How to Pick the Perfect Healthy Afternoon Snack.

Oh hey friends, it’s snack-girl comin’ atcha bright & early on a Monday morning!

Choosing the Perfect Healthy Afternoon Snack with Shine Organics Superfood Pouches | Dancing for Donuts

This weekend was quite a busy one between apartment hunting, catching up with friends, working a bit, getting my fitness on, and prepping for the week ahead. Can I just tell you – packing my bag (as in my work bag + gym bag) the night before is SO stinkin’ helpful. It’s one less thing to worry about in the morning and that way I know I have absolutely everything I need to have a productive day. One of the things I’m hell-bent on packing is my lunch (because helloooooo buying lunch out every single day gets crazy expensive!). I’ve been doing this for years, even when I was in college and grad school, but I’ll literally fill my lunch bag to the absolute brim with my lunch and extra snacks. You know me, allllll about those snacks 😉

DSC_4285 (1)

Since my schedule varies most days in terms of what I’m doing that day at work or afterwards, what’s in my lunchbag will look different, too. For example, if I know I’m taking an intense workout class when I leave the office, I’ll make sure I have a bigger lunch and a heftier snack with a ton of protein to get me through my workout and last me until dinner. If I’m planning on going straight home after work, however, or even just to the gym for an easier sesh, my afternoon snack may be a little lighter and just something to tide me over. Enter my new obsession: Shine Organics superfood pouches.

IMG_3469

As if being able to get these babies at Target weren’t easy enough, they actually don’t need to be refrigerated, either. Do you know how hard it is to find a healthy, real-food snack that doesn’t need to go in the fridge?! That is literally HUGE and means that if you’ve got class for 3 hours and can’t pack 5 ice packs in your backpack because it’s already breaking your back (been there!), no worries. Or if you’re usually in your car going from place to place and need fuel on the road, NO worries. Shine Organics pouches taste shockingly good when they’re room temperature, and I’m not just blowing sunshine. I was kind of super impressed with the taste here, if I’m being honest!

Choosing the Perfect Healthy Afternoon Snack with Shine Organics Superfood Pouches | Dancing for Donuts

I picked up two of their four flavors at Target when I was running other errands last week and here’s the deal: the pouches have an applesauce kind of texture (which explains why you can find them in the aisle with the applesauce…) and they’re packed with organic superfoods like chia seeds, real fruits, and real veggies. They range in calories from 70-130, which is part of the reason I love them so much. Like I said earlier, if I know I don’t need to fuel myself for a long afternoon, then I just grab one of the 90-calorie pouches called PURIFY, that gives me a dose of nutrients from the kale, parsley, chia, apple, strawberry and guava. I especially love this flavor since it’s not too sweet, but you can’t taste the greens at all…and that’s saying a lot from this parsley-hater!

Choosing the Perfect Healthy Afternoon Snack with Shine Organics Superfood Pouches | Dancing for Donuts

On the flipside though, the 130-calorie pouch called CALM is amazing for when I want something a little more substantial or am craving sweets. This flavor was so good and reminded me more of a smoothie because of the banana and coconut. It also has pumpkin, passion flower, vanilla, blackberry and chia (of course!) so the flavor profile is kind of unreal. You know what, actually? I didn’t even think about it until now, but I bet this pouch would be AWESOME for dessert…

DSC_4262

Although, that’s totally not the point of this post. The point is to tell you that when you’re picking the perfect healthy afternoon snack, you want to choose something that is not processed, has nutritional value (step away from the cheez-its my friends), and will give you the right amount of fuel you need. Like okay, did you know chia seeds contain omega-3’s, fiber, healthy fat, fiber, protein, potassium and calcium? The list actually goes on but YEAH. Those tiny little seeds are legit powerhouses. So including these in your afternoon snack is going to give you maaaaaajor benefits. And again, convenience is such a huge factor too, which is why people tend to reach for the not-so-healthy stuff. Shine Organics takes the effort out of making healthy choices so you can easily grab them on your usual Target run, keep them in your pantry or desk (or even car when the weather gets cooler!), and reach for them when you need that post-lunch snack.

August Favorites.

It’s that time again, folks!

FullSizeRender

Another month has come and gone, and fall is almost here. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited…

Until then though, I’ll be eating some of these insanely delicious things I’ve come across this month! Most of them are linked at the bottom of this post, unless the brands are hyper-linked 🙂

Dancing for Donuts | August Favorites.

FitJoy Protein Bars – Ok so I tried one of these after a free fitness class at Athleta where they just had them sitting on the counter for free, so like…of course I took one. You know me, I loooooove bars, but because I’ve had so many, I’m a tad critical. After literally one bite of this Birthday Cake one, I was in LOVE. I wasn’t even going to have the entire thing at first, just a nibble, but it was so freakin’ tasty I couldn’t stop. It was the perfect texture, a bit crunchy but also smooth and not too sweet but the flavor was on point! Not artificial tasting or anything like that. Highly recommended!!

Dancing for Donuts | August Favorites.

Kiwami Greens – I’m not sure if you caught my post on Kiwami last week, but I’m kind of obsessed. I’ve been having one of these packets with almond milk (or in a smoothie) almost every single afternoon as a little pick me up since it’s got matcha and greens, PLUS it actually tastes good. That’s a win in my book!

IMG_2820

Justin’s Single Serving Nut Butter Packs – Are you sensing a trend here? I’m kind of in love with any healthy snacks I can bring in my lunch bag. I found these packs on sale this week (I honestly can’t remember where…maybe Ralph’s?) and picked out three different flavors. If I’m being totally honest, I’ve been eating the nut butter straight out of the pack like a complete savage, like not even putting it on fruit or anything, so I’m sure that’s quite a sight. Good think I don’t share an office with anyone most days…haha. The vanilla and maple almond butter packs are my favorite so far!

Dancing for Donuts | August Favorites.

Nekter Skinny Turmeric Lemonade – If you don’t have a Nekter juice bar near you then I’m sorry for this, but I think their turmeric lemonade may be the most delicious drink I’ve had in quite awhile, not to mention that I actually felt good about myself while I was drinking it. It’s got just a hint of the turmeric flavor, so nothing too overpowering, and a ton of lemon. It was slightly sweet, but just enough to cut the sourness of the lemons. I’m seriously trying to figure out a way to make this stuff at home. It was to die for!

Dancing for Donuts | August Favorites.

GoMacro Bars – I know, I know, another stinkin’ bar. I can’t help it! I like to try them all and these were on sale at Whole Foods (you know if I see a sale sign I cannot resist!). I tried both of these flavors and was amazed at how good they tasted. I love that they’re a touch moist (overly dry bars are gross, right?!) but also crunchy. I think what I love about these, aside from the amazing flavor, is that they actually kept me full for more than just an hour or so. Even though the bar itself isn’t huge, it’s bigger than many others and is packed with superfoods that satisfy hunger but also provide healthy fuel. Can’t wait to try the other flavors they have!

What have you tried this month and loved?! Let me know in the comments 🙂

May Favorites.

Hey beautiful people!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend! Getting back into the swing of things has been a little tough, but at least it’s only a 4-day week 🙂 I’m back today rounding up some of my favorite goods from the month of May. It’s been a delicious month!

Dancing for Donuts | May Favorites | KeVita Kombucha

KeVita Kombucha in Pineapple Peach: Okay I’ll be honest, the first time I tried Kombucha, I thought it was the most disgusting thing ever (I’m not a huge vinegar fan). I still always go for the fruitier flavors, and this one is hands down my favorite of any brand. It’s so refreshing and perfect for summer. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t crave it every single day!

Dancing for Donuts | May Favorites | Nekter Juice Bar

Nekter Juice Bar’s Tropical Cooler Smoothie (or green smoothies in general!): As a babe on a budget, I generally try to avoid buying smoothies since they cost at least triple of what they do when you just make ’em at home, but sometimes I straight up run out of groceries and still want something healthy and delicious. I recently fell in love with Nekter (their acai bowls are to die for!) and tried their green smoothie with greens, pineapple, banana and coconut butter. It’s easy enough to recreate at home too, I just need to get my hands on some coconut butter! Anyone know a good variety?!

IMG_0463

3-Ingredient Cinnamon Raisin Bites: If you guys saw these on my blog but haven’t made them yet, I can assure you that they are still absolutely delicious 5 days after you make ’em. Not to mention that I for sure saved money last week since I didn’t buy a bunch of Larabars or Kind Bars and had these instead! They’re perfect if you need some energy, or even just as a sweet treat if you’re like me and want dessert literally after every meal…

IMG_0533

Hugh jass breakfast sandwiches: Sooooo truth be told, I splurged at the grocery store and bought us brioche buns for Memorial Day weekend since I knew we’d be making hamburgers. We had some of the buns leftover and decided to make breakfast sandwiches with fresh eggs from the farmer’s market, avocado, jack cheese, and sriracha mayo (1/2 sriracha, 1/2 mayo). Admittedly, there is very little that is healthy about this meal, but I couldn’t care less. And we didn’t even have to leave the house to get an insanely delicious brunch on Sunday!

IMG_0537

Farmer’s Market Burrata: We also picked up this hunk of gloriousness at the farmer’s market Sunday morning, as well as the heirloom tomatoes and basil underneath, and it was freaking. EPIC. At first we though $5 for it was kind of pricey (but still worth it), but when we opened the bag it was actually a ton. And the thing I love, love, LOVE about burrata is how decadent it is. You don’t even need too much to enjoy it, but that flavor mixed with the herbs and tomatoes? UGH. The BEST.

Dancing for Donuts | May Favorites | Rebbl.

Rebbl Maca Mocha: These drinks have been popping up allllll over the food blog and wellness world, so of course when I saw them on sale at Sprouts, I had to grab a couple! I couldn’t believe how delicious this was – so creamy and decadent, like an adult version of chocolate milk almost? I love that it’s caffeine free, but full of energizing nutrients and adaptogens. It’s also coconut milk based and has no added sugar. So many amazing reasons to try it! I definitely want to get my hands on their other flavors asap.

Dancing for Donuts | May Favorites.

Rx Bar in Coconut Chocolate: I’ve mentioned my love for Rx Bars in the past, but this flavor was new to me! I really loved it – not too much coconut and not too sweet either. Sometimes protein bars can be suuuuper sweet, especially when they have chocolate in them. This one was just right, and at 210 calories, it was perfect for a clean afternoon pre-workout snack!

Alright friends, that’s all for today. What have you been loving lately? Have you tried any new products that are worth buying again?

Babes on a Budget: 3-Ingredient Cinnamon Raisin Energy Bites.

Hi friends! We’re so close to the long weekend, I can almost taste it!

Babes on a Budget: 3-Ingredient Cinnamon Raisin Energy Bites.

In preparation for what is most likely going to be an indulgent weekend, for both my wallet and stomach, I’ve been focusing extra hard on eating real, unprocessed snacks throughout the day. I decided last weekend to whip up some faux-larabars and have been having about 4 of these each day as a mid-morning snack. As much as I loooooove larabars, they’re not exactly the cheapest things ever, and for good reason! They only contain about 3-6 ingredients and have a ton of healthy fats and protein to keep ya goin’. As far as quick snacks on the go, they’re something I’d recommend to anyone who’s trying to avoid processed, pre-packaged foods!

Babes on a Budget: 3-Ingredient Cinnamon Raisin Energy Bites.

With this in mind, being able to make these little babies (literally in the food processor in 2 minutes or less) and have them on hand for snacks throughout the week, has made life a lot easier, and my grocery bill cheaper! They’re gluten-free, vegan, and have absolutely zero added sugar, though do keep in mind that dates and dried fruit in general have a decent amount of sugar in them already! That being said, you can pop these in a little tupperware and just eat according to how you’re feeling. If you’re hungry and need something to tide you over for at least an hour or two, I’d go with four, but if you just need a little something for your sweet tooth, knock that down to just a couple. You’re call though, of course 🙂

Babes on a Budget: 3-Ingredient Cinnamon Raisin Energy Bites.

Cinnamon Raisin Energy Bites

1 1/2 cups roasted, unsalted almonds

10 medjool dates

3/4 cup seedless raisins

1 tsp cinnamon (optional)

1-2 tbsp warm water (if needed)

1. In a food processor or blender, pulse all ingredients until almonds are broken down and ingredients are well combined. Scrape down the sides of the food processor with a spatula periodically and add warm water if the the mixture seems too dry (after ~20 pulses or so). *Don’t be too quick to add the water though, as the oils from the almonds take time to be released and they will moisten the mixture!

2. Transfer the mixture to a large bowl and form the batter into 1 inch balls (it should make about 2 dozen, give or take!). Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 5 days, or freeze for one hour to enjoy (almost) immediately!

Babes on a Budget: 3-Ingredient Cinnamon Raisin Energy Bites.

What are some of your favorite real-food, unprocessed snacks?!

What I Ate Wednesday.

For those of you not familiar with the food-blogging world, What I Ate Wednesday is a blog post that mainly just breaks down my eats for y’all, in case anyone is curious!

Dancing for Donuts | What I Ate Wednesday.

While I’ve never done a WIAW post myself, I’ve been reading other people’s for about 8 years and have always wanted to! I find them helpful for getting inspiration for my own meals and snacks, and I think they’re a good way to get a glimpse into someone’s daily life, too! Let me know if you feel otherwise in the comments though, and I’ll never post another again 🙂

But for now, here we go…

Dancing for Donuts | What I Ate Wednesday.

~8am coffee with cashew milk on the road since I didn’t have time to finish it at home. I also think it’s kind of nice to have it during my morning commute, though, so I’m never in a rush to finish it before I leave!

Dancing for Donuts | What I Ate Wednesday.

~9am breakfast at my desk, as per usual! This morning it was overnight oats with plain 0% fage greek yogurt, chia seeds, and sliced banana. I know I’ve said before that oatmeal doesn’t fill me up, but I’m trying it with yogurt now for some added oomph!

Dancing for Donuts | What I Ate Wednesday.

~11am mid-morning snack because I feel like snacking on something, even though my stomach isn’t growling yet. I reach for some (a ton) of cut up watermelon. Aside from bananas, watermelon is hands down my favorite fruit. One summer I actually OD-ed on it a bit and would eat an entire individual sized one almost every day until I realized my stomach aches were most likely from all the sugar…oops!

FullSizeRender (3)

~12:30pm lunch ’cause I can’t hold out any longer. Most days I usually bring some sort of quinoa and veggie mix, and today was no different! I made an easy dressing of hummus, brown mustard and warm water to thin it out with quinoa, green bell pepper, lacinto kale and cherry tomatoes.

Dancing for Donuts | What I Ate Wednesday.

~1:30pm post-lunch munch on my almonds + raisins + dried apple rings since that lunch had minimal protein. I know dried fruit isn’t the healthiest thing in the world, but I have a raging sweet tooth after every meal without fail (it’s super annoying) and I figure having some raisins with a healthy fat won’t kill me! I also walked to Starbucks during my lunch break so I sip on a non-fat green tea latte, too. I try to avoid doing the Starbucks thing more than once a week (partially for money, partially for health), but I wanted to treat myself today!

IMG_9988

~4pm afternoon snack number 2 ’cause I’m hungry again (surprise, surprise!). If you haven’t noticed, I eat a loooooot. I don’t know why, but I get hungry about every 2 hours. For this reason, I try to keep my snacks as clean and healthy as possible. Since I know I’m going to a workout class after I leave the office, I want to make sure I have enough fuel to be full out. That also means I have to hold out until 8 for dinner which is like, 4 hours away, aka forever. I go with a plant-based protein Garden of Life bar (one of my all-time favorite energy bars) that I got from Vitamin World.

IMG_9959

~8pm dinner! Finally! I pop my leftover chickpea pasta and sauteed broccoli and mushrooms from the night before in the microwave with some herbed goat cheese. Carbs are all I want right now, but this is a much healthier version of a frozen burrito or boxed mac in cheese I would dig into had I not prepped in advance. Thank goodness for thinking ahead!

Dancing for Donuts | What I Ate Wednesday.

~9pm sweet-tooth time. I have a general rule for myself that “the kitchen closes at 9,” which is mostly just to prevent me from mindlessly eating in front of the tv or too close to bedtime because it keeps me up. I’m making an exception for today because I had dinner much later, and also because I really, really want some of the clementines I bought yesterday (and a few more pieces of watermelon).

So, that’s it! If you got through all that, you’re a champ because let’s be real, I eat a lot in a day. Sometimes I think it’s a bad thing and I honestly do try to eat less, but if my stomach is growling or I have a craving, I listen to it. On days I work out, I let myself eat some more because I know how important it is to give my body energy. I just try to make sure those extra calories are from good foods!

Hope everyone is having a great week, I’ll be back soon 🙂

April Favorites.

I’m sorry, but where the heck is this year going?! Before we know it, it’s going to be Memorial Day and then Summer, which I’m totally not complaining about, but this year is FUH-lying by.

Dancing for Donuts | April Favorites.

Even this weekend flew by (most likely because I did about a zillion things) but I’m doing my best to avoid catching the Sunday Scaries right now by writing this post and getting sh*t done so I don’t have to worry about it during the week.

As I’ve done the past couple of months, I wanted to share with you some of my favorite product discoveries from April. I used to eat the same things pretty much everyday for years, but lately I’ve been trying more new-to-me foods and it’s actually become really fun. I might be crazy here, but grocery shopping is probably one of my favorite errands to run during the week…who’s with me?! 🙂

Dancing for Donuts | April Favorites.

Banza Chickpea Pasta – Guysssssss this stuff is a GAME. CHANGER. I’m not gluten-free by any means, but I’m all about healthier versions of comfort food. This pasta is so delicious and doesn’t have that like, weird mushy consistency of brown rice or quinoa pasta. It’s actually a little bit nutty, too, which I think is so much more flavorful than plain white pasts, anyway! I’m partial to whole wheat in general, but I think chickpea pasta might take the cake. I paired mine with roasted veggies (like cauliflower and brussels sprouts) and some goat cheese for creaminess. DE-LISH.

Dancing for Donuts | April Favorites.

Go Raw Sprouted Watermelon Seeds – To say these things are addicting would be a serious understatement. I actually got them with my friend Pam who wanted a healthy snack for the beach and neither of us had high hopes, but they were really, really good. I love that they’re rich in magnesium, zinc and protein but they’re not a nut (which means they have less fat!) and though they’re lightly salted in sea salt, they’re not too salty by any means. I can’t wait to pick these up again and try them in a salad (instead of shoveling them in by the handful until we reached the bottom of the bag…oops!).

Dancing for Donuts | April Favorites.

Trader Joe’s King Coconut Water – Okay okay, so coconut water isn’t actually the healthiest drink ever and is not superior to regular water by any means, but sue me if sometimes I need something with a little more flavor! I’ve been loving these little boxes of coconut water, that are only $1.19, after lunch or my workouts (which are, coincidentally, often at lunch). Though most coconut waters have a ton of sugar, this one only has 8 grams, but a ton of potassium. My advice? Serve it super chilled and add ice cubes – super refreshing on a hot day!

Dancing for Donuts | April Favorites.

Turkey Jerky – If this bag looks nearly empty to you, it’s because it absolutely was. That baby didn’t stand a chance and to be honest, I think I almost tossed the bag before I remembered to snap a photo. I know jerky gets a bad rap because it’s high in sodium, which is fair, but it’s also a high-protein snack that doesn’t have to be refrigerated. It’s also a much healthier choice than many other pre-packaged snacks, plus it’s convenient and delicious. Perfect for snacking on at the office or before a workout! Turkey is slightly healthier than beef too, so I chose this Country Archer variety in Honey Dijon. Currently putting this on my grocery list for next week as we speak…

That’s all for now, friends. Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

March Favorites.

Happy Friday, y’all!

It’s that time again when I want to share my favorite foodie finds with you! Here’s what I’ve been eating this month on repeat:

Dancing for Donuts | March Favorites.

Rx Bars (Mint Chocolate): I’m all about snacks that have a minimal number of ingredients in them because otherwise I try to eat as many whole, unprocessed foods as possible. These bars are so delicious and this mint chocolate flavor is even reminiscent of a thin mint. No guilt afterwards, though 🙂

FullSizeRender

Trader Joe’s Just Mango Slices: Okay these aren’t necessarily a new find for me, but I can honestly say I haven’t eaten these in about a year so I totally forgot how good they are. I think what I love about them most (aside from them not having any added sugar!) is that they keep well in the car. For this LA girl on-the-go, that’s a super important quality to have!

IMG_9037

Medjool Dates with Almond Butter: If you haven’t tried this flavor combo yet, what have you even been doing!? I’ve been having one date with almond butter first thing i the morning for a before I’m starving for breakfast, but still feel kind of hungry when I wake up. It’s the perfect treat for dessert or post-workout too, super creamy and slightly sweet. It feels decadent, but if you keep it down to one or two, this little bad boys are actually super good for you!

FullSizeRender-1

Sakara Life Detox Tea: Admittedly, I was given this tea in a swag bag from a food blogger event I attended this week, but I’m absolutely loving it. I don’t really buy into all the “detox” stuff, I mostly just like the flavors – red rooibos, lemongrass and rose. So light and delicious, and supposedly beneficial to the mind and body, too!

IMG_8750

Amazing Grass Protein Superfood Bar: Yes, I know, another bar. So sue me, I like having snacks that don’t require a lot of thought or time on mine part! My favorite thing about these is that they’re packed with good-for-you ingredients. So many bars out there these days have a ton of sh*t in them and we don’t even realize it. These bars legit have spirulina, wheatgrass, broccoli, alfafa, and spinach in them. How crazy is that?! AND they taste good. Who even know that was possible.

Hope you have an incredible weekend! 🙂

February Favorites.

Can you believe it’s already March?! This month has flown by, but I’ve tried so many yummy new products that I wanted to share some of my favorites with you!

Dancing for Donuts | February Favorites.

I got a hugh jass haul from Vitamin World this month and I’m obsessed with everything. I ordered from them on Black Friday too, they have crazy good sales and everything a health & fitness fanatic could want.

Dancing for Donuts | February Favorites.

These new Quest Beyond Cereal bars are so dang good and only 110 calories. They’re still packed with protein though, and low in sugar, which makes them the perfect afternoon or post-workout snack. I love all the flavors, but this chocolate one might take the cake.

Dancing for Donuts | February Favorites.

I’ve been a fan of Garden of Life for awhile now, but hadn’t tried their new, super clean Sport Line. This chocolate plant-based protein powders is one the best ones I’ve had that legitimately tastes good on its own with just almond or coconut milk. Most plant-based proteins taste kind of chalky, but I assure you this one will make you think you’re drinking a milkshake!

Dancing for Donuts | February Favorites.

A friend told me this brand was on Shark Tank, which I’ve never seen, but the products from Nuts ‘N More are SO good. I’m addicted to their peanut powders (regular + maple), which I add to everything from my greek yogurt to smoothies to oatmeal, and now I’m addicted to their protein spreads, as well. They taste so unbelievably decadent, but they actually have less fat that regular peanut butter. How do people make this stuff?!

Dancing for Donuts | February Favorites.

Aside from my Vitamin World haul, I’ve been lucky enough to try these new Himalania Dark Chocolate Goji Berries. I’ve recently become somewhat addicted to goji berries in general (they’re slightly sweet but not too much, and have an awesome chewy/crunchy texture!), but these are dusted in dark cocoa powder, as well. They’re the perfect after-dinner treat when you’re craving something sweet, and they’re pretty healthy for a dessert!

IMG_8028.jpg

Last but not least, these Bonk Breaker bars are delicious!!! I’m an avid bar-eater (it’s almost sad how much money I spend on them to be honest), but these come in so many interesting flavors and have a ton of protein for not a ton of calories. Usually I find new bar companies to have one or two good flavors, but I rarely love the whole line. I honestly can’t pick a favorite one of these, but I will say the salted caramel tasted unbelievably decadent and the mint chocolate chip was like a thin mint but better.

Alright y’all that’s it for now. I’m about to hop on a plane to Colorado so I’ll chat with you from there 🙂

Maple & Brown Sugar Cinnamon Roasted Chickpeas.

I know I’m 5 days late, but Happy New Year!!!!!!!

I know everyone’s on that “new year, new me” kick, so I’m going to start 2017 off with a healthy snack recipe for y’all.

Dancing for Donuts | Maple Brown Sugar Cinnamon Roasted Chickpeas

If you know me at all, you know I’m all about the snacks. I will literally plan out my snacks the night before work just to make sure I don’t go too hungry in between meals and before my after-work trip to the gym. I swear it prevents me from reaching for that less-than-satisfying bag of chips or cheez-its, and then over-eating at night when I’m absolutely famished. One of my all-time favorite snacks is roasted chickpeas because they’re crunchy and super flavorful, but also packed with protein and fiber. If you’re someone who likes to constantly reach into a bag and keep eating (*raises hand*), then you’ll want to whip these bad boys up asap.

Dancing for Donuts | Maple Brown Sugar Cinnamon Roasted Chickpeas

I’ve already shared with you my favorite Sriracha Roasted Chickpeas, which are an old favorite, but I wanted to spruce my snack up for the holidays. This version is slightly sweeter, without being overwhelming, and has the warm comforting spices of cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg. I highly recommend buying dried garbanzos, particularly because you get far more in a bag so they end up being cheaper, lighter to carry, and there’s less waste! You just have to remember to soak them overnight and boil them for about 30 minutes or so and then they’re good to go. This makes it way easier to make an enormous batch of roasted chickpeas too, so that they actually last more than one sitting 😉

Dancing for Donuts | Maple Brown Sugar Cinnamon Roasted Chickpeas

Maple & Brown Sugar Cinnamon Roasted Chickpeas

1 cup dried garbanzos, soaked & boiled until soft

1 tbsp olive oil

1 tbsp brown sugar

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tbsp maple syrup

1/8 tsp ginger

1/8 tsp nutmeg

1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees fahrenheit. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the chickpeas out in an even layer.

2. Bake for 30 minutes total, pausing 15 minutes in to shake the chickpeas so they get crispy on all sides.

3. In a large bowl, mix the olive oil, brown sugar and spices. When the chickpeas have baked for 30 minutes, toss them in the bowl with the spices and mix until fully coated.

4. Bake for another 15 minutes, then remove and let cool. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days (but I promise they won’t last that long 😉

Be back tomorrow with the usual Friday Finds 🙂

December Favorites.

Hello!! I hope everyone had a very merry Chrismukkah! I know we sure did – super low key and full of delicious food with family. Just the way I like it 🙂

I’m back with a quick round-up of some of my favorite products from this month. Let me know if you’ve found any awesome new snacks recently, I’m always looking to switch it up!

Dancing for Donuts | December Favorites.

Lenny & Larry’s Complete Cookies – Guys. I’m obsessed with these. I ordered 2 boxes of them on Black Friday and was holding out until the new year to dig in…I can’t WAIT. My favorite flavor is probably the peanut butter, but the chocolate chip and snickerdoodle are awesome, too! A must – microwave them for 10-15 seconds. They’ll taste freshly baked.

peanut-powder

Powdered Peanut Butter – Admittedly, I’m not super brand loyal on this one, primarily because I’m curious what they all taste like, but I’ve been addicted to adding this stuff to my oatmeal and plain greek yogurt. It’s got that yummy nut butter taste and protein, but way less calories and fat. Toss it in a smoothie for some extra flavor, too!

Dancing for Donuts | December Favorites.

Trader Joe’s Chocolate Mint Black Tea & Candy Cane Green Tea – This is one of the aforementioned seasonal treats, sadly. But! If you can get your hands on a couple of these babies before TJ’s gets rid of them, DO IT. You can thank me later. The Chocolate Mint is unreal and tastes like a peppermint patty, especially with a splash of milk and some stevia. I think it’s new this year, but the Candy Cane I’ve been getting for the past few years. It’s my favorite. Again, splash of milk and touch of sweetness and you’ll think you’re having an actual candy cane…not to mention it’s decaf, so it makes for the perfect cup of tea before bed!

Iced Gingerbread Clif Bars – So I know Clif Bars sometimes get a bad rap for being super dense and kind of brick-like, but I will say that I absolutely love these when I need a heftier snack. My dad’s been bringing them with us when we go skiing for years because they’re great for longer workouts. The Gingerbread flavor was surprisingly tasty, too. I’ll be buying these again soon!

David Rio Chai Mix – For a last-minute impulse purchase at World Market, and just in general really, this stuff is awesome. You put 2 tablespoons in hot water and boom! Just as good as a Starbucks latte without the price tag and added sugar. Like the TJ’s tea, it’s also decaf and I’m pretty sure it’s only 60 calories (without the milk, which I highly recommend adding. I usually do about 20% milk, 80% hot water). If you’re at all like me and addicted to hot cocoa, you’ll love this mix when you need to switch it up!

Have a great week, y’all. Can’t believe it’ll be 2017 in just a few days!
