Another Incredible Trip to OBX, North Carolina (Photo Diary)

Well, I can’t say I was ready to leave the east coast after a pretty incredible 16 day trip, but I suppose it feels good to be back home.

In case you’re new around here, I’m originally from New York and my family has vacationed to the Outer Banks for (almost) my whole life! My parents have a home down there that they rent out, but they’re actually putting it on the market very soon. This summer was potentially my last time being at that house while it’s still ours…😳

And as sad as that is, boy am I happy I was able to spend a solid two weeks down there! As I mentioned in my last Friday Finds, we had a super fun first week with my brother, sister in law, a bunch of their friends and mine, plus our parents! But, Hurricane Dorian decided to come and keep things interested – the entire island was supposed to evacuate, but we decided to stay and wait it out since we were in one of the most northern towns in OBX! It rained a TON and was very windy, but it was also kind of fun and we didn’t even lose power. We hung out together, watched TV and did a puzzle!

During our second week, I picked up my boyfriend, and his brother & brother’s gf (who I love!!) also came down mid-week. We all had to work most of the day, but we’re still able to sneak away for a couple hours of beach time.

Ovi was in LOVE with the Outer Banks and our home there – he ran and ran on the beach and in our yard and had all the attention from our visitors!

We ate bagels from Lighthouse Bagels

And donuts from (the one of the original) Duck Donuts

Plus Sangria (recipe-ish here)

And ice cream from Big Buck’s – pb chocolate fudge for me!

We made sure to watch the sunsets each night, which just got prettier and prettier…

Drank pistachio coconut lattés from our favorite coffee shop Duck’s Cottage while shopping…

And soaked up the sun.

I’ll keep it short and sweet today (partly for you, I know Mondays are busy, and partly for me because this year feels extra sad😔). I’m going to be spending the day diving back into work, full force, running errands, going back to the spine doctor, and heading to a yoga event this evening.

I hope you had the best weekend & here’s to a new week, no matter where we are in the world💗

An Update From NC + Friday Finds!

Hi from North Carolina, where we are potentially in the line of fire for Hurricane Dorian😅

I’ve been a lil MIA because last week, I flew with my from LA –> NYC and then drove down to NC on Friday, when we somehow got the dates confused and realized our beach house was actually rented until SATURDAY…so we all had to stay in a hotel which wasn’t dog friendly but Ovi isn’t very sneaky because he barks at everything.

The two of us “slept” in my car in the parking lot and finally settled in on Saturday for a wonderful Labor Day Weekend, and that’s the gist of it! Always an adventure😂

Other than that, things have been a bit of a cluster fk because I signed on quite a bit of new work and was thrown into that fire. To say I was stressed would be the understatement of a century, but luckily I’m in my favorite place in the whole world and look out my window at the ocean if I need to be instantly calmed!

It’s crazy to think we’ve already been here almost a week, but we’ve had so much fun and Ovi LOVES it here. He’s such a beach boy and was starting to go into the ocean before they shut the beach for the hurricane!

We’ve been eating all kinds of yummy things (my brother and his friends love to cook!) like a shrimp boil/bake, bbq, and bagels – my FAVE. I’m so looking forward to when my bf gets here on Saturday, I’m just crossing my fingers that his flight isn’t delayed or that we can’t get over the bridge to the mainland because of flooding!

Anyway, I hope you all had an amazing LDW and short work week! Figured I’d share just a few of my fave links before I go:

A Cheap & Delicious Miracle One Pan Meal – Why yes, I WILL be making this the week I get home from vacation🙌🏻

Cashew Coconut Oat Milk – ALERT THE MASSES. This sounds insane!

How to Fall Asleep Anywhere in 5 Minutes – Before I had severe back pain that made it impossible to sleep past 5am and I was exhausted by 9pm each day, I had pretty major sleeping issues😅 A sleep mask seriously changed my life (even though I thought I could NEVER sleep with one) and as for the rest? Definitely going to try those next time I’m strugglin’!

6-Ingredient Paleo Banana Blueberry Muffins – Seriously surprised by this ingredients list! Would love to make a version with pumpkin for fall😍

Enjoy your weekend and I’ll be back again soon!!

Hitting the Re-set Button in the Outer Banks + Autumn Goals

Hi friends!

Dancing for Donuts | Hitting the Re-set Button in the Outer Banks + Autumn Goals

The past 10 or so days have been an absolute whirlwind! There was a ton of celebrating (my birthday, seeing family again, and a wedding) and I had an absolute blast.I made it to the Outer Banks in NC on September 1st, aka my favorite place on the planet, and got to enjoy the next week soaking up some much-needed time with family. In between moments of fun were plenty of relaxation on the beach and a bit of work, too. Oh, and I ate like a friggin’ QUEEN. Here’s some proof:

My favorite ice cream from Big Buck’s – peanut butter cups and fudge on the bottom, coffee cookie on top! 2 scoops because #yolo.

The most incredible and doughy bagel with pastrami smoked salmon & veggie cream cheese – I kid you not when I say I had 4 bagels in 6 days. What can I say, we just don’t have good ones back in LA!

Homemade crab cake benedict with hollandaise sauce – I can’t take credit for this one, my dad & bf were some very impressive chefs!

And Frozen grapes by the pool because literally nothing is better on a hot day!

There was also some blogging involved (did you catch my recipe for nutty whole grain chocolate chip cookies?!) and therefore eating of the props, as well…and I taught my boyfriend how to take photos on my fancy camera! I’d say he got pretty into it 😉

We also caught the gorgeous sunsets that are characteristic to the island and one of the things I love so, so much about my annual trip there. What is it about rainbow skies that makes us feel happy and grateful and humbled?!

…And the love my parents have for each other? That’s another thing that makes me feel happy & grateful 🙂 I know this picture is kind blurry, but it instantly makes me smile. These two have been married for 37 years, how incredible is that?!

One thing that was extra special about this year was that my boyfriend was able to join me. It was pretty wonderful getting to share my favorite place with my favorite person. It just makes me love it even more 🙂

And then we rounded out our amazing week with a wedding for one of his friends in Minneapolis, a city I’d never been to before. As exhausted as I was, it was so much fun. I also really liked the city from what I could tell, it’s very clean! I’d love to go back someday.

Now that I’m back, a part of me feels a bit sad that I don’t have this trip to look forward to anymore. I know that’s kind of silly since I had such an incredible trip, but I get so completely blissed out while I’m there that the week just flies by. This trip also always coincides with my birthday (and the start of a new school year), which makes it feel like both an end to the previous year and a kickoff for the one ahead. I like to take advantage of the down time I have while I’m there to check in with myself, re-evaluate my goals, choices, and general path in life. And I guess as much of a bummer it is that it’s over, I without fail always come back with a new perspective. I have so many goals for my 28th year, but here are just a few top-line ones!

Autumn Goals

-Try one new fall recipe each week

-Get back into a fitness routine and aim to workout 6 days a week (I need a serious re-set after all the celebration and vacation this past month!)

-Start bullet-journaling

-Blog 2-3x each (something I’m generally already doing, but want to be more consistent about)

-Carry my DSLR camera  + fancy lens everywhere and take more photos!

-Map out my blog goals both short and long-term, and how I will achieve them

-Spend more time outside (I know this one sounds counter-intuitive because the weather will be cooler, but I’d much prefer the cold over the heat from the summer!)

-Give my beauty routine a re-fresh and upgrade, it is MUCH needed!

Do you make seasonal goals, too? What are you focusing on as we head into fall?
