March Favorites (Food, Workouts, Loungewear, Skincare)

I’m still trying to figure out if March flew by or dragged on…

March Favorites (Food, Workouts, Skincare, Loungewear) | Dancing for Donuts

…Either way, I think we can all agree it was a whirlwind! Between spending the first 10 days of the month in Colorado to coming back and adapting to this new normal, it’s definitely been busy, but I’ve never been more grateful for that.

As for favorites, it’s been a hot MINUTE since I shared a monthly roundup! I’ve been snacking for my life and spending a lot more time in the kitchen (which is basically my living room and also my entire apartment), working on my self care routine, living in loungewear as per usual, and finding my favorite home workouts online. Here’s what I’m obsessed with:

March Favorites (Food, Workouts, Skincare, Loungewear) | Dancing for Donuts

88 Acres Dark Chocolate Sunflower Butter – If I had one addiction in the month of March it was this sunflower butter. If you can’t tell in the photo, this stuff tastes like FROSTING. It’s unreal🙌🏻

Blueberry Magic Spoon Cereal – You guys already know about my love for this low-carb, low-sugar, high protein cereal (I have a little bit pretty much every single day!) but I finally tried the blueberry for the first time and it reminds me of a big bakery blueberry muffin😍 (Code DANCINGFORDONUTS for free shipping!)

March Favorites (Food, Workouts, Skincare, Loungewear) | Dancing for Donuts

Nutsola PB & Chocolate Superfood Mix – I’d seen friends talk about this stuff before, but I finally got a chance to try it myself and it’s unbelievable!! It’s not granola at all – there are no oats, but instead it’s nuts, dates and nut butter, chia seeds, and couple other things. I’ve been topping my yogurt and smoothie bowls with it, but you can turn it into energy bites or bars, too! (Code DONUTS15 to save $$)

March Favorites (Food, Workouts, Skincare, Loungewear) | Dancing for Donuts

Ugg Brailyn II Robe – Potentially the best thing I spent money on this entire month, this robe is the softest thing ever and makes me feel like I’m living a far more luxurious life than I actually am😂 It’s thin enough for SoCal weather, but still super comfy and such high quality for the price!

Tie-Dye Sweatshirt – This is the one I’m wearing in that top picture and have literally been living in for two months🙈 It was the only sweatshirt I brought to Asia, so you’d think I’d be sick of it after that, but NOPE. It’s the most comfortable thing ever with an oversized fit, so it covers your bum in leggings (an extra bonus)!

March Favorites (Food, Workouts, Skincare, Loungewear) | Dancing for Donuts

Obé Fitness – Since we’re all at home doing workouts, I’ve been exploring different platforms and I think Obé is my favorite! The variety is amazing and everyday they have both live workouts (for adults and kids!) and then on demand, as well. I’m pretty sure they’re offering a free trial right now!

Milk and Honey Body Polish – The past couple weeks have been all about practicing extra self care, and I think the month ahead is going to look similar! I love using this scrub because it smells unbelievable (like lemon and vanilla) and makes my skin feel super soft, plus all the m + h products are non-toxic!

March Favorites (Food, Workouts, Skincare, Loungewear) | Dancing for Donuts

D’Isolana Skincare – My friend Jen just launched her skincare line and it’s stunning!! It’s all natural with thermal water sourced from off the coast of Italy and everything smells like an actual spa. I figure since I’m wearing less makeup now than ever before and have the time, why not up my skincare routine?

Ancient Nutrition Lavender Essential Oil – So for awhile, I thought essential oils were toxic to dogs, but apparently certain ones are and others aren’t! Lavender is 100% safe, so I’ve been diffusing it at night before bed since we could use a little extra calming right now🙏🏻 You can also put a few drops in your shower or bath for an extra self care spa situation!

I wanted to add soooo many more, but I’ll save them for another time😊 What have you been loving lately?!

Friday Finds

Okay I know the days don’t totally matter anymore, but Happy Friday nonetheless!

Even if it just means lighter e-mails, I’m still excited for the weekend😊 Although, I’m definitely pretty bummed that they’ve officially closed our hiking trails and beaches because this weather is the *ideal* for being outside. That pic up there was taken last Saturday, and I miss it already.

Though this week has been filled with high highs and low lows for so many, I do think there are a few silver linings to the situation we’re in:

  • more virtual connection with others through FaceTime/Zoom
  • time to experiment and get creative in the kitchen
  • quality time spent with loved ones if you’re co-quarantining
  • slower, more simpler living

That being said, I know I have it soooo much easier than most. If you are someone who is alone or taking care of a family, jobless or working hard to protect and serve the rest of us, a business owner, or literally just anyone at all, I’m thinking of you and I’m here for you. If there is any way this blog or I can support you, please let me know❤️

Until then, some light reading…

4 Food-Safety Tips for Handling Groceries Right Now – In case you’re like me confused as heck about what to do with our groceries!

Easy Quarantine Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner & Snacks – My friend Jacki put together this epic list of recipes from some seriously incredible food bloggers! My Chocolate Protein Zucchini Bread is on it, but definitely go check out the rest.

Pancake Charcuterie Board – Aaaaaand now I know what I’ll be doing this Sunday, thank you PopSugar🙏🏻

Sheet Pan Sausage & Potatoes – Okay legit made (a version of) this for dinner last night and it was SO GOOD. Highly recommend😍

Yale’s Happiness Course – Okay my aunt sent this to me and it’s the coolest thing ever! Yale is offering their Happiness Course for free right now and to be honest, I think we should ALL spend the time to take it.

Grain-Free Frosted Sugar Cookies (Lofthouse Copycat) – Another winner from my friend Gracie over at Hungry Blonde! I don’t know about you, but I used to be full on *addicted* to Lofthouse cookies until I realized how awful they were for me😂 This is a much better option!!

Wishing you a weekend filled with joy in all the small things.

What I Ate Wednesday: Self-Quarantine Edition (WIAW #7)

Is anyone else extremely confused about what day it is, what time it is and when they should be eating? Because SAME.

What I Ate Wednesday: Self-Quarantine Edition (WIAW #7) | Dancing for Donuts

I’ve also been snacking like a monster and baking up a storm, which isn’t necessarily helping my waistline but definitely making me happy…so all in all, it’s just a weird time😂

To be honest, the day I documented here (last Friday), was half decent in the health department! I had made a successful trip to Trader Joe’s in the morning, so we actually had some fresh produce and a solid dinner. I also had to shoot content for Instagram, so that kind of dictated what I ate throughout the day.

And, as always, this post is meant to serve purely as inspiration and even a peek into my day-to-day. I’m not a nutritionist or RD, and definitely don’t suggest anyone follow my habits! They just work for me, but we are all different😊 Alright enough chatting, let’s just get into it!

What I Ate Wednesday: Self-Quarantine Edition (WIAW #7) | Dancing for Donuts

~7:15am – collagen coffee with Ancient Nutrition collagen, cinnamon and caramel SweetLeaf Stevia

What I Ate Wednesday: Self-Quarantine Edition (WIAW #7) | Dancing for Donuts

~8:30am – smoothie with 1/3 cup filtered water, 1/3 cup coconut milk, 1 frozen banana, Tone It Up Vanilla Protein, and 1 tbsp pitaya powder topped with Safe + Fair Birthday Cake Granola (my FAVE – code DONUTS10 to save)

What I Ate Wednesday: Self-Quarantine Edition (WIAW #7) | Dancing for Donuts

~ 11am – sumo Citrus Orange (and likely a spoonful of my new favorite dark chocolate sunflower butter…unpictured🙈)

What I Ate Wednesday: Self-Quarantine Edition (WIAW #7) | Dancing for Donuts

~1pmbanza gemelli pasta with sautéed zucchini and peas, cherry tomatoes, parmesan, and pesto olive oil

What I Ate Wednesday: Self-Quarantine Edition (WIAW #7) | Dancing for Donuts

~3pmCap Beauty matcha with coconut butter, cashew milk and turmeric stevia

What I Ate Wednesday: Self-Quarantine Edition (WIAW #7) | Dancing for Donuts

~4pm – honeycrisp apple that I ate with Ovi staring at me…I gave in and shared a few bites!

What I Ate Wednesday: Self-Quarantine Edition (WIAW #7) | Dancing for Donuts

~7:30pm – andouille chicken sausage from TJ’s, sautéed green beans with garlic, and brown rice

What I Ate Wednesday: Self-Quarantine Edition (WIAW #7) | Dancing for Donuts

~8:30pmMagic Spoon frosted cereal (code DANCINGFORDONUTS for free shipping!) with Lily’s dark chocolate chips

And that’s it!! Although that’s a stilly thing to say, since I know that was actually a lot😂 Eating during this time is definitely going to take some getting used to, at least for me! What about you – what have you been cooking?!

These Are Crazy Times, My Friend (But I’m Still Staying Positive)

I haven’t been on here in awhile and I think it’s pretty obvious why…

I was going to write a Colorado recap post about my trip there with my family last week, and *then* I was going to finally post my Vietnam travel guide, but with pretty much the entire country on lockdown, that just didn’t feel right.

The last thing I want my little corner of the internet to be is a place of negativity or anxiety, and I’m sure you’re all already well-informed about social distancing, so I’ll just keep it at this: I’m not panicking, but I do have a LOT of energy bars, boxes of chickpea pasta and cans of bone broth😅

I think the biggest two things that are hitting me right now are the fact that 1) we still got to go on our big trip to Southeast Asia and I feel insanely lucky but 2) that things have escalated so unbelievably quickly since then and to be honest, I have no idea what’s going to happen to the world’s economy.

But this post is about positivity! Because at the end of the day, this is all TEMPORARY. Yeah, I know, it might last awhile and it might honestly last a lot longer than we thought it would, but this self-quarantined social distancing thing isn’t going to be our forever. And to be honest, I’m kind of leaning into this temporary “new normal.”

As someone who has been working from home for over a year now and LOVES it, I can tell you that there are soooo many perks once you get used to it! And I’m so, so lucky to be here with Alex, I know that, although it wasn’t easy at first navigating how to work in this small space together😂

But if you’re alone right now in your home, I can’t tell you how amazing FaceTime really is. Have a dinner date, coffee or drink with a friend and call them up – it’s the BEST. I’ve lived far from loved ones for awhile now too, and I promise there’s a way to make it work and feel less lonely😊

Other than that, here’s how I’m staying sane, hopeful, busy and focused on the good:

Gratitude

I’ve been reminding myself how lucky I am to be in good health, have a home, have people I can call when I need to talk all this chaos out, a job that I can work from my living room, food, my dog, and a boyfriend who makes sure we have plenty of hand sanitizer and toilet paper *before* it all gets sold out. If you haven’t tried using the 5 Minute Journal or even that method before, just take a moment each morning and night to write down 3 things you’re grateful for.

Hobbies

Coloring, journaling, doodling, baking, and even knitting have been taking up my free time the past few days and I’m super into it. I’d like to think of this “forced rest” as time to do all of those things we always say we’re too busy to make time for. Other things I want to do include reading, updating my blog design, and making more videos!

Work

I’m blessed as heck to have my regular full-time job right now, but my “influencer” income has definitely dropped. I was actually supposed to go on my first blogging trip today but it go cancelled, of course. So in the meantime, I’m focusing on brushing up on skills, getting my taxes in order, and even getting creative on how I need to pivot in order to keep my business thriving.

*If you’re someone who isn’t able to work right now, I’m sending you all my freaking love. I can only imagine what you’re feeling, but if you do feel up to it, I know I always feel my best when I’m learning something new. Skillshare and even YT have so many free resources if you want to take a course or expand your resumé!

What about you?

How are you handling all of this? I’m always here if you need to chat. That’s the best part about being on the internet – we have this amazing, built in community so that even though we have to be far apart from one another, we can still stand together.

Friday Finds

Happy Friday!! Long time no see – this week has been BUSY.

I’ve actually been in Colorado since last Sunday (can’t stop won’t stop traveling🙈) and it’s been SO nice. If you’ve been following along for awhile, you know I come here every year with my family!

Since I just took a two week long vaca to Asia, I’ve had a ton of work to catch up on while I’ve been here, but it’s been the most productive environment ever. No distractions, no social plans or commitments, just me and my parents and the mountain!

That being said, I busted my tush the first few days of the week, so today I finally get to go out and snowboard! I’m SO EXCITED. I hope you’re celebrating Friday, too!! But first…some quick reads😊

5 Ways to Use the New Trader Joe’s Elote Seasoning – Have you tried this yet?! It came out while we were away and I’m dying to get it!

Easy 3-Ingredient Sauces for Chicken (or any) Dinners – Wait…these are GENIUS.

A Dietician Ranks the 5 Best Cauliflower Pizza Crusts – I’ve tried 3/5 of these and totally agree with the #1 choice!

10 Minutes Standing Barre Routine (No Equipment) – I find myself loving quick workout videos like this more and more, maybe it’s because I’ve been traveling a ton and you can do them anywhere! PopSugar has always been a go-to resource for me since they have so many amazing free videos🙌🏼

8 Affordable Clean Beauty Brands You Can Find at Target – I haven’t been to Target in like a month and I miss it, is that weird…😂 But low key, I’d rather be shopping for beauty products at Targ than Sephora rn – gotta save up some cash after our trip!

Tonight at sundown to tomorrow at sundown are the National Day of Unplugging and I’m going to do my best to participate!! Have a great weekend!

January Favorites

Happy Weekend and Happy February!!

Everyone seems to think January felt like it was 8,000 days long except for me🙈 I swear the month flew by just as quickly as they always do!!

It was a wonderful, busy and beautiful month, but I’m so ready for the next one (especially because I’ll be traveling for most of it!). But before we move on, I just want to share some of my favorites since it’s been a hot minute! I’ve been loving SO many products from food to fitness and clothing to makeup, but here are the few that really made the cut.

Simple Seed Loaf – I so wish I could share the recipe for this with you guys, but it’s not mine to share! I tried it from the Love Your Body, Feed Your Soul book by one of the co-founders of Local Juicery in Arizona and it is INCREDIBLE. Super clean ingredients and just a touch of sweetness with the perfect texture. I topped that one up there with Fourth & Heart’s Coffee Chocti, pb and homemade raspberry chia jam.

Karma Bites Chocolate Brownie Vitality Bar – When this company reached out to me in December, I didn’t know what to expect because I’m the bar QUEEN but they’re not all great, y’know? These on the other hand, are GREAT. I’m obsessed. I love that they do like half bar sizes too – nice for just a lil somethin’ somethin’!

GroundUp PDX Cinnamon Snickerdoodle Nut Butter – Never has anything been so hard NOT to devour with a spoon in one go. I’m legit obsessed with this company (female-founded and they employ women overcoming adversity) and their nut butter is insane. Also highly recommend the Salted Eggnog if it’s still in stock from the holidays!

Real Good Foods Cauliflower Pizza – My go-to dinner after insanely busy days! I love the size and taste – delicoius and perfect for one! I trust this brand because they use high quality ingredients and are actually nutritious!

Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Drops – I can’t tell you how many people I heard rave about this on YouTube, so I finally splurged during a Sephora sale and I’m SO glad I did. The effects are almost immediate, it’s clear so you don’t have to worry about staining your stuff, and you only need a drop or two at a time so it LASTS.

Lancome Cils Booster + Benefit Roller Lash – This duo you guys omggggg the BEST. I originally tried that booster from a Sephora reward and never thought much of it, but I’ve recently been using it a lot and then topping it with Roller Lash (or any of my other favorite mascaras!). It’s just such a good combo, I swear I’m obsessed with anything from Benefit.

Athleta Conscious Crop & Stash Pocket Shorts – Believe me when I tell you I’ve only had this outfit since Monday and have already worn it twice. I have that crop top in 3 different colors (love the high neck!) and took a chance on the biker shorts, but I’m SO glad I did. They’re the perfect flattering and soft fabric and they stay up during workouts, I tried!

And that’s all she wrote, folks!! Hope you find something valuable in here 🙂 Let me know some of your monthly favorites below so I can try them, too!

Friday Finds

I’m not sure where this week went, but hey happy Friday!

The past few days have been filled with milestones that were well-documented – celebrating one full year as an entrepreneur + 6 months as a dog mom – lots of fun workouts (I co-hosted a 5 day workout challenge with friends on Instagram!) and fun things like getting a new couch, catching up with friends and getting back into a real dance class!

I was also featured on SD Voyager in an interview for their “Trailblazer” series, which is kind of cool😊 I have to say, the start of January had me feeling kind of meh, but I’m getting excited for this year and what’s to come. It’s kind of crazy to think that we’re already halfway through the month!

Anyway, let’s jump into Friday Finds ’cause it’s been a minute since we’ve posted one of these!

Why Travel is the Best Form of Self Care – From my absolute favorite travel blogger😍 And I firmly, firmly believe this – it’s why we’re going to Asia next month!

5 Trader Joe’s Recipes for Cozy Date Nights In – Why is Trader Joe’s literally the best ever?!

Madelaine Pesch’s 19 Minute Workout Routine – I haven’t watched Riverdale in a minute, but this girls seems SO cool…and looks amazing. She’s working out with Stephen Pasternak of P.volve in this video, and I’ve done their workouts before. They’re super low impact but you still really feel it!

Roasted Cauliflower Hummus Bowls – Well these are BEAUTIFUL. And easy if you use pre-made hummus😅

11-Minute Yoga Flow for Core Strength – Yoga is one of my all-time favorite ways to move right now and moves like these leave me surprisingly sore the next day!

8 Eco-Friendly Meal Prep Products – One of my goals for 2020 is to make a better effort eat/live sustainably! Brb while I order all of this…

Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead, especially if you’re lucky and have Monday off😉❤️

My Word for 2020 (+ Intentions/Goals for January!)

Happy, happy New Year!!! 🎉

There’s something about going into a new *DECADE* along with experiencing my 30’s that just kind of blows my mind in a really wonderful, really overwhelming way.

I don’t usually sit down and really write out a bunch of intentions and goals, but this year feels different. It feels important. And I really want to make it the best it possibly can be since I know I’m on the right path, I just need to get organized…and this blog post seems like the perfect place to start😊

I’ve decided that my word for 2020 is:

GROW

2019 was the year I took a leap of faith and went full time with my consulting business. It was my first time not having a corporate job since my dancing days, a time when my blog/Instagram were really taking off and turning into a side hustle (in addition to a passion project) and the year I became a dog mom (!). I feel like it was the year I planted the seeds for my future, and now it’s time to grow.

I have a feeling this year is going to be hard. Like really hard. The beginner’s luck and honeymoon phase of being an entrepreneur might wear off (it hasn’t yet, and I sure hope it doesn’t, but it might…), I have long-term goals in mind that I need to get in gear in order to accomplish (like buying a home someday), and I want to work smarter because as of now, every day is awesome, but chaotic af.

It’s time to really expand the way I think, operate, work, and navigate the day to day. I need to hunker down and FOCUS (another great word) and make moves. I’m excited.

In terms of other intentions and goals for January, I really want to:

  1. Re-design my blog since it’s been YEARS, you guys. years. 🙈
  2. Follow a real fitness plan, which I now have thanks to the trainer/PT I worked with in New York last month!
  3. Finish setting up my home office and desk space
  4. Make one new recipe a week (my creativity in the kitchen has been minimal lately)
  5. Visit 2 new-to-me workout studios (which I can totally do thanks to ClassPass who’s actually offering a whole month free to new customers – NUTS.)
  6. Read 2 books
  7. Make one YouTube video per week, which I was surprisingly good at last month!
  8. Be more consistent about blogging since I’ve kind of lost it the past few months. I want to find my creative spark again.

What’s your word for 2020? Or maybe you’re more of an intentions/goals kinda person – share them with me below so we can keep each other accountable😊

And Happy 2020!!!

Well, as per usual the time between Christmas and New Year’s FLEW by (just like the rest of this month) and the end of a decade is TOMORROW. 🙀

So much goodness to come😊

But just like I do every year, I wanted to take a quick step back and reflect before getting ahead of myself and jumping into something new. Here were the top 10 posts of 2019!

DFD at Home: Current Routines & Favorites

I’ve got a little somethin’ different for you today!

I saw The Chalkboard Mag interview Sophie Jaffe for their At Home With series and I thought it would be kind of fun to answer the same questions myself! Since let’s face it, they’re not going to be interviewing me anytime soon😂

So a little bit about me if you’re new around here – I’m an LA-based entrepreneur and former professional dancer originally from New York. I now run my own female-focused digital marketing consulting company called DFD Creative and this blog/Instagram, Dancing for Donuts! Here’s a little peek into what I’ve been doing and loving lately from my wellness must-haves to current workouts and pantry essentials.

DAILY BREAKFAST: A green smoothie in the summer (frozen banana, spinach, vanilla protein, pb + almond milk) and a yogurt bowl in the winter (plain greek yogurt, nut butter + sliced banana, granola if we have it!)

DREAM BREAKFAST: A donut (duh), or to be honest, a big fat bagel with lox and cream cheese and maybe a side of an Almond Croissant straight from France. Yep, veryyyy healthy😂

HOW I TAKE MY COFFEE: with frothed non-dairy milk (oat or hazelnut), stevia and a touch of cinnamon.

DAILY SUPPLEMENTS: Megafood Elderberry Gummies + a pack of my Binto vitamins + my WTHN Gut Check herbs if I need a digestive boost (code DFD10 to save!)

KITCHEN TOOL OBSESSION: My Zulay milk frother! I literally almost sent another one home to NY so I could have it for the month…

FAVORITE DAILY WORKOUT: Megaformer pilates, hot yoga, or just chillin’ on the elliptical while watching HGTV. True story.

3 STAPLES IN MY PANTRY: Nut butter, chia seeds & chickpea pasta

FOOD PHILOSOPHY IN ONE SENTENCE: Eat what makes you happy because life is too short, just make sure you’re treating your body the way it deserves to be treated.

FAVORITE THING TO COOK FOR FRIENDS: Gluten free pasta with veggies and/or baked chicken thighs

LATELY I’M ALWAYS WEARING: Sweats! I swear by these from Abercrombie.

AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK I COOK: the Trader Joe’s cauliflower gnocchi with their vegan kale pesto

MY BEST HEALTH ADVICE: Drink water, move your body, and eat your greens.

HEALTHY RECIPE I LOVE TO MAKE AT HOME: I love baking healthy donuts – it’s kind of my thing and you probably already knew that already😊 I love making my Chunky Monkey Protein Donuts and Birthday Funfetti Donuts the most!

So what about you?! What’s your dream breakfast or favorite workout?
