Weekend Recap (Fun Fitness Events!) + July Favorites

So, I think this is like, the first time in years I’ve done a weekend recap for you guys…right?

Dancing for Donuts | Weekend Recap + July Foodie Favorites

I know it seems random, especially considering I wasn’t traveling or anything, but I did attend a few fun fitness events that I thought I’d share with you! And since it’s the end of the month, I bundled that with my fitness & foodie favorites from July…which I still cannot believe is nearly over🙀

Dancing for Donuts | Weekend Recap + July Foodie Favorites

I guess that means I was busy…which is quite possibly the understatement of the century considering these past few weekends have been jam packed (with lots of fun stuff, and a bit of work, too). This past Saturday I met my friend Emily at a launch event for Katie Austin‘s new activewear line, Austin Active. Some of you may know Denise Austin, Katie’s mom, who was a huge fitness personality in the 80’s and 90’s I think, but Katie is SO sweet and I’ve been following her on YouTube for awhile now.

She just launched a line of super cute workout clothes (I splurged for a set…I had to!!!) and to celebrate, she taught a free fitness class in Downtown LA at the most beautiful studio space. There was food and juice from Beaming (best chocolate chip cookies ever, you guys), makeup samples from Smashbox, Babe Rosé, and even a braid bar…although I didn’t opt to get my hair done this time!

Dancing for Donuts | Weekend Recap + July Foodie Favorites

On Sunday, my friend Keely was teaching her class from ModelFit (aka my favorite class EVER – not kidding, it kicks my butt in the most fun way possible and Keely is the BEST teacher), so I went with a couple friends! The W Hotel here in Westwood is actually doing free fitness classes every Sunday at 9am on their WET deck by the pool (the most gorgeous setting) until the end of September, so if you’re in the LA area, I totally recommend going! Keely is actually teaching again this coming weekend, but there are a ton of other cool classes like boxing and yoga, too! I’m alllll about the free events here, and going with friends makes it 10x more fun😊

Dancing for Donuts | Weekend Recap + July Foodie Favorites

p.s. how stinkin’ cute is this gif ^ …like i’m sorry but we nailed it💁🏻

Okay NOW onto July favorites!!!

Dancing for Donuts | Weekend Recap + July Foodie Favorites

Smoked Salmon + Avo Toast – This combo is kind of all I want forever. I splurged on smoked salmon a couple times so far this summer and let me tell you, it is worth every👏🏼damn👏🏼penny👏🏼. I’ve always loved some good lox and schmear on a bagel, but with avocado instead of the cream cheese and a squeeze of lemon on top? Ooohhh baby we are in BUSINESS.

Dancing for Donuts | Weekend Recap + July Foodie Favorites

AshaPops – So these are probably the coolest thing I tried all month…they’re popped LOTUS seeds!!! Have you guys ever heard of that?! This company (which is run by THE sweetest woman and her son) reached out to me and asked me if I’d like to try these a few weeks ago and since I’d never heard of anything like them, I immediately said yes! Turns out they’re insanely delicious and pack quite a nutritious punch. I don’t know if you can read the front label up there, but AshaPops are low in calories, high in magnesium and protein, and extremely allergen-free (vegan, gluten free, soy free, etc.). My boyfriend and I finished off this chocolate bag in about 10 minutes sitting in traffic, but their other flavors like cinnamon and turmeric, are amazing, too!

Dancing for Donuts | Weekend Recap + July Foodie Favorites

Beekeeper’s Naturals Bee Pollen – I have been lovingggg adding this stuff to my smoothies lately, mostly because of the crunch, but also because bee pollen is SO good for you. BKN is such an incredible brand anyway, so I know all of their products are high quality, but their bee pollen in particular contains a ton of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and protein. It also tastes kind of nutty/earthy, which I’m sure is also good on oats and yogurt!

Dancing for Donuts | Weekend Recap + July Foodie Favorites

NüFlo Shoes – Okay HOW cool are these?! I wore these Nüflo shoesies (is that a word I’m allowed to use in my late 20’s?) to pilates last week and they were amazing. There are grips on the bottom which make sure you don’t slip and slide on the Megaformer, but I know they’d also be great for regular or hot yoga, too. Speaking of, I haven’t been back to Y7 since before my broken elbow, so I’ll have to try them out there very soon!! Also they come in other colors or just black too, if that’s more your style😊

Dancing for Donuts | Weekend Recap + July Foodie Favorites

Miyokos Smoked Farmhouse Vegan Cheese – I first tried this cheese at the Vegan Food Festival here in LA earlier this summer and I was absolutely blown away. If you like smoked gouda, you will LOVE Miyokos Smoked Vegan Cheese. It’s insane. And it’s vegan…which again, is not necessarily something I choose to be at all times, but I do try to eat less dairy for my skin/digestion and being able to eat something like this on a cracker is a serious game changer! It is a little pricey, but I’ve heard Trader Joe’s carries it for slightly cheaper!

Year of Yes – So full disclosure, I’m not actually finished with this book just yet, but I’m pretty close. I’ve recommended it to every single person I’ve talked books with since i’ve opened it up and I’ve been raving about it to everyone because Shonda Rhimes is a freakin’ GENIUS. Aside from being positive and real and authentic and awesome, which is all the things I want to read about, this book is just straight up hilarious. I literally laughed out loud by myself while reading it on the beach, and that’s a rarity so you KNOW it’s good. If you’re already a Shonda fan, I’d recommend picking this up immediately, but even if you aren’t, this woman is my idol. Such a good beach read!

Dancing for Donuts | Weekend Recap + July Foodie Favorites

Amazing Grass Protein Superfood in Chocolate Peanut Butter – If this protein powder blended up with a little frozen banana and almond milk were all I’d get to eat for breakfast for the rest of time, I think I’d be okay with that. This protein powder is hands down the BEST protein I’ve ever had. It’s vegan, has two full servings of fruits and veggies per serving, and contains alfalfa, spirulina, chlorella and açai…none of which you actually taste because the pb & chocolate takes over in the best way possible. I’ve been taking half a scoop (they’re biiiig scoops!), adding a couple frozen strawberries with a 1/2 frozen banana and a handful of spinach, and blending it up every single morning these days. I’m obsessed with this stuff!!

OMFG okay did you get to the end of this post?!?! I think this is the longest thing I’ve ever written, I’m so sorry for blabbing😅 If you made it, thank you and if not, I appreciate the effort.

Love you all and have an amazing rest of your week!!!

What’s in My Purse: Summer Edition!

It’s humpday y’all and I’m comin’ atcha with something a little different today!

Dancing for Donuts | What's in My Purse: Summer Edition

I’ve been wanting to weave in more lifestyle content in general on here (I hope that’s okay with you!) and I thought it would be fun to share a little bit about what’s in my bag on a daily basis. I feel like the items people carry around with them everywhere say quite a bit about who they are and what’s important to them, while also shedding a bit of light into their day to day!

So here’s what I’ve been keeping on hand at all times this summer…

Planner + Pencil – When I tell you that I write everything down in my planner, I mean I write everythingggggg. Everything! From my meals to my work tasks to plans with friends to blogging calendars, my planner keeps me sane. People ask me how I juggle so many different things and this is the answer! As for the pencil, things for me tend to change on the daily so being able to erase when I need to is so important! I also just love writing with pencil better, there’s something about it that I find soothing because I’m a weird who hates pens😂

Reusable Water Bottle – You guys I am a water FIEND. But! Only when I have it on hand. I absolutely hate buying plastic water bottles (except for when I’m traveling) but I’m also thirsty, so I make sure before I leave the house that I have my water bottle. Between sitting in traffic here in LA and sitting at my desk, I actually find myself drinking a ton of water just out of boredom. No matter the reason though, I know it’s important to stay hydrated for soooo many reasons (better digestion, metabolism, clear skin, etc.) and knowing that I have water on hand at all times just makes doing so a lot easier!

Snacks – If you know me at all, you know I neverrrrr go anywhere without extra food. I’m one of those people that needs to know where/when there next meal is, so I like to carry around a bar or whole fruit or something so that I always have a healthy option no matter what. I just know myself and if I don’t have a snack with actual protein/fiber/etc., I’ll get hangry REAL quick. It’s also so much easier (and cheaper and healthier!) to have a stash in my purse rather than having to run out to a store to pick up something!

Dancing for Donuts | What's in My Purse: Dandy Bee Company Organic Lip Balm

Dandy Bee Company Chapstick – So fun fact and possibly TMI about me, my lips are ALWAYS chapped. I know, it’s not cute, but it’s real. I recently tried the chapstick from Dandy Bee Company and have legitimately fallen in love with how this stuff feels on my lips. I also love that this company was founded by a mom who wanted to limit the amount of toxins around her children (we LOVE a woman-run business🙌) and uses only organic ingredients. I’m looking at the label right now you guys and I can pronounce every single thing on here (like avocado butter, stevia extract and shea butter).

In an effort to move towards more clean-beauty, I feel really good about carrying this in my bag! I’m actually doing a *giveaway* with them on Instagram today, so be sure to head to my post to enter! They were also generous enough to give me a coupon code for you guys so if you use ’10dancingbee’ to checkout at Amazon or through this link, you’ll get 10% off through July 24th!!!

Sunglasses – Can I tell you something outrageous? I used to like, not wear sunglasses. I thought they were annoying (which I sometimes still do) because I have a small head and they all slide down my nose when I’m sweaty. While this totally still happens, I’m like HOW the heck did I not wear sunglasses? Driving here in LA where it’s sunny 95% of the time, it is a must. Not to mention I’m overly concerned about wrinkles these days and scrunching up my face/squinting ain’t a good look.

Headphones – I talk about my daily “podcast walks” on both the blog and my Instagram quite a bit, and having headphones an absolute essential part of this obviously! I’ve forgotten my headphones on at least two occasions and I can tell you my walk was a loooot shorter. If you’d like to check out my favorite podcasts (I’m obsessed with them), head to this post.

Now I wanna know what’s in YOUR purse!! Tell me in the comments one thing you can’t live without having on hand👇

June Favorites

Another month has come and gone and I swear yesterday was like February…

Dancing for Donuts | June Favorites

Despite the exceptionally terrifying pace with which time is passing by, I actually ate/read/found some pretty amazing things in June and I’m excited to share them with you! This month was kind of weird for me – because I broke my elbow, I wasn’t taking any workout classes or even working out at all, but somehow found myself with no more free time than usual! Perhaps that’s why this month flew by…

Anyway! As always, most of these items are food related, but we’ve got a couple of random ones in there, too. I hope you find something you’d like to try, too😊

Dancing for Donuts | June Favorites

Kite Hill Chive Cream Cheese – Okay I never in my entire life would’ve imagined that vegan cheese could be something I loved but you guyssssss. I legitimately prefer this stuff to regular cream cheese and I can tell you that pairing it with smoked salmon (aka one of my favorite food combos of life) is a match made in freakin’ HEAVEN. I got mine from Milk & Eggs but I know they’re at Whole Foods and probably Sprouts, too!

Dancing for Donuts | June Favorites

CaseAppSo this one isn’t food, but it is how I got my cute logo on my laptop up there ^. So CaseApp is a website where you can design your own phone cases and laptop skins and the reason I love it is because I am allllll about that branding. I mean, I mostly just love my logo because I also love donuts and Vicky Leta did an amazing job illustrating it, but I also think it’s nice to have these things for you business…or just yourself! They’d made cute gifts, too😉 I have a coupon code for this one – to get 20% off just use the code 20JORDAN

Oatly Oat Milk – Oat Milk has been quite the craze lately and I can promise you there’s a reason! I can’t speak to other brands ’cause I haven’t tried anything other than Oatly yet, but this stuff is freakin’ MAGIC. I don’t know how they do it – it’s literally as creamy as regular milk and there’s just a veryyy slight flavor but I love it. I’m not allergic to dairy, I just like to have it in smaller doses, but if you are dairy-free and miss milk, THIS is your winner, my friends.

Dancing for Donuts | June Favorites

Tonic Beauty Collagen– I’m not gonna lie to you, when everyone started raving about collagen last year I thought it was bogus. I was like, why is everyone trying to push this expensive powder on me when I already have protein powder and biotin gummies? Well I’ll tell you why – my NAILS you guys have literally never been longer. They’re so strong, they don’t break, my hair looks amazing and my skin has been pretty dang clear. I love Tonic’s Beauty Collagen because it’s flavorless, so I can add it to my coffee or smoothies. They also come in to-go sticks, which is amazing for travel! I’m bringing mine to Cabo this weekend😁 And I promise it’s worth every penny – even my mom has been loving it!!

Adidas White Sneakers – So y’know how I told you I hadn’t been working out this whole month? Well I replaced my normal sweat sessions with walks! I literally was walking over 2 hours a day trying to hit 12k steps a day and I actually kind of loved it? I usually walked while listening to a podcast and I walked in THESE sneakers. They are so stinkin’ cute with just about any outfit and I could pull them off at work, which made my lunch walk soooo much more comfortable than it would be in my booties. They’re insanely comfortable and they’re under $50. Can’t beat kicks that are functional AND actually look good!

Dancing for Donuts | June Favorites

Square Organics Protein Popcorn– If there were a healthy version of crack, this would be it. I’m so addicted to this popcorn that I actually snapped at my boyfriend for taking a handful yesterday…it’s that good. My favorite is the Lightly Sweet flavor, but the others are incredible, too! And you can get 20% off with my code ‘dancing.for.donuts’ on their site if you wanna try – I won’t make money off it or anything, but I know everyone loves a good discount😊

Big Magic – I know this one seems random, and for a primarily ‘food blog’ it definitely is, but I like to this of this as more than just a food blog. It’s a healthy living blog in my opinion and since I’m all about healthy minds just as much as I am healthy bodies, THIS is a very important read. It might not be for everyone, it’s essentially about creativity and would appeal most to people who have a creative side and like things like photograph

Dancing for Donuts | June Favorites

Phyter Food Bars – I know, I know, I’m alwayssss talking about bars on here…what can I say? I’m a snacker! But these bars seriously blew me away. First of all, I think it’s a pretty good sign when something needs to be refrigerated because it means it has fewer preservatives in it, so we’ll start there. The ingredients are clean as ever. Then I will tell you about Phyter’s flavors because OH MA DAMN are they good. The beets and cocoa has been my absolute favorite so far but the kale and apple was freakin’ delicious, too. Highly recommend these!!

Okay y’all, I’m actually off to Mexico today for a much-needed vacation! What are you guys up to this weekend and for the 4th of July?! Hope it’s something fun!

Weekend In My Life: Food Blogging, Fitness + Eats (My First Vlog!)

Guys. I did something. I made my first YouTube video🙊

Dancing for Donuts | Weekend in My Life: Food Blogging, Fitness, and LA Eats (My First Vlog!!!)

I’m not gonna lie to you, I’m kind of afraid to post this, but I’m also kind of really proud so I want to share it with you…

I promised myself I would learn how to create and edit video in 2018, so here I am! It’s not perfect, the sound isn’t great and the transitions are off, plus I definitely need to work on my lighting and my voice, but HEY. I’ll get there😊

If I’ve hung out with you in the last few months, you probably know that I’ve become semi-addicted to YouTube videos…I’m not sure why, but I do know that I feel like I know some of the YouTubers I follow (which is ridiculous, I know…) because it is SO much easier to get to know someone via video rather than writing or photos. Do you know what I mean? Like if you can hear someone’s voice and picture them, you can just get a sense of their personality much better. So it was this idea, coupled with the fact that I want to be able to offer video services to my social media clients, that I decided to start vlogging. I had the MOST fun time making this and I honestly can’t wait to make more.

That being said, please oh please give me feedback, even if it’s a little negative (I have thick skin)! I want to get better, to make better content for YOU so if there’s something you’d want to see more or less of, or if you think this is a silly idea altogether, feel free to let me know. I appreciate your honesty! And if you want to see more, just hit the subscribe button on the bottom right under the video once you’re on YouTube’s actual website😊

Friday Finds

T👏🏻G👏🏻I👏🏻F👏🏻

Dancing for Donuts | Friday Finds

MAN this week was a long one! I’m super looking forward to having some me-time this weekend…anyone else?! I’ve been seeing people taking baths with those gorgeous and colorful Lush bath bombs a lot lately, which may be good motivation to clean my tub and then hop in there! I’ve never tried using one, but they seem glorious.

I don’t know why, but this week not only felt long, but kind of hard to get through, and not even because work has been overly stressful or anything. I think after the holidays I have a bit of a slump, just because the excitement of Christmas is obviously gone and there’s not much on the horizon. I kid you not, I literally looked up last-minute tickets for a Hawaii getaway at the end of the month randomly during my lunch on Tuesday…who knows if I’ll actually pull the trigger but it sounded SO lovely in the moment!

Anyway, back to the usj! Here’s what I’ve been reading this week:

How to Get Healthy on a Budget – Allllll about these tips. And that discount activewear business is REAL. I was just talking to my mom about this yesterday but there is NO need to spend $100 on great workout pants anymore. Save your money for something else!

The Best Search Engines for Finding Cheap Flights – For anyone else feeling that travel bug hard this month!!!

Pistachio Coconut Oatmeal – I’ve been having so many smoothies that leave me utterly freezing after I down them, so I’m thinking of adding warm oats to the rotation! These flavors sound incredible, which is no surprise since literally everything Jessica makes is unreal!

Permission to Do Less – Why do we always measure our worthiness based on our productivity?

6 Effective Workouts You Can Do in 30 Minutes or Less – ‘Cause honestly who has the time to put in an hour or more at the gym these days?!

10 Kitchen + Pantry Essentials for a Healthy New Year – This one’s another one of mine for ToBox, but I truly wanted to put it on here, too! These are some things I’m stocking up on this month to get my health & fitness routine back on track.

What about you guys? Have you found any new favorite blogs lately? Are you heading out for some mid-winter travels soon? Tell me where and make me jealous😉

Friday Finds

Friday, we meet again😏

Dancing for Donuts | Friday Finds | Oat Milk Latte

Thank goodness this week is a short one – with all the post-holiday catching up to do at work and in life, I’m ready for another break! We also haven’t done a Friday Finds in awhile, so I think it’s about time.

There’s been a looooot of advice floating around this internet this week in terms of health, fitness, resolutions, and really just motivation in general. It’s been great for sure, since who doesn’t need more of that, but I’m ready to take all of these tips and put them into action! I think we sometimes spend too much time planning or making lists (I am the MOST guilty of this!) instead of making it happen. The whole point of to-do lists is to check them off, right?

Okay, tangent over…not sure where that came from but I suppose my point is to tell you to just do it. Whatever it is. Take the plunge and DO IT. Like Nike…

How to Spend Less, Save More, and Clean Up Your Financial Act – I know it wasn’t one of my focus words but this year is definitely going to be the year of the hustle for me! I’ve got big things to save up for😉

7 Steps for Planning the Perfect Week – I actually love this breakdown on how to optimize your week for balance. It’s hard to fit work and having a life and being healthy and happy into just 7 days, but this outline is a good start!

Why Cooking is Part of My Self-Care Sunday Routine – Full disclosure: I actually wrote this one! I don’t think I’ve told you guys yet, but I’ve started co-blogging for ToBox this year, which is pretty rad☺️ You can find more of my writing each week on their site!

New Year Glow Smoothie Bowl – If someone could just bring me one of these rn that would be great.

8 Best Podcasts to Motivate Your Work Week – I already listen to a couple of these, but the rest I neeeeed to download! I don’t know about you, but I have a podcast queue longer than most people’s Netflix queues😅

Loaded Kale Salad – ‘Cause I’m hoppin’ back on that salad-a-day train this month (as best as I can, of course) and this one is definitely getting added to the mix!

14 Healthy Dinner Recipes to Help You Reset – These all sound delicious. Coming back from the holidays and having to plan meals/cook again hasn’t been the easiest thing in the world, so some inspiration is always welcome!

Alright my loves, have a fab weekend!! And also – if you wouldn’t mind sharing with me some of your favorite blogs as of late, I would looooove to check them out. I feel like I’m always seeing and sharing the same things!

Thanks😊

My Focus Word(s) for 2018

Peace out 2017, hellooooooo 2018😍

Dancing for Donuts | My Focus Word(s) for 2018

Happy New Year, my sweet friends!! I’m a couple of days late, but getting back into the swing of things after break hasn’t been easy, as I’m sure you all know! I so badly wish I could be transported back to a week ago when I was still on vacation with my family on the east coast, but you know what? It’s okay because I’m actually looking forward to getting my sh*t together this month. I’ve just signed up for ClassPass and am super excited to start a new fitness plan, have started to work on some really exciting business opportunities, and will be finishing up decorating our apartment. Lots of good stuff in the works!!

As you probably all could’ve guessed, I’m not really one of those people that waits until January 1st to make resolutions. I tend to make them all year round, writing out my goals and plans monthly, weekly and even daily most of the time, so when I thought about how I wanted to approach 2018, I felt like writing down a list of new year’s resolutions wasn’t going to work for me. Instead, I thought I’d choose a focus word or two, something easy to remember, and truly aligned with my goals for this year. So, without further ado, here they are!😊

Dancing for Donuts | My Focus Word(s) for 2018

Love

It took me a long time to decide if this one was too cheesy or not, but the more I thought about it, the more I knew that it was the perfect fit for this year. First of all, I want to make sure that I’m showing my love for those around me on a regular basis. I live across the country from my family and many of my friends, and don’t even get to see the ones in my city nearly enough either. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, a little distance can’t come between a strong friendship and nothing is more important than that.

I know a little goes a long way – a letter, phone call, or even text will do if that’s all I can manage. I want to take this year to strengthen the relationships I have, and also take time to cultivate new ones. At the end of the day, it’s who you surround yourself with, and I think it’s so important to express love and gratitude for those people I’m lucky enough to have in my life. I want to lift them up, motivate them, encourage them, and make sure I’m there when they need me.

I also want to take this year to love myself. I’m not necessarily a self-conscious person, but I’m certainly not the most confident, either. Hearing “no” a gazillion times in your professional life can really take a toll on ya😅 (helloooo entertainment industry, I’m lookin’ at you). But seriously, in this era of social media, it’s pretty much the easiest thing in the world to find someone else who looks like they live a way better, more perfect life than you. So how can we not feel inadequate sometimes?

I know that these comparison traps exist, but I want to let them go in 2018. Like BAI, see ya never because if looking at it and thinking about it doesn’t bring me joy or inspire me, I want it GONE. I want to let go of self-doubt, lack of self-esteem, and the things that don’t serve me. I want to take the time to treat myself, even if it’s to something as silly as that iced latté I’ve been craving for a week, or a haircut that’ll make me feel like a million bucks. It’s not about money, but really just taking the time to do what makes me happy because that is the start of self-love. Of living a life I’m proud of, and being the best I can be so I can help others do the same.

Dancing for Donuts | My Focus Word(s) for 2018

Dream

Yep, another cheesy one (because what can I say, I love all things Pinterest and inspirational quotes). I literally could not decide between this word and the one above because this one is so freakin’ important to me, too. I’ve said this before, but about 8 years ago, I decided to move across the country to a place where I knew no one and had no job, no nothing, because what I did have was the dream of becoming a professional dancer. I had this crazy drive in me to just say f*ck it, and drop everything (in a well-thought out, very calculated manner of course😂) because I wanted to make it happen. And guess what? I did.

In the last couple of years, I’ve found myself doing so many wonderful things like meeting new people and traveling and starting a new career, which is great, don’t get me wrong, but I feel like I haven’t been doing much daydreaming lately. Does that make sense? Like I’ve been super focused on getting through the day to day and just being a girl with a life and resumé I’m proud of and honestly just watching a crap ton of YouTube videos when I have down time because I LOVE them. But I miss the dreaming part of life. The part where you have these insane ideas and imagine yourself just GOING FOR IT.

I’ve been asking myself lately, if I could do anything right now, like absolutely anything, what would it be? Would I go to Bali? Would I write a book? Would I go for a walk in my neighborhood and find a new restaurant? Who knows! But the possibilities are kind of endless. And I don’t have to stop my life or do something drastic to think this way, I just need to be present and find what fills my cup.

If I had to describe myself in one word, I’d probably say that I’m a hustler. I kid you not, I could be working a job that pays me a six figure salary and I’m 99% sure that I will still say yes to babysitting on a Saturday night because why not? I figure I get to hang out with some super cute kiddos and then get a boat load of work done once they’re asleep. I have a looooot I want to accomplish this year, and sitting on my tucas isn’t going to get me there. I want to take this year to focus on what I really want out of this life, and then go grab it by the ball$. I want to have crazy daydreams and then make them reality.

Dancing for Donuts | Focus Word(s) for 2018

So yeah. Those are my focus words and I’m SO excited to wake up every morning and choose to love, to dream. I hope I keep doing those things well after 2018, but hey, it’s a start😊

But enough about me – what about you?! Did you make any resolutions this year or choose a focus word? I’d love to hear because chances are, I’ll be adding more to my list as time goes on!

Top 10 Posts of 2017

Hi friends and Happy (almost) New Year!!!!

Dancing for Donuts | Top 10 Posts of 2017

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! I obviously wanted to take some time this week to just soak up as much time with my family as possible, so I did take a mini blog-break. As I sit on the train down to D.C., I’m feeling so unbelievably grateful for having the opportunity to travel home for the holidays and to work remotely. I hope you all were able to, as well!

This year has been pretty nuts in so many ways, particularly for the world (and this country) in general, but personally I experienced a ton of personal growth, adventuring, and figuring out where I want to be in life. I expanded my skillset professionally, started growing my blog, strengthened new and old friendships, moved into a new apartment with my boyfriend, and traveled to so many new places. It’s been quite the year!

I just want to thank you all so much for reading my blog, you have no idea how fulfilling it has been to create content and have this creative outlet. Reading your comments and hearing your feedback makes me so happy, and I’m honored to be able to share this bit of my life with you. With that, I wanted to take a quick moment to wrap up the year with my top 10 posts of 2017! I’m looking forward to spending even more time in the kitchen and on DFD in the upcoming year, so please let me know in the comments if there’s anything you’d like to see more or less of, or even something different entirely!

Friday Finds

Well, we made it to the Friday before Christmas😍

Dancing for Donuts | Friday Finds

I’m actually writing to you from my parent’s house in New York (is it weird for me to still call it MY house? Because it’s totally going to be home for me always). I feel so freakin’ lucky to have been able to come home for both Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, since that hasn’t actually happened in 7 years! It feels so unbelievably good to be here, even if I have to work a bit remotely. Thank goodness for the digital age, #amiright?

Before I leave you for the holiday weekend, I just wanted to wish everyone a wonderful Christmas (if you celebrate) and even if you don’t, I hope you have time to relax, eat some delicious food, and be with friends and/or family. Is it just me or is this time of year the BEST because it reminds you of all the things you’re grateful for?

I’ll be spending most of this weekend baking cookies, sitting by a fire, and catching up with loved ones! I hope you get to do a version of the same😊 And now, back to our usual weekly roundup. They are some awesome last minute gift ideas in here!

5 Things to Get Rid of Before 2018 – Literally all of these, but especially #5. That was actually one of my New Year’s resolutions for this year! I did okay, but not great.

10 Genius Ideas for a Healthier Holiday – These tips are sooooo realistic, unlike so many others I see floating around during this time. Just eat the dang dessert and stop talking about your diet. Please. The kale will be there tomorrow!

Gluten-Free Dark Chocolate Eggnog Cookies – I’ve only actually had eggnog a couple of times, but I remember loving it. These sounds super delicious, and I love that they’re allergen-friendly!

DIY Sugar Scrub Cubes – Perfect for gifts or yourself!! I’m obsessed with scrubs lately. They make me feel like I’m at a spa…

Vegan Maple Lavender Shortbread Cookies

GUYS. We are 5 DAYS from Christmas. I repeat: 5. Days.

Dancing for Donuts | Vegan Maple Lavender Shortbread Cookies

To say I am excited would be the understatement of the century. I’m literally counting down the minutes until I get to see family and friends, bake a crap ton of cookies with my mom, and spend my first holiday ever with my boyfriend. PUMPED.

Okay now that I’ve exploded with holiday cheer, let’s move on to more pressing matters: these COOKIES. Let me express to you just how good they are – I’m rationing them so that I don’t run out before I go home for the holidays. Like instead of shoveling them all in my mouth at once, I’m actually savoring them bite by bite and THAT is saying a lot. And before you go thinking I’m all full of myself and stuff because I made a recipe that is full on inspiring me to possibly open up a bakery someday, I just want you to know that I legitimately set out to make these as an experiment and thought they might turn out terrible and crumbly and dry like lots of healthy desserts are…but! Thank cookies could not be more opposite of that.

I don’t even know how these have zero dairy in them…it’s kind of mind-blowing. And they 110% do NOT crumble. Isn’t that nuts?! That’s like my biggest pet peeve with some shortbread recipes. I think the best thing about these guys, aside from them being vegan friendly, is that they’re just the riiiiight amount of sweetness. Apparently there are people in this world that don’t love desserts and sugary things (WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE AND WHERE ARE YOU FROM), but these are the perfect cookies for those people.

And I know these are super Christmas-y or seasonal or what have you, but I think that’s what makes them perfect for the holidays. I think we all tend to OD on the rich stuff, the peppermint and chocolate and pecan and all that, so to have something a bit lighter as an option is nice! I know lavender isn’t something people always have on hand, but this recipe coupled with my lavender almond milk latté should give you enough reason to stock up now😉

Vegan Maple Lavender Shortbread Cookies

1/2 cup coconut oil (cooled & hard – pop it in the freezer for a sec if you need to!)

1/3 cup natural powdered sugar (*check this list for vegan sugar brands!)

1/4 tsp sea salt

1/2 tsp Lavender Flowers *go for culinary grade!

1 1/3 cup all-purpose flour

3 tbsp maple syrup

3 tbsp non-milk – coconut, almond, soy, etc.

1. Preheat the oven 350 degrees fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper (ideal, but if you don’t have any just use lots of coconut oil!).

2. In a large bowl combine the coconut oil, powdered sugar and sea salt with a fork until all the sugar is combined and light & fluffy (might take a minute or so depending on your arm!).

3. Add the lavender flowers, then the flour 1/3 cup at a time and use your hands or the fork to combine. Don’t use an electric mixer for this one!

4. Finally, add the non-dairy milk and the maple syrup one tablespoon at a time and be careful not to not overmix! The dough may seem dry but try not to add any extra liquid here as it will mess with the consistency of the cookies.

5. Lightly dust a cutting board or clean surface with flour. Form the dough into a ball and then roll it out until it’s about 1/4 inch thick. Use a cookie cutter, mason jar, or glass to form the cookies into shapes.

6. Place the cookies on the parchment paper and bake for 10-12 minutes. *Check on them at 10 minutes just in case! You’ll want to take them out when they’re juuuuust starting to brown on the edges. They overbake quickly!

7. Let cool completely before noshing – I promise they’ll taste better this way! Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

So that’s it for today my loves! Thanks for stopping by – I so appreciate every single one of you and I know I don’t say it enough.

Have a Happy Humpday!
