Instagram went down for over 24 hours, I caught a pretty awful cold out of nowhere, and couldn’t get used to Daylight Savings time, but hey, we made it to Friday so it’s all good!😂
I’m actually super excited for this weekend because my best friend comes into town TONIGHT and we’ll be celebrating her 30th birthday. We’ll be exploring a bit of LA, but also heading down to Orange County! It’s always fun when people are in town (I had guests last week, too) because it gives an excuse to explore your own city😍
I’ll be sure to do a full recap for you next week, but until then, here’s what I’ve been reading:
Why I Think Blogging Is Here To Stay – You guys. Instagram AND Facebook went down this week (they’re actually down as I’m writing this…) and I’ve never believed in this more. Not to mention that blogs have always been my favorite to both read and write!
Ab-Quaking Resistance Band Workout – I’ve literally had the same ab workout since I was 13 (what can I say, it works!), but sometimes it’s nice to switch it up! And what CAN’T resistance bands do, honestly?
14 Best Gluten-Free Pasta Options – I’m not gluten free, but I will say that these gluten-based pasta alternatives are not only less inflammatory but way more nutritious. I know I talk about it on here a lot, but Banza is one of my faves!
The Ivy Lee Method for Productivity – I’ve honestly been having much more trouble focusing than I thought I would now that I work from home/for myself! I’m definitely going to be trying this next week.
You guys it’s already almost March and I literally just realized I never even did a January Favorites roundup…THAT’S how quickly time is passing😮
That being said, it’s been an incredibly exciting month filled with change (#entrepreneurlife), events (because that life also requires lots of networking), and fun, too! In fact, I’m actually in Colorado right now for our annual family ski trip, and have been to both Ojai and the Santa Ynez Valley in the past couple of weeks, so fun might be an understatement…
Since I’m technically rounding up my favorites from the last two months instead of just one, I can tell you that the products listed below are for real some of the foods or things I enjoy on a regular basis after having had time to really evaluate what got to make the cut😉
Banza Chickpea Rice – You guys this RICE holy crap. It’s made out of chickpeas…like WHAT?! HOW. It tastes like orzo and only takes about 6 minutes to make, plus it has 11g of protein and 5g of fiber. I turned mine into “fried rice” by sautéeing garlic and ginger, then adding shitake mushrooms, carrots, coconut aminos, avocado and TJ’s ETBT seasoning!
Ona Cookies – When I tell you guys that I try a lot of little healthy treats/bars, I mean a LOT. I haven’t fallen in love with a snack like these Ona Cookies in quite some time and it’s safe to say that I’m full on hooked. They’re gluten-free and kind of taste like macaroons, but so much better and the flavors are to die for. I think the Coconut Shortbread is my favorite!
Trader Joe’s Cauliflower Gnocchi – Listen. I would be straight up lying to you if I said I didn’t have this at least twice a week for dinner. Maybe three times…it’s just THAT good and that easy! I usually sauté mine in a pan with ghee and spinach, add in a tablespoon or two of pesto, and some parmesan. Well, that or my vegan mac and cheese sauce!
Elmhurst 1925 Plant Based Milks – I know everyone and their mother makes nut milks now, but I recently tried Elmhurst 1925 and was blown away. First of all, the ingredients are always just the nut (or oat) plus water, that’s IT. And lemme tell ya, next time you’re grocery shopping just take a look at the nutrition label on your almond milk. I can almost guarantee you’ll see a longer list of ingredients! These milks are also nice and creamy, especially when you froth them before pouring in your hot coffee😍
Lavva Plant Based Yogurt – Okay I’ve clearly formed many obsessions this month because I swear to you I could survive off this stuff. I’ve tried a ton of different non-dairy yogurts and truly have hated them all…until now!! Lavva is thicker than any others I’ve tried (they’re usually so soup-y!) and the flavors are incredible. I also love that there’s no added sugar!
Mad Fit YouTube Workouts – What’s that you say, you didn’t know about my YouTube obsession? Yep, welcome to my life folks. I don’t even watch tv anymore really😂 One of my favorite things about the platform though is access to free workouts!! Mad Fit posts all kinds of amazing workouts that vary in time and work all different parts of the body. They’re home-workout friendly and require little to no equipment, too!
Osso Good Bones Signature Bone Broth – So it’s come to my attention that not many people know what bone broth is! I think I must just live in an LA bubble because I feel like everyone I know is drinking this stuff – it’s insanely high in protein and nutrients, but fairly low in calories (not that I’m counting, but y’know!). And more importantly, it’s amazing for gut health! If you want to hear more about it, and why I love Osso Good Bones so much, you can watch my YT video from my broth cleanse!
True & Co. Bras – Okay I know this isn’t for everyone, just my ladies, but I had to share it with you. I’ve been searching high and freakin’ LOW for a solid strapless bra that doesn’t dig into me or fall down, and I’ve finally found a winner. I actually might be even more obsessed with the True Body Seamless V Neck Bra, which I was definitely not expecting. It seemed a little grandma-y when I first got it and now that I’ve worn it for the past 5 days, I can confirm that it is straight up seamless magic.
WHEW, sorry that was a long one! I wish I could add at least 5 more things, but those might have to wait since I know you probably have a zillion things you have to do today.
Thank you so much for stopping by and if you have time, please let me know in the comments some of the things you’ve been loving lately!
Ahh, there’s nothing better than when a Friday pops up earlier than expected due to a short holiday week!
^ that was taken last weekend when we went up to the Santa Ynez Valley for wine tasting! I wanted to write a blog post on it, but we were only there for 24 hours so it wouldn’t have been very long😅
Anyway, I’m pretty happy it’s Friday because today I’m leaving to celebrate my friend Connor’s 30th birthday in Ojai! I’ve never been before, but I hear it’s beautiful, too. And then next week I actually go to Colorado, so lots of travel coming up!!
If you’re looking for some light reading after another week of news that’ll make your head spin, here’s what I’ve got for ya:
You guys, January was actually freakin’ bonkers for me and 100% felt like it was 100 days long. And I know everyone says that, but I feel like this past months was one of the craziest I’ve had in a VERY long time! It flew by so quickly that I didn’t even have a chance to do a January Favorites post for you, so I apologize!
With major changes to my career and schedule, I’m still trying to figure out this whole work and balance thing, so please bear with me😅 But for now, let’s just get back to Friday Finds, ’cause it’s been a hot minute!
How to Make Lasting Changes to Your Diet – THIS. I’ve never been one to make any super crazy changes to my diet, but that’s also because I strive to make healthy habits more just part of my lifestyle!
How to Make a Superfood Latté – So you can not be like me and spend $8 on a latté (yes I did that this week, no I do not regret it, but still…😅)!
Influencer vs. Expertise: The Dangerous Rise of the Fitness Influencer – This article was the TALK of my Instagram feed this week, wow. It’s actually an incredible post and so valid. I highly recommend it to anyone in the fitness space, or even influencer space at all. It made me really think about what I’m posting and how it’s affecting other people!
Well, that’s it for today. Go enjoy your Friday night, stay warm, and eat something yummy!!
We’re are TOASTIN’ to Friday over here, my friends!
This week was…interesting to say the least, but very eventful in some of the best ways possible! I went to the Tone It Up Love Your Body Series launch event on Tuesday (yes, Karena and Katrina are two of the most beautiful and kind women on the planet!!), had some friends over for dinner (nothing beats ending the day in good company), and made some MAJOR life moves.
I have something super exciting coming for your guys on Monday, but in the meantime, I’ll just get back to sharing my Friday Finds since it’s been awhile! 🙂
Arm Song Workout – I love ALL of Nicole’s workout videos so much. This one is super short/not intimidating at all, so it’s nice for days you feel lazy or just need a little extra boost to your workout!
I mean honestly this year FLEW by. Every single month of it! And I have a feeling next year will, too🙈 In true blogger fashion, I’m rounding out 2018 with a round up of my most popular posts! These are posts that resulted in the highest number of traffic to my blog this year, even though some of them are from previous years (like the energy bites I made in early 2017!).
I always find these interesting just for myself and content creating purposes, but hopefully you’ll find something in here that intrigues you, too!
10.Pumpkin Protein Muffins – I will definitely be making this recipe well into 2019, I don’t care what you pumpkin-haters say!
And there ya have it!! I hope you all have an absolutely incredible New Year’s – I have a feeling 2019 is going to be absolutely EPIC!!!!! Thank you so much for sticking with me this year. I appreciate each and every one of you so much!
One thing I realized I want to talk much more about on here is fitness!
Starting in January of last year, I finally branched out of my usual “cardio bunny” routines and decided to try different workout studios around Los Angeles. It’s funny, I always thought I hated group workout classes (except dance, of course) and then I realized that I actually LOVE them, I just need to find the right ones!
A class I started taking a few months ago that I have absolutely fallen in love with is Bünda! It’s just about the cutest studio in LA EVER (their logo is literally a butt, I’m obsessed) and pretty much everything is pink. More importantly though, it offers a booty-kicking workout (obviously) that doesn’t feel like torture, kind of flies by, and actually delivers results.
It’s essentially broken up into three sections that each consist of time on the Stairmaster (with different variations so it’s not boring) and fine toning exercises on the floor with dumbbells, booty bands, sliders and bodyweight. There’s an Arms & Abs class in addition to Legs & Butt, but half the class is a lower body workout.
While that might sound unappealing to someone looking for a 6-pack or a slimmer waistline, lower body training actually changes your WHOLE body, and that’s the science Bünda is based on. The reason lower body exercises can change your whole body is because the lower body holds the most amount of muscle in our bodies.
So by focusing on your legs and glutes, the body generates more heat, allowing you to burn more calories. And by “muscle mass,” it’s not so much bulk as it just the musculature of the human body! I think so many women get freaked out that they’ll get “bulky” if they train an area too much or use weights…I know I was that way for awhile!
Anyway, if you truly want to see a change in your upper body or abs, training your lower body frequently WILL get you there. The owner of Bünda told me that the first change people notice when coming to Bunda is a smaller waistline, which I 100% believe after taking a handful of classes there!
Some other things I love about Bünda are that the music is FIRE, the teachers are kind and helpful, and it’s not competitive whatsoever (I am nooooot a competitive person, so this is HUGE for me when it comes to workout classes!). You can adjust your weight or level on the Stairmaster as needed.
So! If you’re in the LA area, I definitely recommend heading to Bünda in West Hollywood for a class!! And if you’re not, bumping up the amount of lower body workouts you’re doing is such a great way to build lean muscle, boost your metabolism and burn fat (yep, even when if you’re not exercising the rest of the day!). You can always do intervals on the stairmaster, machines at your local gym, fine toning with booty bands or dumbbell exercises!! We’ll be gettin’ that 🍑 in no time!
Okay it has been a MINUTE since our last Friday Finds, huh?!
Life just took over, guys. I’ve also been feeling slightly uninspired, and I think that’s probably just because I’m in that home stretch to my holiday vacation. It’s interesting how much easier it is for me to be open on here than it is on Instagram where I feel like it’s important for me to be positive at all times. Granted, I don’t want to be a bummer, just wanted to be real with you!
In any case, I’ve still been reading my favorite blogs and media sites because that’s what keeps me sane sometimes! It’s literally the part of my morning routine I can’t give up, no matter how busy I am. Here are some of my faves from the past few weeks!
This week has been, UGH. Just so many ups and downs, yes some personally, but more so with the news. It’s hitting quite close to home this week after the shooting and now extremely serious forest fire in Thousand Oaks where my cousins live. The only good news I can think of is that a recored of 117 women were elected into office and the youngest one is from the town next to mine in New York, so that’s pretty cool! A silver lining to chaos, I suppose.
I just want to share some of my favorites from this week, in case you need to read something other than the news. I know I could use a break!
Woah baby, it’s already November! It’s like I blinked and another month went by😳
October was honestly a pretty fun month for me – I finally stopped traveling, got settled into work, a fitness routine, caught up with friends, went on some adventures, and most importantly – tried some really freakin’ good food.
I’ll just jump into it since I’m already a day late to posting this, but here are all the things I’ve been loving from food to fitness and fashion!
Live Pure Smoothie Cubes – Guys, this product might be the coolest thing I’ve seen or used in a WHILE. I used these superfood cubes to make the smoothie up in that top picture (I mixed their PB & J cubes with the Pitaya Protein cubes!) and then topped it off with the Live Pure granola. Seriously obsessed. There are a ton of flavors (that all contain probiotics), but what’s even cooler is that you can mix them all up to make even more. They give you a little guide when you order! I can’t wait to try the rest😍 If you guys want to see what the hype is about, you can use LivepureJordan to get 15% off!
Health Warrior Protein Mug Muffin – Another product that kind of blew me away this month was these protein mug muffins!! I haven’t ever tried anything else from Health Warrior, but I’ve heard good things and these did not disappoint. I don’t know about you, but I used to make all kinds of mug cakes in my early 20’s (#desperatefordessert) and these are 10x easier and better for you. The flavor is delicious and they just require you to add water + microwave. Such a great idea for a pre or post-workout snack, or even dessert!
Daily Harvest Mint Cacao & Carrot Chia Smoothies – Okay after seeing this brand ALL over my Instagram, I was seriously so happy when they reached out to me so I could finally try it for myself! I wasn’t sure what to expect, or if the hype was even real, but WOW you guys. I’ve honestly loved every flavor, but the Mint Cacao and Carrot Chia are legit incredible. I added some extra greens and protein powder to mine, but they’re amazing on their own. At the risk of sounding like a broken record with these codes, I legitimately just want you guys to be able to save money if you want to! You can use ‘JORDAN3’ at checkout to get your first 3 cups free 🙂
Cotton On Donut Slippers (pictured up top!) – I couldn’t not add these to my list! I bought them earlier this month after a friend sent me a screen shot and I love them SO much. I honestly just love slippers in general, but DONUT slippers?! HECK YES. P.s. They’re literally $10…you gotta do it if you’re a donut lover like me.
New Balance Fresh Foam Cruz – I finally bought myself a pair of new sneakers after having holes in my others for months and doing way too much research on what to get🤣 I love these because they’re super light, SO comfortable, and they go with everything. Might buy them again in another color!
305 Fitness – The workout class my friends have been raving about in NYC is finally in LA!!!!!! I couldn’t tell you how excited I was when I realized they were here – they don’t have their own studio, but they teach classes out of a gym in West Hollywood and now I literally don’t want to do any other workout. It’s basically a super fun, intense dance cardio class with a live DJ and fun lights!! It’s exhausting af, but such a blast, which is the best way to get your sweat on, in my opinion!
Fonuts – I know this place is exclusively in West Hollywood in LA, but I couldn’t not include it! I’ve been a fan of them forever (these donuts are baked and completely gluten-free – most of them are vegan, too!), but I fell more in love with them earlier this month when I got to meet the owners at their re-launch party. They are SO nice and you know I have a soft spot for kind and motivated entrepreneurs. If you’re ever in LA, please of please try these donuts, they’re my favorite in this whole city!
Joe & The Juice Coconut Yogurt + Granola (The Natural Born) – So Joe & the Juice is all over the country and even in Europe, but I apologize if you don’t have one near you because their new coconut yogurt and granola is actually the most ridiculous thing I tried all month. Swear. It’s like…super rich and creamy and kind of tastes like dessert but it’s also packed with nutrients. Their granola was to die for, too! I’ve only been there once since it’s not super close to me, but I am counting the minutes til I can go back – their juices sounded amazing, too!
Alright y’all, that is IT! I hope I didn’t bore you – let me know if you had any favorites from the month or if you’d try any of mine!! Have a very happy November 💜
