5 Things You Can Do Tonight for a Healthier, More Productive Tomorrow

Hey y’all! I’m currently freaking out over the fact that Thanksgiving (and my trip home!) is THIS week. So. Freakin’. PUMPED.

Dancing for Donuts | Healthy Night Routine

As you know, I recently moved in with the boy to a new apartment that I am absolutely loving. To me, moving into a new home means more than just having a new place to sleep. I’d like to think of it as almost a fresh start, a good time to set goals, and create new routines. Since I won’t be going from place to place each night anymore (not that I did that every single night, but you feel me), it’s been so much easier to get into a healthy morning and evening routine. I sort of had one already, but it’s been so wonderful being able to implement my old routine with some new elements on a more regular basis.

I think having an evening routine not only helps minimize things like the Sunday Scaries (which may happen on any given day of the week, let’s be real), or frantic mornings that result in forgetting a packed lunch or gym sneakers at home once you’ve already left for the day. I know I’ve definitely had days like that, but I want to give you some ideas so that you and I both can help prevent them, and in case you’re feeling like you need to get your sh*t together. *raises hand*

DSC_4708 (1)

So here’s a list of the things I like to do each night (or as much as possible) that help me de-stress, sleep a little better, and head into the next day feeling more confident.

1. Make a to-do list for tomorrow – Okay y’all, this tip is #1 because it is my number one. Every single night I write down in my planner my schedule for the next day and anything I need to remember to do. This helps eliminate that late night panic that sets in when you think about all the things you need to do the next day but aren’t sure you’ll be able to do. If you’ve never felt this way, then I applaud you because man that is not a fun feeling. When you plan your day ahead of time, you can see that yes, you can in fact accomplish everything you need to and life is far more manageable than it seems when you’ve got eight thousand thoughts bouncing around in the darkness. It also makes it easy to not forget to a) pay your credit card bill or b) call your grandmother to wish her a happy birthday…just two examples of things that may slip your mind when you’re in the throes of a busy day.

2. Pack your bag for the next day – Whether it’s your gym bag, your backpack or your briefcase, get everything in there that you think you’ll need. Your plans can’t get derailed if you’re ready to go and it’s easier to space and forget your gym socks in the morning when you’re rushing than it is as night with a clear head. I like to make sure I’ve got my wallet ready (in case I took out my ID or any credit cards over the weekend to put in a clutch), my water bottle, a gym outfit, sneakers, and my laptop if I need it. I’ll also put any snacks in my purse that don’t need to be refrigerated, so that I don’t find myself hangry at the office in the afternoon and reaching for cheez-its that I don’t actually even like…know what I mean? Life is just so much easier when you can get up and get ready in the morning without running around like a crazy person.

3. Prep your breakfast & lunch – You’ve probably heard me say this before, but I’m a firm believer in packing a lunch every single day to save money and stay on track with my health goals. I don’t necessarily do a full meal-prep sesh on Sundays, but I do like to pack my lunch bag the night before so that it’s ready to grab and go before I head out the door. Usually I’ll mix some leftover from dinner with some veggies I’ve roasted, maybe a grain I’ve prepped like brown rice or quinoa, and a sauce like hummus. Additionally, since I now like to eat my breakfast at 9am when I get into the office, I may prep some overnight oats or a yogurt parfait the night before, too. I can assure that on days I don’t do my meal prep the night before, I most definitely find myself running late trying to put my tupperware together in the morning.

4. Pick your outfit – Okay have you ever been trying to fall asleep but can’t because you find yourself thinking of that absolute dumbest sh*t like what you’re going to wear the next day to work or school or dinner? Yep, guilty. It’s so frustrating because you literally just want to fall asleep but you’re thinking about something so silly, yet also essential. My remedy for this is simply to pick out your outfit either in your mind or physically lay it out on your dresser/in your closet before you even lay down to go to sleep. I know it seems like a quick no-brainer, but trust me, if you wake up in the morning and don’t know what the weather is or what you’re going to put on your body, you could waste 15 minutes staring at your clothes instead of getting on with your morning. Been. There.

5. Take a minute for yourself – This right here is a BIG one, my friends. I’m a firm believe in self-care because it’s really, really hard to pour from an empty cup. What I mean by that is if you spend all day working, and then maybe you go to the gym, or meet a friend for dinner, you haven’t actually had time to settle your mind. Have you ever gotten home from a dinner with friends at 10pm and even though you were exhausted before you met them, you’re too wired now to pass out? It’s because your brain is still going. Everyone has different ways they like to unwind, but some of mine include browsing Pinterest or watching one of my favorite tv shows with a cup of tea and a face mask on. Whatever you need to do for you, I think taking at least 15 minutes to do a mini re-set can be so valuable for heading into the next day with a rested mind and happy heart.

Dancing for Donuts | Healthy Night Routine

Okay enough about me, I want to know what your night routine is. Do you set your clothes out the night before or mini meal-prep, too? Let me know in the comments and have a wonderful rest of your week!

Friday Finds

Hey Babes! Another Friday is heeeeeere!

Dancing for Donuts | Friday Finds | Golden Milk Latte with Moon Deli Tonics

In one week at this time, I will be hanging with my family and getting some work done on our couch, possible by the fire. PUMPED. I’ve got a boat load of things to get done before that though, so it’d be smart to keep my excitement and daydreaming to a minimum until then…

In the meantime! My weekly roundup as per usj 🙂

Trader Joe’s Now has $3 Dairy-Free Whipped Cream – F. YES.

Peanut Sauce – Wait. I literally want to put this on everything.

5 Exercises to Do in the Morning That’ll Give You More Energy – I seriously miss working out in the mornings, but evening workouts just fit better with my schedule now. Maybe I should start doing these shorter videos before work…are you a morning workout person?

Healthy & Easy Thanksgiving Recipes – In case you still need ideas! Those pumpkin spiced corn muffins are kind of making me hungry again rn…

How to Bullet Journal with a Traditional Planner or Notebook – I can’t tell you how badly I needed this post. I’ve heard such amazing things about bullet-journaling, but really don’t need to order another book/notebook. Love that I can just use one I already have!

A Doctor Shares: The Best Snack for Gut Health – Not only does this recipe sound delish (and easy to make!), but there’s some really good advice in here!

If you’re celebrating a Friendsgiving or Thanksgiving early this weekend, have so much fun and don’t worry about the calories too much, okay? The gym will still be there tomorrow, I promise.

What’s on My Thanksgiving Menu

Hey y’all! Can you believe how quickly Thanksgiving (and all of the other holidays!) are sneaking up on us?!

I wanted to share with you what I’m planning on making this year since I’ve seen SO many epic recipes out there!! I’m hoping we have a balanced mix of veggies and healthy sides, but also indulgent comfort foods because hey, ’tis the season. Everything in moderation, right?😉

DSC_4620

Pumpkin Pie Crescent Rolls – I made these over a week ago and am still thinking about them, that’s how good they are!!! Doughy, buttery, and not overly sweet but SO delicious. They’d be the perfect mid-morning snack while everyone is busy cooking, or as a nice post-dinner treat! If you’d like, you can grab a coupon for $1 off your next purchase of Immaculate Baking Co. dough here! It’s seriously out of this world.

Dancing for Donuts | What's on My Thanksgiving Menu

Skinny Garlic Mashed Potatoes – If there’s one blog I consistently go back to for easy and delicious recipes, it’s Gina’s. Like HOW creamy do these look?! I can’t even deal.

DSC_0788

Shredded Brussels Sprouts Salad with Maple Dijon Vinaigrette – Like I said, I’m a big fan of mixing the heavy stuff with some greens, too! Besides, with all the heavy foods, I always find myself craving a salad of some kind. This recipe is an oldie of mine, but a goody nonetheless. I love the parmesan and pecans, but the dressing is the standout on this one for sure!

Dancing for Donuts | What's on My Thanksgiving Menu

Roasted Thanksgiving Turkey – Wanna hear something crazy? I used to HATE turkey. Like I would load up on sides but not actually eat the turkey…and I wasn’t a vegetarian. What was I thinking?! I think this recipe is a winner because it sounds pretty simple but super flavorful. Doesn’t it look amazing??

Screen Shot 2017-11-13 at 8.26.30 PM

Vanilla Bean Mashed Sweet Potatoes – Have I told you about my sweet potato obsession yet? Because I truly am addicted, just ask my boyfriend. I think this dish might be the one I’m most looking forward to because it adds just the right amount of sweetness to the Thanksgiving plate, you know? And I love that this recipe has the vanilla bean in it to spruce things up a bit. Plus sweet potatoes are heart healthy, guys. Totally okay to have a second helping… 🙂

Dancing for Donuts | What's on My Thanksgiving Menu

Simple + Easy Cranberry Sauce – Look. You can’t have turkey without cranberry sauce, that’s just a fact. I’m actually not much of a gravy person (so sue me) but cranberry sauce I go IN on. The Kitchn (one of the best cooking resources out there) breaks it down so that you literally cannot mess it up. So helpful!!

Screen Shot 2017-11-13 at 8.35.05 PM

Apple & Hazelnut Vegan Stuffing – So like, you obviously have to have the Pepperidge Farms boxed stuffing because DUH, but also let’s be a little gourmet here and make something classy. The flavors in this stuffing are legit screaminggggg fall to me and also it’s vegan so 1) great for anyone at the table with diet restrictions and also 2) hey let’s get some real nutrients in us, yeah?

Screen Shot 2017-11-13 at 8.19.49 PM

Chocolate Honey Pecan Pie – I’m not gonna lie to you, we will most likely have a pumpkin pie (in addition to our pumpkin pie crescent rolls of course!) but I think it’s nice to have some other flavors in the mix. Pecan pie is always a classic and crowd pleaser, but this chocolate-y twist is a fun variation. The ingredients in this recipe aren’t terrible either, so you can dig in without feeling like you’re over-indulging!

Now I wanna know – what’s on your Thanksgiving menu? Where will you be spending the holiday? With loved ones, I hope 🙂

What Confidence Has to Do With Living a Healthy Life [+ My Teeth Whitening Experience!]

I know, I know, the title of this post may be throwing you off a bit, but I promise it’ll make sense soon 🙂
Dancing for Donuts | What Confidence Has to Do With Living a Healthy Life [And My Teeth-Whitening Experience}
I think about 99% of the time, people immediately think food and fitness when they think about what the word “healthy” means, myself included. In the past year though, I’ve started to realize that health is also about the way you treat yourself and the words you say. It may be a little out there, but I honestly think there may even be a connection between being kind (again, to yourself but also to others) and your actual “health.” Does that make any sense? Like, let’s say every morning we looked in the mirror and thought “I hate my hair and my face is breaking out, I’m fat and this shirt looks terrible on me,” I don’t think we’d be setting ourselves up to be healthy (or happy) at all. We’d probably spend our day self-loathing, may choose to do something we don’t love because we’re too insecure to stand up for ourselves (been there!), potentially be rude to someone else because we’re in a bad mood, and maybe even force ourselves to go to the gym (because we hate the way our bodies look) or the opposite, shovel in a bunch of greasy food because we’re emotionally eating.
Dancing for Donuts | What Confidence Has to Do With Living a Healthy Life [And My Teeth-Whitening Experience}
Now let’s flip that around – say we started the day instead by looking in the same mirror, but this time we think, “I love my smile and my hair looks awesome today. This outfit is everything and today is going to kick a$$.” To me, that sounds like the PERFECT way to start a day and one that’s most likely to be filled with what makes us happy, that unfolds with us being good to ourselves and our bodies. Sure, we may go to the gym, but to celebrate our health this time. Maybe we’d even treat ourselves to our favorite foods because hell, but because we know we deserve them…is it starting to make sense now?
Dancing for Donuts | What Confidence Has to Do with Living a Healthy Life [ + My Teeth Whitening Experience!]
I used to work in entertainment, as an entertainer, so my self-confidence wasn’t exactly at an all-time high with people telling me NO six times a day for one reason or another (too tall, too curvy, not pretty enough, etc.). Now that I’m not in that world, I’m actually starting to love myself again, which feels pretty damn great. And let me tell you, I treat my body (and my heart/mind) with more kindness, too. One of the things that constantly bothered me back in those days was how yellow my teeth were because, let’s face it, homegirl generally needs two cups of coffee a day. I seriously used to hate smiling with my teeth, which I needed to do alllll the time for headshots and auditions. Even after I stopped doing those things, I was so used to be self-conscious about my smile that I kind of just continued to feel weird about it in the back of my mind.
Dancing for Donuts | What Confidence Has to Do With Living a Healthy Life [And My Teeth-Whitening Experience}
An easy fix for this was teeth whitening obviously, but we all know this blog is for #BabesOnABudget, aka this coffee-obsessed millenial has neither the funds nor the loose purse strings to splurge for a teeth cleaning in a dentist’s office! The good news? I was recently able to whiten my teeth, at home, for waaaaaaay less thanks to Smile Brilliant. Their at-home teeth whitening kits could not be easier – you create the mold yourself (which is, by the way, dummy proof), send it back, receive your custom trays, and do your thing with their super easy applicators. For the last couple of months, I’ve been whitening my teeth before bed while watching This Is Us and browsing Pinterest, often with a face mask on…And now? I can drink (and eat) what I want without feeling like I need to hide my smile. So believe me when I tell you that this process could not be easier, and it WORKS. So much so that I’ve actually started drinking my coffee with a Koffie Straw to keep them white because I’ve been feeling so much better about smiling when meeting new people or taking photos. Good thing Smile Brilliant gives you plenty of whitening and de-sensitizing gel so that you can do routine touch-ups whenever you feel necessary!
Dancing for Donuts | What Confidence Has to Do With Living a Healthy Life [And My Teeth-Whitening Experience}
One more thing I want to note is how incredible their customer service is. First of all, the entire process from the moment you receive your package, to creating your molds and then getting your custom trays is super speedy, and you’re updated every step of the way. Second of all, if you have any questions, or are experiencing sensitivity (enter their amazing de-sensitizing gel!), they are more than happy to help guide you. I always appreciate a company that legitimately cares about its customers! So, if you’d like to start feeling more confident, aka starting your day off with that second scenario where you smile in the mirror thinking “DAMN I look good,” I highly recommend a kit from Smile Brilliant. Do something for yourself, take care of your body, your heart, your mind, whatever it is you may need to live your healthy and happy life.
Dancing for Donuts | What Confidence Has to Do With Living a Healthy Life [And My Teeth-Whitening Experience}
If you’d like, you can enter to win your very own Smile Brilliant teeth whitening kit here, since they’ve been kind enough to offer a kit to one of my readers! I know we all love coupons too though, so you can get 10% off your kit with code dancingfordonuts10 🙂
Now I wanna know: have you overcome any insecurities from your past? How did you shift your mindset?

Daylight savings is really screwing with me, guys. I’ve been more tired than ever, which doesn’t make sense since I’ve been going to sleep earlier? Did the one hour change mess up anyone else’s body clock? Oof.

Easiest Pumpkin Pie Crescent Rolls [for an Immaculate Thanksgiving!]

This post is sponsored by my friends over at Immaculate Baking Co, but the content and opinions expressed here are my own, as always!

Dancing for Donuts | Easiest Pumpkin Pie Crescent Rolls for an Immaculate Thanksgiving

At first I thought it was crazy to even be thinking about anything having to do with Thanksgiving, but like…it’s in 2 weeks guys.

For the first time in SIX years, I’ll be heading home for Thanksgiving and I seriously cannot WAIT. One of my favorite things in the entire world is cooking/baking with my mom, but since we don’t get to do it very often anymore, we literally start planning our menu weeks (and sometimes months…) in advance. I usually test out a few recipes before my trips home and pick the one or two I really love so that I can make them for my family. And, as much as I hate to toot my own horn, these crescent rolls are kiiiiind of out of control.

And by kind of, I mean they are melt-in-your-mouth, “give me a 2nd one stat”, make your kitchen smell amaaaazing, out of control.

(For $1 off your next purchase of Immaculate Baking Co. products, head here!)

Dancing for Donuts | Easiest Pumpkin Pie Crescent Rolls for an Immaculate Thanksgiving

If you’re really looking for the convenience factor this holiday season (and let’s face it, who isn’t?!) you seriously need to pick up some of Immaculate Baking Co’s cookie dough, crescent roll dough or pie crust because they make it so stinkin’ easy, guys. They even have gluten-free cookie dough, so when I’m home and need to bake for my gluten-free (almost)sister-in-law, my stress levels will be at an all-time low. We’re talkin’ basically zero which is RARE when it comes to holiday baking, #amiright?

Dancing for Donuts | Easiest Pumpkin Pie Crescent Rolls for an Immaculate Thanksgiving

Made with the Immaculate Baking Co organic crescent roll dough, these pumpkin-pie rolls come together in just a few minutes and all things considered, aren’t all that bad for you! I love that the dough is organic because certain family members of mine really value eating organic foods, and in comparison to other crescent roll doughs I’ve tried, these are super soft and ever-so-slightly sweet. Paired with organic cream cheese, canned pumpkin, and coconut sugar, these make the perfect treat for breakfast, a mid-afternoon snack, or post-dinner sweet. If you have a ton of guests, or just want extras for seconds, this recipe is also really easy to double or even triple!

Dancing for Donuts | Easiest Pumpkin Pie Crescent Rolls for an Immaculate Thanksgiving

Easiest Pumpkin-Pie Crescent Rolls

1 tube of Immaculate Baking Organic Crescent Roll Dough (makes 8)

2 oz. organic cream cheese (can be low-fat if you really want, but also #treatyoself)

1/2 cup organic canned pumpkin – not pumpkin pie mix!

7 tbsp coconut sugar – 4 for the filling, 3 for the topping

1 tbsp cinnamon (+ 1 tsp for the topping)

1 tbsp pumpkin pie mix (+1 tsp for the topping)

1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees fahrenheit. Roll the crescent roll dough onto an un-greased baking sheet covered in parchment (if you have it!) and separate the triangles.

2. In a medium sized bowl, beat together the cream cheese, pumpkin, 4 tbsp of coconut sugar, and spices until creamy. Spoon one tbsp of filling onto each triangle of dough and spread into an even layer in the middle.

3. Roll the triangles up from the wider end to the skinnier end. Don’t be afraid if some of the filling seeps out, it’s all good!

4. In a small bowl, combine the remaining spices and coconut sugar. Using a tablespoon, carefully shake the topping mix onto each roll (about 1/2 tablespoon of coating for each).

5. Pop ’em in the oven for 15 minutes then remove and let cool for 5 minutes. Enjoy immediately, or store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 day. *I’d reheat them for 10 seconds or so in the microwave if they’ve been chilled!

Dancing for Donuts | Easiest Pumpkin Pie Crescent Rolls for an Immaculate Thanksgiving

I hope y’all get to make these soon! I honestly may make them again this weekend because they were a major crowd pleaser when I made them the first-time. For $1 off your next purchase of Immaculate Baking Co. products, head here! They have a store locator on their page too, so it makes it easy to track them down. I got mine at Sprouts (aka my favorite grocery store of all time).

That’s all for today friends, have a great rest of your week!!

Chunky Monkey Protein Donuts

Hello and Happy Humpday!

Dancing for Donuts | Chunky Monkey Protein Donuts made with Rootz Nutrition Paleo Superfood Protein - use code DANCINGFORDONUTS for 10% off!

As someone who used to have a non-traditional job for 5 years, it’s still weird for me sometimes to think of weeks as Monday through Friday, and weekends as actual weekends… but anywho, where I’m going with this is that sometimes you need a lil somethin’ somethin’ to spruce up a weekday since counting down the minutes until the weekend is no way to live, y’all.

I made these donuts last Sunday when I had some extra time to myself, and having them as a mid-week treat has seriously brightened up an otherwise fairly boring day. I’m also not one of those people who like, waits until Sunday to treat themselves (food wise), because screw that, I deserve to treat myself whenever I want to and SO DO YOU. That being said, these donuts are the perfect sweet treat when you don’t want to completely derail your diet since they’re full of protein and have clean ingredients, save for the chocolate chips, which are optional if you’re boring…or just don’t like chocolate 🙂

Dancing for Donuts | Chunky Monkey Protein Donuts made with Rootz Nutrition Paleo Superfood Protein - use code DANCINGFORDONUTS for 10% off!

I recently got my hands some of the Rootz Nutrition paleo protein superfood in Chocolate Banana Nut and I can confidently say that I have upped my smoothie game. I’ve mentioned this in the past, but I absolutely hate when protein powders have a chalk-like taste (as does everyone, I’m sure), but when I find a protein powder that actually tastes incredible, I obviously have to share it with you. I also don’t think I’ve heard of a single protein powder in this flavor, so that’s a win for sure.

Dancing for Donuts | Chunky Monkey Protein Donuts made with Rootz Nutrition Paleo Superfood Protein - use code DANCINGFORDONUTS for 10% off!

Besides taste though, I love that the Rootz products are paleo-friendly so even though I’m not actually paleo (because #labelfree), the ingredients are crazy clean. This particular powder also contains completely undetectable greens like chlorella, spirulina, kale, broccoli and spinach. Now I don’t know about you, but I can guarantee I don’t actually eat all of those veggies on any given day, so the fact that I can throw them in my food in a delicious chocolate-y way is kind of amazing. *If you want 10% off at Rootz, there’s a coupon code at the bottom of this post 😉

Since this stuff has so many awesome benefits, I’ve been trying to find new ways to incorporate it into my diet because as much as I would love to have smoothies for breakfast, lunch and dinner, that’s probably not actually the most nutritious option. After browsing Pinterest for allllll the donut recipes, I kind of mushed some of them together to come up with this one. I’ll be honest, I did a pretty good job guys. These have the perfect amount of sweetness, stay moist for days when you keep them in the fridge, and are just the right size for when you want a little treat. Plus, they’re DONUTS which makes them feel extra special, y’know?

Dancing for Donuts | Chunky Monkey Protein Donuts made with Rootz Nutrition Paleo Superfood Protein - use code DANCINGFORDONUTS for 10% off!

Chunky Monkey Protein Donuts

1 egg

1/4 cup peanut or almond butter

1 large ripe banana

2 1/2 tbsp melted coconut oil

3 tbsp coconut flour

2 tbsp Rootz Nutrition Paleo Chocolate Banana Nut Protein (or any protein powder)

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

pinch of cinnamon

1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (optional)

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit and coat the bottom of a donut tin (mini or regular) with coconut oil.

2. In a large bowl, mash the banana and stir in the nut butter, melted coconut oil and egg until completely combined and mostly smooth. *You can put the ingredients in a blender if you’d prefer, but sometimes I like not having to do the extra dishes!

3. Add the coconut flour, protein powder, baking powder, vanilla and cinnamon, and stir until well-combined, but careful to not overmix! If you’d like, you can fold in the chocolate chips here, or use them later as a drizzle on top like I did.

4. Using a spoon (and a wet finger), fill each donut cavity about halfway with batter. I like to fill mine just slightly over half so they’re a bit bigger 😉 Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until dough is firm.

5. Let donuts cool for at least 10 minutes before removing from the pan. You’ll want to run a spoon along the edges to make sure the donut hasn’t stuck to the pan, then carefully spoon each donut onto a plate or wire rack to finish cooling.

6. If you’d like, you can melt the chocolate chips in a bowl with a touch of coconut oil (I’d heat them for about 20 seconds at a time), and then drizzle the melted chocolate over the donuts once completely cooled. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days and pop in the microwave for 15 seconds before eating!

Friday Finds

Hi friends! How’s everyone doing today?

Dancing for Donuts | Friday Finds.

I fled LA for the weekend and am currently in the Palm Springs area for some R&R. We found a good deal and the next few weeks are going to be a bit hectic, so we figured why not! You only live once, right?! 🙂

Here’s what I’ve been reading this week:

7 Healthy Dinner Ideas for When You’re Broke & Just Can’t – We all know I’m really just a broke college student at heart.

How to Love Veggies – Because sometimes the salad thing gets old, y’know?

8 Habits that are Keeping You from Saving – Beyond guilty of #8 (and some others…oops).

A Beginner’s Guide to Seasonal Eating – So much prettier, and healthier, and cheaper. Win-win, y’all.

3 Mantras to Live By (For More Happiness + Peace) – I think we all could use these right now.

Turkey Chili Stuffed Acorn Squash – Stop. It. Now. I need this asap, preferably by a fire and possibly under a blanket (although not in this desert heat, obvs).

Hope you have some time to hit the re-set button this weekend too, no matter where you are!
