s Day!

LADIES. Today is our day.

IMG_6695

If you know me at all, you know I am such a believer in women and equality and empowerment and collaboration. I never thought of myself as a ‘feminist,’ but you know what? I totally am. I’m proud to be a woman, to stand with other women, and own all that we are. This world would literally not exist without us, so WHO RUN THE WORLD? We do.

ps. How amazing is that sweatshirt?! You can find it here – I’m obsessed.

Dancing for Donuts | International Women's Day

Happy International Women’s Day to all the women I look up to and the women that inspire me every single day to chase my dreams, achieve all the things a man can achieve, and more. I’m so lucky to be surrounded by strong women (like my mom, my cousin Heather, my female coworkers, my very best friends, fellow dancers and bloggers). I hope you celebrate yourself today and those you love. We rise by lifting others and together we WILL create change.

Dancing for Donuts | International Women's Day

I wrote a piece about my experience in the workforce as a woman over on ToBox, and I truly hope all of you get to read it. I think my favorite thing in the whole article is this:

“We live in a pretty incredible time where women are speaking up more than they have in decades, and social media has the power to bring us together and make our voices heard at a volume unmatched in history. Instead of being the women that have to act like men in order to succeed, I think it’s time we start owning the qualities that make us women: our compassion, perseverance, adaptability, and tenacity. “

Dancing for Donuts | International Women's Day

To all the amazing women I know: thank you for inspiring me every single day and I hope you recognize your power in this world.

Recent Eats

How is it actually the end of February already, guys?!

Version 2

This month absolutely flew by, even faster than January, I honestly can’t believe it. I guess I had a few notable things happen – I left my old jobs (and friends! Miss you guys so much), took a few days to re-group, started my new job, and left to meet my parents in Colorado for vacation. It’s my last day here and tomorrow I go back to reality, so I’m going to try and soak up as much time in the snow as possible!

Since it was a short month that was full of changes and running around, I don’t have too many foodie favorites to share with you like I usually do! Instead, I figured I’d just share some of my recent notable eats since I’ve eaten a ton of really delicious things this month! Hopefully this can give you some ideas if you’re in a food rut😉

Dancing for Donuts | Recent Eats (February 2018)

English muffin with mashed avocado, pink himalayan sea salt + TJ’s Everything But the Bagel Seasoning – I’d be lying to you if I said I didn’t eat this at 3/7 days a week (and usually with an egg on top). I am obsessed with this combo and that is not an exaggeration! I’ve always been a fan of avocado toast (like the true millenial I am), but on a soft and fluffy english muffin with seasonings it is NEXT. LEVEL. If you don’t have a Trader Joe’s near you, I found this recipe so you can make their everything bagel seasoning at home!

Dancing for Donuts | Recent Eats (February 2018)

Kale salad with sriracha greek yogurt dressing (a slightly watered down version of this dip recipe), leftover tri-tip, mini peppers, 1/4 avocado and a slice of garlic bread  – So I’m making a pact with myself to eat one salad a day in March and my lunch at work is generally a good time to make this happen. After indulging hard over Valentine’s Day, I threw some leftover tri-tip (it was on sale and holy smokes was it good) over some kale and peppers. We’d eaten the tri-tip the night before with some air-fried tater tots, so naturally I made my spicy greek yogurt mustard dip. We had some leftovers of that too, so I watered it down and poured it over the salad as a dressing. I am 100% doing that again – SO good!!

Dancing for Donuts | Friday Finds

SquareOrganics plant-based protein bars – I am allllll about the bars and I’ve pretty much tried every bar under the sun, but these are different!! I love the texture so much – a little crunchy as opposed to some of the bars that are really soft and gooey, and the flavors are to die for. I also love that they’re plant-based (something I’m trying to be more of!) and they donate part of their proceeds to fight human trafficking. SO awesome. If you want to try a sampler pack for yourself for $12.99 + tax, just text SAMPLER to 33222!

Dancing for Donuts | Recent Eats (February 2018)

Rubio’s wild-caught red shrimp bowl – You know me guys, I don’t usually eat “fast food,” which I totally thought Rubio’s was, but to be honest it’s more just fast casual like a Panera. I went for lunch with my boyfriend recently and tried their new red shrimp bowl and it. was. GOOD. I was so impressed by how fresh their ingredients are and I was able to get my bowl with their ancient grain mix instead of white rice. I’m alllllll about healthy options and they make it really easy to customize the dishes. You can even get a BOGO at Rubio’s with this coupon, which’ll save you about $10 on their delicious and fresh food. Highly recommend!!

Dancing for Donuts | Recent Eats (February 2018)

Green Smoothie with Huel – I won’t go into too much detail about this one since the full post can be found here, but this smoothie has been a go-to for me since it legitimately keeps me satiated until lunch time! And, if you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, you know that I’m usually someone who needs a snack at 11am to calm my growling stomach…these days I don’t have to do that, which is nice😊

Dancing for Donuts | Recent Eats (February 2018)

Air-fried donuts – So I was suuuper excited to make these since I’ve been looking for all kinds of yummy things to make in my new air fryer, but I accidentally picked up the wrong kind of biscuits! Essentially, you just take biscuit dough from the refrigerated section at the grocery store and cut a hole in the center, but make sure it’s NOT the flaky kind! I’ll put an actually recipe up here soon once I’ve got it down perfectly, but regardless, these were delicious. They were pretty much just biscuits that I covered in butter, cinnamon and sugar, so what’s not to like?😂 P.s. My air fryer can be found here and it is magical!!

Dancing for Donuts | Recent Eats (February 2018)

Dark Chocolate Eclipse Cake with cream cheese frosting – When I tell you that my boyfriend had to hold me back from getting thirds (yes, thirds) of this every night after Valentine’s Day, I am dead serious. This cake is THAT good. I grabbed the cake recipe from Chocolate Covered Katie (looooove her stuff!), which is fairly healthy for a chocolate cake, and then smothered it in cream cheese frosting (which is essentially just butter, cream cheese and sugar…oops!). While I have zero regrets of covering this cake in frosting, I will say that if I made this again in the near future, I’d probably try to come up with a healthier frosting😅 I can tell you that the cake itself was super fudgy, regardless of it being dairy free. Obsessed!!

Dancing for Donuts | Recent Eats (February 2018)

Green juice from Kreation – I know most of you probably don’t live in Los Angeles, but if you do, run don’t walk to the nearest Kreation (there are a few around town!). They’re a little pricey but literally everything tastes delicious, which is pretty impressive when it’s packed with vegetables and all kinds of healthy things. The one I had, Green #2, tastes AMAZING and you can see up there that it has all kinds of greens (hence the name…) and my friend had one of their green smoothies, which was also delish. I’m kind of glad I don’t live too closely to one of these, they’d take all my money for sure!

Dancing for Donuts | Recent Eats (February 2018)

Perfect Bar in Dark Chocolate Almond – Told ya I was a bar girl😏 I’d only tried one of these bars previously and I have NO idea why it took me so long to try another!! These are definitely different than the Square Organics bars, but I love them both! You can find them in the refrigerator section, which actually appeals to me since it means they’re not  packed with preservatives. They’re also higher in calories, so they’re the perfect mid-afternoon snack when you need to say full until a late dinner or even pre-workout if you’re getting ready to sweat it out hard. This flavor was phenomenal, but they honestly all sound good. Can’t wait to try more!

Alright lovers, that’s it for now! I hope everyone had a fantastic February – I have a feeling March is going to be pretty great either way. Let me know in the comments if you’ve eaten anything delicious lately!! I need to get back into meal prep and cooking as soon as I’m back from the mountains!

Friday Finds

Happy Friday, Beautiful People!

Dancing for Donuts | Friday Finds

Another week down, another roundup of my favorite reads across the web – but first! I’ve fallen in love with a new protein bar (you know me, bars are my jaaaaaam) and needed to share Square Organics with you because you GUYS. These little things are obviously delicious, otherwise I wouldn’t be telling you about them, but more importantly they’re organic, *duh,* made with plant-based protein (instead of dairy-based whey), gluten-free, soy-free, AND they donate a portion of their profits to fight human-trafficking. How cool is that?!

If you want to grab one of their exclusive sampler packs so you can try them for yourself, just text SAMPLER to 33222 to get your bars for $12.99 plus shipping. You’ll receive a link to the sampler in the text, so you can buy straight from there! And you know me, I love a good sale😉

Okay, now back to business!

3 Ways to Make Flavor-Infused Ghee – After my obsession with Fourth and Heart’s Vanilla Bean Ghee started about a year ago, I’ve been wanting to use ghee for all kinds of things. These flavors sound so delicious!!

Can You Substitute Baking Powder for Baking Soda (and Vice Versa)? – V important!! No literally,  I ask myself this nearly every time I bake because I pretty much never have baking soda on hand. Need to add that to the grocery list, come to think of it…

Slightly Healthier Thai Iced Tea – Fun fact: I LOVE Thai Iced Tea, and I’m pretty sure I’ve only had it 3 times in my life because I know how terrible it is for you. I can’t wait to try this recipe…although admittedly I know that nothing comes close to the glory that is sweetened condensed milk😅

5 Must-Haves from Amazon’s New Plant Shop – Okay, I know this one’s kind of out there, but if you’ve been following me on Instagram you know that I am obsessed with plants!!! I freaked out when I heard Amazon launched a shop because I need to bring more life to our home stat!

Total Body Stress-Relief Workout – I think Lauren is on to something here…also, love that this workout isn’t like, an hour long. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

How to Make a Fancy Acai Bowl at Home – Yep, another one from me😏 There’s nothing worse that spending $10 on a smoothie you could’ve made at home for $4 #amirite?

Why You Should Always Buy Yourself Flowers – Yep, can deffffinitely get on board with this.

Alright friends, that’s it for today! I’ll be heading out to Colorado for my family’s annual ski trip, so I’ll be back with a recap of my trip soon! Have a great weekend!

The Smoothie I’ve Had (Almost) Every Day in 2018 + 5 Favorite Smoothie Add-Ins

Hi Friends!!

Dancing for Donuts | The Smoothie I've Had (Almost) Every Day in 2018 + My 5 Favorite Smoothie Add-Ins

Oh man, I had so many things I wanted to do in the few days I had off in between jobs, and only about 1/3 of it got done😳 HOW DOES TIME MOVE SO QUICKLY?! But you know what, it’s okay, because I actually was decently productive and more importantly, was able to hit the re-set button a little. I’ve been trying a bunch of different workouts and meeting new people in the process, so that’s been fantastic. I also got to spend some quality time with friends and my boyfriend, so that’s always a plus. I feel like you can’t always check off every single thing on your to-do list, y’know? You have to prioritize and get the super important stuff done first…

Anyway, I digress! I think my point was going to be that I meant to write this post weeks ago but am only getting around to doing it today. I know a lot of people tend to fall off the wagon with resolutions for the year and what not, but I feel like consistency and routine helps sooooo much. Since my life is going to be changing starting today (with my new job!), and things have been busy regardless, I have one constant that’s helping me stay on track with my health and fitness goals and that’s my daily smoothie. I’ve raved about smoothies before on here, but let me reiterate again just how incredible these things are because you can literally pack an entire meal’s worth of nutrients into one little blender and make it taste AMAZING. Like how crazy is that?!

Dancing for Donuts | The Smoothie I've Had (Almost) Every Day in 2018 + My 5 Favorite Smoothie Add-Ins

The smoothie I’ve been having almost every single day since the start of the new year looks a little something like this (depending on what’s in my fridge/freezer/pantry):

1/2 cup unsweetened almond, cashew or coconut milk

1/4 cup cold water

2 handfuls greens (kale or spinach)

1/4 cup fruit (mix of frozen banana and berries)

2 scoops HUEL

1 tbsp nut butter

1 tbsp ground chia seeds

It literally takes me all of 4 minutes to make since I throw everything in my NutriBullet and blend it for 30 seconds. That’s IT. I swear. And this thing will last me through until lunch at about 12:30 which is saying a looooot for this girl since my metabolism is usually through the roof in the morning. I used to have breakfast, a mid-morning snack at 11am, and then be hungry again by noon. That is no longer the case! Granted, this smoothie has a ton of calories and protein, but they all come from good stuff. I don’t count calories ever, I’m more concerned with the quality and nutrients of what’s going into my body.

If you’re wondering what HUEL is, it’s a nutritionally complete food that’s 100% vegan, contains 27 essential vitamins and minerals, plus protein, carbs and fats to power you through your day. So yeah, it’s about 10x better than a protein powder guys. It’s made from a blend of oats, pea protein, flaxseed, brown rice protein, MCT’s from coconut, and a vitamin & mineral blend. I chose the vanilla flavor, so it is flavored with vanilla and stevia, but the ingredient list is unbelievably clean. I also love that there’s minimal packaging and that HUEL has a shelf life of 12 months. It’s also super affordable, which I find impressive for a product that packs such a nutritious punch. They also make a gluten-free version, so that’s a plus for people that need an allergen-friendly option!

I think what I love so much about smoothies, especially now that I add HUEL to mine, is that they’re hella convenient. For someone who has to run out the door every morning and either eat breakfast in the car on the way to work or at work, being able to have a complete meal that I can simply drink is key. That being said though, I truly do not believe you need to spend more than $5 per smoothie to make it nutritious or delicious. If you invest up front in a few great items for your pantry, you’ll be good to go, making these meals absolutely perfect for #BabesOnABudget!

Dancing for Donuts | Friday Finds | Spirulina Smoothie Bowl

Now without further ado, here are my five must-have add-ins for healthy, tasty & filling smoothies!

1. Maca Powder – I love maca because it honestly just tastes really good, but it also is known for reducing stress hormones as well as the fiber and minerals it contains. It also boosts libido, so that’s always good😉

2. Spirulina Powder – I don’t know what it is, but just having spirulina makes me feel instantly healthier😂 It has a vey strong flavor so I use no more than half a teaspoon at once, but it’s 60% protein and a rich source of phytonutrients. It’s an all-around superfood that provides a huge boost in vitamins A, K1, K2 and B12.

3. Kale – This is another one that just makes me feel healthier when I do it, but I can say with 110% confidence that you will not be able to taste this stuff at ALL. I’m all about adding veggies wherever I can and being able to hide some in my breakfast is pretty sweet.

4. Nut Butter or Powdered Peanut Butter – I think nut butter is that one component that helps the smoothie keep me fuller for that extra hour. I know it’s added fat, but it’s also added protein AND tastes amazing. I could probably survive off peanut butter, so adding it to my smoothies makes them taste like such a treat while also providing me with some added protein and fat.

5. Ground Chia Seeds – If there’s one thing that’s in my pantry at all times, it’s ground chia seeds. I like to have flax seeds too, but chia somehow always takes priority for me. Again, they’re pretty much un-tasteable yet somehow provide added fiber, omega 3’s, antioxidants and calcium and all you need is a tablespoon. That’s pretty freakin’ magical, don’t you think?

Alright my friends, I hope you found this post helpful! I know it was a wordy one, but I wanted to make sure I provided you with some value today. But long story short, if you’re not having a green smoothie a day yet, it’s probably the easiest change you can make for your health 🙂

Have a great week!
