Why I Ordered From a Meal Delivery Service During My Busiest Work Week of My Year

Hey guys!! I’m back in business after one crazy work week!

Why I Ordered From a Meal Delivery Service During the Busiest Work Week of My Year | Dancing for Donuts | Territory Foods

In case you aren’t in the food world, last week was Natural Products Expo (or Expo West) here in SoCal from Wednesday to Saturday! Expo West is basically the biggest food trade show in the country and it connects thousands of food brands with hundreds of thousands of people. This was my first year attending and I not only went for myself as a blogger/social media consultant, but also to help one of my clients at her booth.

I ended driving back and forth each day from LA to the show in Anaheim (which I wouldn’t necessarily recommend to anyone working the show now that I look back on it😅). It was a ton of sititng in the car, mixed with standing, talking, eating, and walking, and I can’t tell you how exhausted I was after just the first day, let alone the third!

Why I Ordered From a Meal Delivery Service During the Busiest Work Week of My Year | Dancing for Donuts | Territory Foods

More importantly though, I really didn’t have time to cook, which is actually SUPER important because Expo is essentially just thousands of snacks consumed in a very short time period😂 It’s for this reason that I decided to spring for Territory Foods last week, my favorite meal delivery service! If you guys remember, I ordered from them once before over the summer after coming back from a vacation.

Sometimes it can seem like meal delivery services are expensive, and they are pricier than cooking at home, but sometimes convenience just has to win! I really did not want to sacrifice my health any more than I had to last week, so being able to just open the fridge and have clean meals ready for me in the morning and at night was KEY. And when it comes down to it, it really is cheaper than ordering in/out!

Why I Ordered From a Meal Delivery Service During the Busiest Work Week of My Year | Dancing for Donuts | Territory Foods

The process is insanely easy with Territory Foods. I know there are a ton of meal delivery services out there, but here’s why I love Territory in particular:

  • They have meals for every diet and you can easily search by vegetarian, vegan, paleo, keto, or gluten free
  • The work with local nutritionists and chefs
  • Everything is sustainably sourced
  • I can have meals delivered twice during the week so I know it’s extremely fresh
  • The menu changes all the time and there’s a ton of variety!
  • The ingredients and nutrition facts are listed right on the package and everything is perfectly portioned (there are two portion size options!)
Why I Ordered From a Meal Delivery Service During the Busiest Work Week of My Year | Dancing for Donuts | Territory Foods

I remember being blown away by Territory’s meals last year, but for some reason they seemed even more delicious this time around! Some of my favorite meals were:

  • Brunch in a Bowl (with Chicken Sausage, Scrambled Eggs, Beets, Kale & Sweet Potato)
  • Vegan Chile with Cilantro & Tortilla Crisps
  • Salmon Cakes with Pesto & Apple Fennel Slaw
  • Breakfast Sausage Patties with Sautéed Veggies & Aioli
  • Harvest Spice Muffins with Baked Apples
  • Orange Cakes with Mint Melon Salad
Why I Ordered From a Meal Delivery Service During the Busiest Work Week of My Year | Dancing for Donuts | Territory Foods

So all in all, I have to just give a quick shoutout to Territory Foods for pretty much saving my life and my stomach last week! Starting my day off with a solid breakfast (sometimes eaten in the car or behind the booth I worked at😅) and ending it with a nutritious meal after hours of snacking was all I could ask for! And if you guys have never tried a meal delivery service before, I’d highly recommend Territory over anything else – it’s so beyond worth it!

Hope you all are having a great week so far and thanks for reading!!

February Favorites

You guys it’s already almost March and I literally just realized I never even did a January Favorites roundup…THAT’S how quickly time is passing😮

That being said, it’s been an incredibly exciting month filled with change (#entrepreneurlife), events (because that life also requires lots of networking), and fun, too! In fact, I’m actually in Colorado right now for our annual family ski trip, and have been to both Ojai and the Santa Ynez Valley in the past couple of weeks, so fun might be an understatement…

Since I’m technically rounding up my favorites from the last two months instead of just one, I can tell you that the products listed below are for real some of the foods or things I enjoy on a regular basis after having had time to really evaluate what got to make the cut😉

Dancing for Donuts | February Favorites

Banza Chickpea Rice – You guys this RICE holy crap. It’s made out of chickpeas…like WHAT?! HOW. It tastes like orzo and only takes about 6 minutes to make, plus it has 11g of protein and 5g of fiber. I turned mine into “fried rice” by sautéeing garlic and ginger, then adding shitake mushrooms, carrots, coconut aminos, avocado and TJ’s ETBT seasoning!

Ona Cookies – When I tell you guys that I try a lot of little healthy treats/bars, I mean a LOT. I haven’t fallen in love with a snack like these Ona Cookies in quite some time and it’s safe to say that I’m full on hooked. They’re gluten-free and kind of taste like macaroons, but so much better and the flavors are to die for. I think the Coconut Shortbread is my favorite!

Dancing for Donuts | February Favorites

Trader Joe’s Cauliflower Gnocchi – Listen. I would be straight up lying to you if I said I didn’t have this at least twice a week for dinner. Maybe three times…it’s just THAT good and that easy! I usually sauté mine in a pan with ghee and spinach, add in a tablespoon or two of pesto, and some parmesan. Well, that or my vegan mac and cheese sauce!

Elmhurst 1925 Plant Based Milks – I know everyone and their mother makes nut milks now, but I recently tried Elmhurst 1925 and was blown away. First of all, the ingredients are always just the nut (or oat) plus water, that’s IT. And lemme tell ya, next time you’re grocery shopping just take a look at the nutrition label on your almond milk. I can almost guarantee you’ll see a longer list of ingredients! These milks are also nice and creamy, especially when you froth them before pouring in your hot coffee😍

Dancing for Donuts | February Favorites

Lavva Plant Based Yogurt – Okay I’ve clearly formed many obsessions this month because I swear to you I could survive off this stuff. I’ve tried a ton of different non-dairy yogurts and truly have hated them all…until now!! Lavva is thicker than any others I’ve tried (they’re usually so soup-y!) and the flavors are incredible. I also love that there’s no added sugar!

Mad Fit YouTube Workouts – What’s that you say, you didn’t know about my YouTube obsession? Yep, welcome to my life folks. I don’t even watch tv anymore really😂 One of my favorite things about the platform though is access to free workouts!! Mad Fit posts all kinds of amazing workouts that vary in time and work all different parts of the body. They’re home-workout friendly and require little to no equipment, too!

Dancing for Donuts | February Favorites

Osso Good Bones Signature Bone Broth – So it’s come to my attention that not many people know what bone broth is! I think I must just live in an LA bubble because I feel like everyone I know is drinking this stuff – it’s insanely high in protein and nutrients, but fairly low in calories (not that I’m counting, but y’know!). And more importantly, it’s amazing for gut health! If you want to hear more about it, and why I love Osso Good Bones so much, you can watch my YT video from my broth cleanse!

Dancing for Donuts | February Favorites

True & Co. Bras – Okay I know this isn’t for everyone, just my ladies, but I had to share it with you. I’ve been searching high and freakin’ LOW for a solid strapless bra that doesn’t dig into me or fall down, and I’ve finally found a winner. I actually might be even more obsessed with the True Body Seamless V Neck Bra, which I was definitely not expecting. It seemed a little grandma-y when I first got it and now that I’ve worn it for the past 5 days, I can confirm that it is straight up seamless magic.

WHEW, sorry that was a long one! I wish I could add at least 5 more things, but those might have to wait since I know you probably have a zillion things you have to do today.

Thank you so much for stopping by and if you have time, please let me know in the comments some of the things you’ve been loving lately!

Friday Finds

Ahh, there’s nothing better than when a Friday pops up earlier than expected due to a short holiday week!

Dancing for Donuts | Friday Finds

^ that was taken last weekend when we went up to the Santa Ynez Valley for wine tasting! I wanted to write a blog post on it, but we were only there for 24 hours so it wouldn’t have been very long😅

Anyway, I’m pretty happy it’s Friday because today I’m leaving to celebrate my friend Connor’s 30th birthday in Ojai! I’ve never been before, but I hear it’s beautiful, too. And then next week I actually go to Colorado, so lots of travel coming up!!

If you’re looking for some light reading after another week of news that’ll make your head spin, here’s what I’ve got for ya:

11 Inspiring Women On How They Start Their Day – I loooove hearing about other peoples’ morning and night routines for some reason!!

The New Superfoods You Need To Know About – I blame (or thank?) living in LA for knowing and consuming all of these on a regular basis😂

15 Minute Meal Prep: Sesame Noodle Bowls – These sound INSANE. I don’t know why I don’t make sesame and peanut noodles more often…

On Blogging: Six Ways I Deal With The Comparison Trap – I don’t know if this will resonate with most of you or not, but WOW is that comparison trap real.

5 Things to Try When You’re Feeling Uninspired – aka me all of February.

How to Make Cauliflower Gnocchi – Because my addiction to the TJ’s version is probably keeping my local store in business.

Have a great weekend, y’all!!

Paleo CBD Thin Mints

Humpday calls for baking, am I right?!

Paleo CBD Thin Mints | Dancing for Donuts

Today’s recipe is a bit different than usual – I’m adding in CBD Oil🙈

Truth be told, I always felt weird trying CBD products. I don’t smoke, I never have, and the idea of it just seemed strange to me, even though I’d heard such amazing things about it in the wellness world. A friend actually recently told me I should try using CBD oil to ease some pretty severe back pain I’ve been experiencing, too.

I haven’t actually been using it regularly so I can’t attest to its ability to ease that pain, but I can tell you that the easiest way to get me to ingest something is to put it in a dessert😂 And, as you know, I’m not actually following a paleo diet, but after doing my bone broth cleanse last week with Osso Good Bones, I’m definitely trying to eat a bit more grain-free.

Oh, and p.s. my YouTube video on what I ate in a day while I was on the cleanse + my review of it is now live!

Paleo CBD Thin Mints | Dancing for Donuts

Paleo CBD Thin Mints

1 1/2 cups almond flour

1/3 cup cocoa or cacao powder

1/2 cup coconut sugar

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp kosher salt

1 egg

2 tbsp vanilla bean ghee (or regular/plain!)

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup dairy free chocolate chips (I used Enjoy Life!)

scant 1 tsp peppermint extract

4 full droppers of Charlotte’s Web Mint Chocolate CBD Oil (feel free to omit!)

  1. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper (definitely do not try this without parchment paper since the cookies might stick!).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the almond flour, cacao powder, coconut sugar, baking soda, and salt. Then add in the egg, ghee, and vanilla. Mix well – it may take a few minutes for the dough to come together but then it’ll be very wet!
  3. Place a piece of parchment paper on the counter (also don’t skip this part!), place the dough on the parchment, and then add more parchment on top so the dough is in the middle. Use a rolling pin to roll the dough out as thinly as possible, to around 1/8 inch. Use a circular cookie cutter or the rim of a glass to make circles and carefully transfer them to the baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 28 minutes and let cool completely before making the chocolate mixture. Then, melt the chocolate chips in a microwave bowl in 30 second increments until completely melted. Add in the CBD oil if using and peppermint extract.
  5. Using a spoon, drizzle and smooth the chocolate over the top of each cookie and place back on the parchment to dry. Once the tops are all coated and dry, repeat on the bottom (I used less on the bottom than on the top, so just a thin layer will do!).
  6. Let cool completely before removing from parchment and store in an airtight container for up to 7 days. Or just dig in😉
Paleo CBD Thin Mints | Dancing for Donuts

Alright y’all, that is it for today! Let me know in the comments if you guys have ever used CBD oil before – I’m so curious to see if it’s truly worked for you!

How We’re Celebrating Valentine’s Day At Home

Happy Valentine’s Day, babes!!❤️

I’ll be honest with you, this holiday has always kind of been whatever to me, whether I’m in a relationship for it or not! I think my favorite way to celebrate is probably just to treat myself and whoever I’m spending it with.

It’s also a excuse to indulge a little – get a mani/pedi, maybe a new outfit, get a present for someone I love, bake a rich dessert, or eat a fancy dinner! That being said, my bf and I have never gone out to celebrate Valentine’s Day, just because all the restaurants are so overcrowded and overpriced. I’m also not a big fan of fixed price menus since you don’t get as many choices!

So, instead, here’s a rundown of how I’ll be spending Valentine’s Day at home! And, luckily my bf doesn’t actually read this, so it’ll still be a surprise to him😉

Dancing for Donuts | Recent Eats (February 2018)

A special, home-cooked dinner. Like I said, we love to cook at home! Since I’m now the one with the flexible schedule, I’m planning on making us a pretty full feast, just for fun! In the past, we’ve had risotto and lamb chops, so something a big more indulgent. I think I’ll continue the trend with this Slow Cooker Beef Ragu with Pappardelle or Shrimp and Bacon Risotto!

And dessert! Last year I made this Dark Chocolate Eclipse Cake and it was SO good. I honestly might just make that (’cause if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it), but I’m also think something like these Brownie Layer Cheesecake parfait things could be cute, maybe with some strawberries on top for festivity🍓

Plus Foot Massages… because I’m not very good at giving full body massages and it’s cheaper than the real thing😂 Not to mention it’s more comfortable and fun to just do it at home! I got this foot scrub and lotion from Barefoot Scientist and I think Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to break them out!

Dancing for Donuts | How We're Spending Valentine's Day At Home

And probably a movie. We don’t actually watch movies all that often, especially if we’re too tired on a weeknight to get through the whole thing, but we do like to curl up on the couch and watch something! Lately we’ve been loving The Good Place and the new season of True Detective.

But then a weekend getaway😍 We found out pretty recently that Alex has President’s Day off work, so we were thinking of heading up to a family friend’s cabin in the mountains tomorrow, but then we found out it’s got no power from all the snow! Instead, we’ll be heading up to the Santa Barbara area for wine tasting for just one night, but I’m so excited! I really just wanted to do something special since we’ve been spending so many weekends huddled up at home. Maybe the rainy season will end soon…

Anyway, that’s about it – I hope you guys have a fun night celebrating!! Even if you’re single or honestly just not even doing anything, take this night to show yourself some love. You deserve it!!!💕💕

Friday Finds

Happy Friday and Happy FEBRUARY!!!

Dancing for Donuts | Friday Finds

You guys, January was actually freakin’ bonkers for me and 100% felt like it was 100 days long. And I know everyone says that, but I feel like this past months was one of the craziest I’ve had in a VERY long time! It flew by so quickly that I didn’t even have a chance to do a January Favorites post for you, so I apologize!

With major changes to my career and schedule, I’m still trying to figure out this whole work and balance thing, so please bear with me😅 But for now, let’s just get back to Friday Finds, ’cause it’s been a hot minute!

How to Make Lasting Changes to Your Diet – THIS. I’ve never been one to make any super crazy changes to my diet, but that’s also because I strive to make healthy habits more just part of my lifestyle!

Prepping Ingredients for Awesome Lunches – Because you deserve to have a better one and so do I.

How I’m Getting Excited About Spending Valentine’s Day By Myself – I actually think my bf will be in town for V-Day, but even still, I think this kind of night is perfect for whenever. Self care and pampering is a MUST.

Creating a Weekly Family Meal Plan & TJ’s/Whole Foods Grocery List – Suuuuuper helpful (even without a family!). I don’t know why, but I’m so fascinated by other people’s grocery lists!! I also get some good ideas from seeing them.

How to Make a Superfood Latté – So you can not be like me and spend $8 on a latté (yes I did that this week, no I do not regret it, but still…😅)!

Influencer vs. Expertise: The Dangerous Rise of the Fitness Influencer – This article was the TALK of my Instagram feed this week, wow. It’s actually an incredible post and so valid. I highly recommend it to anyone in the fitness space, or even influencer space at all. It made me really think about what I’m posting and how it’s affecting other people!

Well, that’s it for today. Go enjoy your Friday night, stay warm, and eat something yummy!!

Recipes I’ve Recently Made & LOVED

Hey y’all! How’s everyone’s week going?!

Dancing for Donuts | Recipes I've Recently Made And Love

This is my first full week in LA as an entrepreneur and so far it’s been fantastic! It’s kind of crazy how much you can get done in a day, and how quickly time can fly. It’s almost February too, which is bonkers!!

I’ve actually been cooking up a storm over here, since I now have a bit more time and flexibility! While nothing is ever too crazy, there have been some notable recipes I’ve either followed or created. Since I’ve been catching up on work after Hawaii, I figured I’d throw everything in one blog post for you. Everything is shared below and honestly, I’m hungry just looking at it all again😍

Dancing for Donuts | Recipes I've Recently Made and LOVED

Sausage Pancake Muffins – I didn’t really follow much of a recipe on this one, but I did whip together a batch of Birch Benders pancake mix (as instructed), and then tossed in some Jones Dairy Farm pork sausage to bake in muffin cups at 350 degrees fahrenheit for about 15 minutes. Make these and then dip them in maple syrup. YOU’RE WELCOME.

Dancing for Donuts | Recipes I've Recently Made and LOVED

Ambitious Kitchen’s Corn Pasta Salad with Cashew Cilantro Pesto – Make this immediately. Trust me. And if you use Banza Chickpea Pasta (aka my favorite pasta of life) it’ll be packed with protein and fiber!

Dancing for Donuts | Recipes I've Recently Made and LOVED

Pinch of Yum’s Best Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies – Made these for a dinner party last weekend and MAN they were a hit. Definitely making them again veryyyy soon!

Dancing for Donuts | Recipes I've Recently Made and LOVED

Easy Raspberry Chia Jam – All you need to do to make this is heat up a few frozen raspberries in the microwave (I do about a quarter cup!), throw in about 1/2 tbsp chia seeds (ground or whole) and a sprinkle of coconut sugar. BOOM. 20 seconds later: chia jam!

Dancing for Donuts | Recipes I've Recently Made and LOVED

Vegan Cashew Cheese with Chickpea Pasta – So I didn’t fully follow a recipe for this one, but I did take a 1/2 cup soaked then drained cashews (in water for about 15 minutes), 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1/2 cup vegetable broth, 6 tbsp nutritional yeast, 2 gloves garlic, sea salt + peppa, and 2 tbsp brown or dijon mustard then blend it all up and voila! Creamy, dreamy vegan cheese 🙂

Dancing for Donuts | Recipes I've Recently Made and LOVED

Egg White Stovetop Oats – For this, I just took 1/2 cup of oats, 1/2 cup almond milk and 1/2 cup water, then stirred it together over the stove on medium for about 7 minutes. Once the liquid was almost completely absorbed, I took them off the heat, poured in an egg white and stirred veryyyy quickly so that it wouldn’t all cook together like an actual egg! This just adds some extra protein and a lotta fluff. Highly recommend!

How I’m Taking Control of My Health As A Woman This Month

This post is sponsored by Nurx, but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

As you already know from following along on here, women’s health (and health in general, of course!) is suuuuper important to me. I’m actually just going to go ahead and tell any of you fellas out there reading to maybe click away to something else, ‘cause this one’s for my ladies!

Something that’s been on my mind for months now as I prepared for entrepreneurship is health insurance. I’m not married, and I’m certainly not under 26 anymore, so being able to afford to take care of myself is somewhat daunting, but absolutely essential. Sure, there are some things we cannot control (helloooo genes), but the good news is that there are so many things we CAN control. Here are some of the simple, cost-effective ways I’m prioritizing my health this first month of 2019.

Having collagen every single day – I’ve been taking collagen for almost a year now, but I wasn’t diligent about taking it daily until a couple months ago. but I have been so much better about taking it every single day this month. I put it right by my coffee so that I remember to blend it in each morning! In case you’re not familiar with collagen, it can work wonders on the human body. I primarily take it for strong hair and nails, youthful looking skin, and gut health, but it can also help with joint pain as well as brain and heart health!

Eating more plant based – after reading a few articles about how women have a harder time digesting meat products than men, I’ve been making to eat more plant based wherever possible! That includes things as simple as swapping my meat proteins for fish, tofu or beans, and even used a plant-based protein powder in my smoothies instead of whey protein powder. *The collagen I mentioned above can either be animal based or plant-based – I try to take marine collagen whenever I can!

Taking the Nurx at-home HPV test – I know it’s not glamorous to talk about, but this month is Cervical Health Awareness Month. HPV is the most commonly transmitted STI and most men and women are infected with HPV at some point in their lives. As women, it is critical that we use the technology that is now available to us to check our health, because there are certain things like cervical cancer that men just don’t really have to worry about. If we catch them, or our risk of having them, early enough, we can help protect ourselves!

This is why when Nurx reached out to me, I kind of flipped out a little. Nurx is an at-home HPV test that you can do without scheduling an appointment at your gyno (idk about you but I am busy af these days and sometimes those places are booked months out!). It’s the same quality as a pap smear and it’s an affordable option to check your risk for cervical cancer. If you have insurance, Nurx is only $15, but even if you don’t, it’s just $69 (and one could argue the peace of mind that comes with these screenings is priceless!).

I also love how convenient this kit is for women who may not have access to traditional health care, whether they live far from a doctor’s office or just can’t afford the appointments. It’s pretty crazy too – there’s a stat that says nearly 25% of women without health insurance haven’t check their risk for cervical caner in the past 5 years. We have to change this! And I think a product like Nurx could even make a serious difference in third world countries or other areas where doctors aren’t as readily available to people.

Dancing for Donuts | How I'm Taking Control of My Health as a Woman this Month

To take the test at home, you just download the Nurx app or go to Nurx.com, answer a few questions and then you’ll receive the kit in the mail! You’ll swab yourself (the directions are super easy to follow and give all the detail you need!), then place everything in the pre-paid envelope which will then go right in the mail. Easy peasy!!

Tell me – how are you taking control of your health this month?!

7 Favorite Moments From the Mother of Fire Retreat in Maui

Aloha, babes! I am back from Maui and feeling so inspired, motivated, and grateful🌺

Dancing for Donuts | 7 Favorite Moments from the We Are Haumea Retreat in Maui

This post might be a long one, just because trying to sum up 5 incredible days in the most beautiful place surrounded by exceptional women is pretty challenging! But, I do want to tell you a bit more about the We Are Haumea Mother of Fire Retreat, which was originally organized by Joie Ruggiero, a Maui native, fitness instructor, and all-around stunning human being inside and out!

I was given the opportunity to participate in the Mother of Fire Retreat after meeting Joie last month at an event. I knew that with the timing of things to come (aka me launching my business!), going to Hawaii for a few days of fitness, fun, manifestation, empowerment, and connection was just what I needed to kick things off.

So, without further ado, let me share with you some of my favorite moments from my trip to Maui, Hawaii with We Are Haumea!

Dancing for Donuts | 7 Favorite Moments from the We Are Haumea Retreat in Maui

Athletic Geometry with Joie – You guys. If I had to pick a favorite workout of all time (that isn’t a dance class), it would have to be Joie’s class. It’s a combination of cardio dance and sculpting, and though it’s quite possibly the hardest workout I’ve ever done, it’s SO fun. Each move has a true purpose and helps sculpt more than one muscle group at a time, so it’s efficient, too. Joie teaches at ModelFit in LA and Alo Yoga too, if you’re in the area and ever want to go to her class!

Dancing for Donuts | 7 Favorite Moments from the We Are Haumea Retreat in Maui

Manifesting with Gwen – On our first full day of the retreat, we had our first workshop with Gwen, who was the vision and healing coach throughout our days in Maui. The first of her three workshops was my absolute favorite because we got to dive deep into what we see for ourselves in the future. We wrote down on paper who, what and where we want to be. Instead of writing these things down as “I want” we wrote them in present tense as “I am.” We then spoke these desires out loud to one another and somehow it made them feel more tangible, like there was no question that we could achieve each and every one of them. Afterwards, I felt like I could do ANYTHING, and still do.

Yoga with Elise – I can’t even tell you how sad I am that Elise is based in New York because I would literally take her yoga class every day! While her classes definitely call in strength and make you sweat, they also stretch and move the muscles in ways I don’t do very often. Her voice is incredibly soothing, she’s funny, kind, helps with poses if you need any adjustments, and really brings something unique to her practice. If you’re based in NY too, find her at any of the three Sky Ting locations!

Dancing for Donuts | 7 Favorite Moments from the We Are Haumea Retreat in Maui

Getting to Know the Women – I truly think the best part of an experience like this is meeting the other people. It’s kind of amazing, but all 9-10 of us had incredibly unique backgrounds and yet had so many things in common, too. For example, Elise and I actually went to NYU at the same time and even have mutual friends. How crazy is that?! I just couldn’t have asked for a more incredible group of strong, powerful women to be surrounded by. Some were in their late 20’s or early 30’s like me, some were mothers, some were business owners and some were just trying to figure out what they wanted to do, but we ALL connected in a way I can’t even begin to describe.

Dancing for Donuts | 7 Favorite Moments from the We Are Haumea Retreat in Maui

Sunrise at Haleakala – So I’ve seen the sunrise at Haleakala before, but I can tell you that it is just as breathtaking the second time around (and probably the 3rd or 4th, too). We woke up at 4:45, drove up the mountain and caught the sunrise from the 3rd tallest mountain in the world at 7:05am. I’ve never seen anything like this anywhere else in the world – you’re high up above the clouds and the colors are just spectacular. If you’re lucky, the park rangers will be chanting in Hawaiian as the sun rises, but no matter what you’ll be able to see the incredible crater with deep red rocks once the sun has fully risen.

Exploring the Grounds at Lumeria Maui – Man did I try to take a photo beautiful enough to do this property justice, but I don’t think I even came close. Imagine the most lush place you’ve ever seen, add in some gorgeous red and purple plants, palms, and hibiscus flowers. Then include a few beautiful buddha statues, twinkle lights in the trees, an area with 4-5 hammocks, a great lawn and a stunning pool. Please just come visit this magical hotel if you ever get the chance! The food was to die for, too.

Dancing for Donuts | 7 Favorite Moments from the We Are Haumea Retreat in Maui

Beach Workout + Cleanup – This one was another super special moment to me. On day three, we did a bit of sculpting on Baby Beach, then spent about 40 minutes picking up micro plastic from the beach. At first you don’t even notice it (it almost looks like specks of colorful seaglass) but then you realize it’s EVERYWHERE – just tiny pieces of plastic that sea creatures like turtles can accidentally swallow littering the beach. Seeing how real this micro plastic problem is made me feel a bit helpless, but also motivated to reduce my plastic usage now that I’m back home. I’m also grateful that we had the opportunity to give back to the land we were visiting.

Well, if you made it the end of this post, you’re a rockstar and I can’t even begin to express how much gratitude I have for this platform and the incredible people it’s brought into my life. If you want more, you can watch my vlog from the trip below:

Thank you for reading and please let me know if the comments if you have any questions! I truly think anyone could benefit from attending a retreat like We Are Haumea – it truly is life changing!

Transitioning to Green Beauty: Hair Care

Dancing for Donuts | Green Beauty: Haircare Edition

Hi friends! I’m going to be talking about something a little different on here that’s becoming increasingly more important to me: green beauty!

I honestly was never super into beauty (like makeup, skincare or hair care) until a couple years ago. And now? I’m kind of obsessed. But you know what’s crazy is that there are a lottttt of chemicals in the stuff we generally put on our bodies from everything to soap to deodorant to foundation and hairspray. Luckily, options that are paraben-free and sulfate-free are becoming more and more available, which is amazing!!

I want to share some of my favorite products with you guys because in my opinion, healthy living encompasses everything from what we put IN our bodies to what we put ON them. After all, what goes on our skin ultimately goes into it, anyway.

Green Beauty Favorites – Hair Care

Formulate Shampoo & Conditioner – So this is a new company that I actually had the pleasure of working closely with during the second half of 2018! Formulate makes customized hair care, and I don’t just mean you get to pick your scent and your major hair concern. This stuff is suuuper personalized and you do fill out a pretty in depth (but not too time consuming!) quiz when you start.

Dancing for Donuts | Green Beauty: Haircare Edition

They even ask things like your zip code, sensitivity level of your scalp, and what tools or products you use to style your hair. Their products are preservative, paraben, sulfate and cruelty free (YAS), and they have a super easy to use app where you can adjust any of your information/give feedback on your formulas. I also love that they send you a really detailed description of what’s in your products – it’s nice to have that transparency!

Dancing for Donuts | Green Beauty: Haircare Edition

Full disclosure, I did have to get my formula re-made three times because the first couple batches were making my hair knotty, but their customer service is SO speedy and they work with their chemists to make sure your formula takes into account all of your feedback. I highly recommend this company and I love what they stand for!

Aquis Leave In Conditioner (from the Prime Starter Kit) – You guys I have been obsessed with this stuff. I color my hair with bleach, so it gets super knotty sometimes and I love spraying this in when I get out of the shower!! The entire starter kit is fantastic, but this bottle and their hair wrap towel are the two things I use the absolute most.

Jason Organic Coconut Oil – Umm please never underestimate the power of an inexpensive, no-frills product! I swear by hair masks and I won’t spend money on anything else but this coconut oil. I’ll rub a bit between my hands and then smooth it into my hair (either on the ends or all over!). About once every two weeks I’ll do this and just put my hair up in braids or a bun, then shower it out after an hour or so. It’s fantastic!

Let me know in the comments if there are any clean/green beauty products you’ve found that actually work!!
