My Favorite Way to Stay Hydrated

This post is sponsored by Perrier® Carbonated Mineral Water, but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

Would you hate me if I told you that sometimes plain water just doesn’t cut it for me when I’m thirsty af?

Dancing for Donuts | My Favorite Way to Stay Hydrated with Perrier #ad

Like don’t get me wrong, I LOVE water, but when I really need something to quench my thirst, whether that’s on the beach, by the pool, on the mountain when I’m snowboarding in the winter, etc., I want something with flavor. Y’know what I mean? It’s these times I find myself craving soda or lemonade, but I also know those beverages aren’t the healthiest of choices, and have a ton of unnecessary sugar in them. While plain ol’ water can certainly do the trick, something like Perrier that has some bubbles and flavor to it is far more fun😉

Dancing for Donuts | My Favorite Way to Stay Hydrated with Perrier #ad

I know there are all kinds of carbonated waters out there, but Perrier’s flavored carbonated mineral water is hands down my favorite (and lucky for me, they used to keep our fridge at my last job completely stocked with this stuff!!). It’s not overly fizzy (which can be hard for me to drink) and lightly flavored without tasting sweet or artificial (because it ain’t!). My favorite flavor is the strawberry, which I have a feeling would be veryyyyy lovely in a vodka soda cocktail, but the pink grapefruit is a close second. I’m also feeling these guys in a nice white wine spritzer, but since we’re talking about staying hydrated here (and not on a Friday night), I’ll stick with the non-alcoholic version…

Dancing for Donuts | My Favorite Way to Stay Hydrated with Perrier #ad

And truth be told, I tend to actually prefer a drink like Perrier at a party – it’s zero calories, still feels fun, helps me stay hydrated, and leaves no trace of a hangover. Yep, I’m that girl who shows up with a case of this stuff instead of a 6-pack. Don’t judge me – we’re a “healthy living blog” over here, after all😋

Here are all the flavor options (and dzayum are they good ones):

Peach: Stylish, bold, daring

Lime: Classic cocktail twist

Strawberry: Bubbly, bright, berries

Watermelon: Summer

Lemon: Bright, tart twist

L’Orange: Combination of orange & lemon, subtle, citrus

Pink Grapefruit: Bracing tartness

You can also find your flavor inspiration at Perrier.com/flavors and enter to win a year’s worth of Perrier flavors! So go run and do that because honestly a fridge full of this stuff would be a literal dream.

Pop a fun straw in your glass, a cube or two of ice to cool ya down, a slice of lemon or lime on the side, and pour in the Perrier folks. It’s soooo much better than plain water, I promise.

What’s your drink of choice this summer?

Friday Finds

Happy Friday!!! Is anyone else counting down to Christmas?!

Dancing for Donuts | Friday Finds

It’s just barely starting to feel like fall here in LA (though it’ll be 80 degrees tomorrow, so scratch that…) and I’m so beyond ready to check out, sit in front of a fire, and eat some Christmas cookies. Who’s with me?!

Before we jump into today’s finds, I just want to send my love to everyone in SoCal who’s been affected by these crazy a$$ fires that are displacing people and animals left and right. The first responders & firefighters are legitimately blowing my mind with their ability to fight these things (there were 4 at once people. That’s INSANE.) and keep us safe. If you’d like to help, here’s a good resource for finding out how, and if any of you are in the area and need anything help from me personally, PLEASE do not hesitate to reach out. I’m far enough south to be able to round up goods and bring them to you, house your dogs or cats, whatever you need!

And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming…

How to Stop Comparing Yourself to Others – PLEASE. please. This is something I’ve gotten muuuuch better at over the years, but I still need help, as I think we all do in this era of social media!

Maple Pistachio Granola – This sounds heavenly! I love that it’s not 8 thousand ingredients and is relatively low sugar.

3 Non-Boozy Drinks *Everyone* Can Enjoy – Let’s be honest, I’m not a big drinker, but I loooooove drinks. And also holding onto something at parties, y’know?

Cardamom-Spiced Pear Crumble – Crumble is one of those desserts I think is so beyond perfect for winter. Especially when you add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top😏

Gluten Free Cutout Cookies – More allergen free recipes because I think literally everyone should be in on the holiday cookie fun!!

5 Feng Shui & Decluttering Hacks for a High Vibe Home – This one’s mainly for couples, but honestly, anyone could use these tips…! *raises hand

Lavender Almond Milk Latté

Hello beautiful people!

Dancing for Donuts | Lavender Almond Milk Latté

How is everyone doing today?! I know things have been pretty busy over here trying to get ready for holiday vacation, but I’ve been doing my best to enjoy this time before Christmas when things are kind of extra magical and festive! I definitely need to make my usual holiday cookies and other winter-themed goodies, but lately I’ve been sipping on this lavender latté I’ve made on the daily with a lavender simple syrup I whipped up last week while playing Billie Holiday…it was kind of the most perfect night ever, tbh.

We were recently given a GINORMOUS bag of lavender from one of Alex’s family members who was staying on a farm a bit north of LA, and we weren’t quite sure how to use it. After getting some of your opinions on Instagram, I decided to go with a simple syrup since we can use that to flavor anything like coffee drinks, cocktails, and even food! I don’t actually keep regular white sugar in the house (although I’ll need to stock up if I’m going to make my Christmas cookies!), but I did have coconut sugar. And from there, the coconut sugar lavender simple syrup was born!

The simple syrup takes all of about 10 minutes to make + cooling time, and the latté is super quick, too! It’s not overly sweet, so sometimes I’ll actually add a half of a stevia packet too, if that’s the kind of drink I’m craving. If you’re not into coffee at all (regular or decaf…which I’ve been making in the afternoon!), you could totally just leave it out and make warm lavender almond milk. That actually sounds kind of amazing?!

Dancing for Donuts | Lavender Almond Milk Latté

Coconut Sugar Lavender Simple Syrup

1 cup water

2 cup coconut sugar

2 tbsp lavender flowers

1. In a saucepan, heat 1/2 cup of water over high. Once boiling, add in the coconut sugar and lavender flowers, and lower the heat to medium. Continue to stir so the mixture doesn’t burn for about 10 minutes. *You’re technically supposed to use a candy thermometer here, but homegirl doesn’t have fancy tools like that in the kitchen…

2. After about 8-10 minutes, remove the pan from heat and let it cool. Pour into a mason jar over a strainer to strain out the flowers. Store in the fridge for up to a month.

Almond Milk Latté

1/4 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk

1-2 shots of espresso or 1/2 cup coffee

1 tbsp coconut sugar lavender simple syrup (recipe above!)

1. Heat the almond milk in a mug in the microwave for 1 minute (or over stove in a saucepan, but it’s slower!). Use a  frother to make the milk super creamy. *If you don’t have one of these, I highlyyyyy recommend getting one!! I use mine everyday. Otherwise, you can use some muscle power and a whisk!

2. Add in your espresso or coffee, lavender simple syrup and stir to combine. If desired, add extra sweetener like stevia or honey.

p.s. I only topped mine with the lavender because it looked so crazy beautiful, but if you decide to do that (for Instagram, duh), I would suggest removing the flowers before drinking. They don’t taste amazing straight up!

Dancing for Donuts | Lavender Almond Milk Latté

Have you guys ever made anything with lavender before?! We still have so much left and I don’t know what to make! Edible or not. Maybe sachets, or some bath scrub? Let me know in the comments 🙂

November Foodie Favorites

Hi friends, it’s been a minute, huh?!

Dancing for Donuts | November Foodie Favorites

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and long weekend! I definitely did, but also somehow been unbelievably sick with a cold (and possibly sinus infection?) for a week now, so I had planned on blogging earlier this week and then plans got derailed! My apologies. Either way, I’m back today with another roundup of my favorite foodie finds from the month of November. And friends, it has been a good one.

Dancing for Donuts | November Foodie Favorites

GT’s Living in Gratitude Kombucha – So I know this one isn’t totally fair to post since I’m not actually sure if this flavor is available everywhere, but I felt like I needed to include it because not only was it one of my favorite drinks from this month (obviously), but for every photo of the bottle posted to social with the hashtag #LivingInGratitude, GT’s donates 10 meals to those in need via Feeding America. I think that’s super freakin’ cool guys, but also, it honestly just tastes amazing – not as sweet as apple cider, but definitely hints of that flavor, plus warm & cozy spices. SO good!

Dancing for Donuts | November Foodie Favorites

Further Food Collagen Peptides – So full disclosure, I took biotin supplements for years and still do on days I don’t have collagen, but I will tell you, this stuff is soooo much better than that. It’s amazing for your hair, skin, and nails, has anti-aging properties, AND protein. Like hello, sign. Me. UP. This company is also women owned and run, and you know how I feel about women in business – ALL about them👏👏👏 I’ve been adding this stuff to my oats, smoothies and yogurt when I don’t want to mess with the flavors by adding a chocolate or vanilla protein powder, but I know people add it to their drinks, too. If you want to try this stuff, you can get 10% off with code DANCINGFORDONUTS on their site!☺️

Dancing for Donuts | November Foodie Favorites

Wild Friends Gingerbread Peanut Butter Blend – GUYS. guys. I cannot stress enough how unbelievably EPIC this nut butter is. I literally didn’t want to have more than 2 tbsp on any given day because I was so afraid to hit the bottom of the container and that is saying a LOT. I generally go through peanut butter faster than you can say Christmas. But seriously, this stuff is winter in a jar, slightly sweet but so, so perfect. I put it on top of pancakes, yogurt, bananas, oatmeal…UGH. I actually miss it as I’m talking about it, so I think I’ll go buy another jar tomorrow…

Dancing for Donuts | November Foodie Favorites

Lantana Foods Beet Hummus (up there in pink!^) – I’m not going to lie to you, I originally bought this stuff because it was just so dang gorgeous. Like okay, I’m one of those people that thinks food tastes even better when it looks good, y’know? But the taste of this stuff 100% lives up to its looks because I’ve been adding it to every grain bowl and salad in site and it has been delicious. I got mine at Sprouts along with the Sriracha Carrot kind (also amazing!!) but I want to try their other flavors, too! Hummus is the BEST.

IMG_4260

Moon Deli Golden Turmeric – So if you haven’t seen Moon Deli floating around the wellness world yet, let me be the first to tell you that their powders are incredible. I have a few of their tonics, but the turmeric powder has made it especially easy to make those beautiful & tasty golden milk lattes that are all the rage these days. I simply add one teaspoon to a mug that’s filled with half hot water and half hot almond milk, plus a touch of stevia. It’s one of those things I just feel good drinking. And it goes back to my earlier point in that it’s easy on the eyes, too😉

Dancing for Donuts | November Foodie Favorites

Wanu Water –  Hydration is unbelievably important to me (and admittedly not something I thought about until a few years ago, if I’m being honest!). I’m super conscious of having water by my desk always and drinking plenty before/during/after workouts. That being said, something plain ol’ water gets kind of boring…to me, at least. I avoid sugary drinks like artificially flavored waters or teas just because I know they have absolutely no nutritional value whatsoever, so when I find an alternative that’s flavorful but also is good for my body, I am IN. I’ve been absolutely loving wanu water since it’s infused with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and even fiber. It’s also sweetened with stevia and monk fruit without being sickly sweet like so many drinks out there! My favorite flavors are Kiwi Cucumber and Strawberry Serrano Lime. SO good, y’all!!

Okay, that’s all I’ve got for today, folks. Have you found anything awesome and delicious this month?! I’d love to hear!

What I Ate Wednesday (WIAW #3)

Hi friends! I’m back with another day of eats for y’all!

This post is definitely not meant for anyone to compare their eats to, just to get ideas for some quick, healthy and easy meals! My meals and snacks definitely vary from day to day, and this is an example of a lighter day for me since I didn’t workout at all. You should absolutely feel confident in your choices to nosh on whatever you’d like, everyone is different 🙂

Dancing for Donuts | WIAW #3

So I usually chug a bunch of cold water each morning right when I wake up, but lately I’ve been trying to add some lemon since it tastes delicious and I’ve heard it’s amazing for our bodies. Will keep you posted on that if I make it a habit (here’s hoping!). After that, I make some coffee in our french press and froth some Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Almond milk to have with it (plus a touch of stevia!). I don’t know about you, but coffee in the morning makes me SO damn happy. Like sometimes before I go to sleep I think about how excited I am to wake up and make some because it’s so delicious…is that crazy? (Yes Jordan, yes it is.)

Dancing for Donuts | WIAW #3

Most mornings for the past few months, I’ll make a green smoothie as close to Kelly Leveque’s Fab 4 recipes that I can get. My go-to recipe has kind of a ton of ingredients but I’ll tell you anyway because it’s incredible: 1 scoop vanilla protein powder Garden of Life Greens and Protein Powder, 1 tbsp natural peanut butter, 1 tbsp Powdered Peanut Butter, 1/2 cup almond milk, 1/4 frozen banana, 3 frozen strawberries, 1 cup greens (kale or spinach), 1 tbsp Maca Powder, 1 tbsp Chia Seeds, 1 tbsp ground flaxseed, and water to thin as needed. It. Is. AWESOME. And I love that I can throw so many nutrient-packed items in there to start my day off on the right foot. Whoever invented smoothies is a genius.

IMG_3673 (1)

My smoothie kept me full until noon which was pretty rad since sometimes I need at snack at 11am (which is fine, too!) but today I just had an earlier lunch. I’ve been making quinoa with some salad and I pop it in the microwave with some frozen turkey meatballs from TJ’s (bless that store) and top it with their autumn harvest pasta sauce. It’s a pretty solid lunch with minimal meal prep, so I’ll take it!

Dancing for Donuts | WIAW #3

I did get hungry mid-afternoon so I grabbed one of my Shine Organics superfood pouches in PURIFY just to tide me over until dinner. These pouches are so freaking delicious, like applesauce but tastier and more nutrient-dense, so I downed it probably point 2 seconds but since I knew I wouldn’t be working out that night (all about those rest days!), a smaller snack was perfect. P.s. if you want $1 off your next box of Shine Organics, click this link! You can get them at Target 😉

Dancing for Donuts | WIAW #3

Dinner was pretty simple since my boyfriend is out of town – he usually does the fancy cooking! I’ve been obsessed with the Dr. Praeger veggie burgers on Ezekiel toast with hummus + a side salad. Fully aware this looks like the dinner of a broke college student, but I’m telling you, it’s delicious. I’ve tried a ton of veggie burgers, but these are hands down my favorite!

Dancing for Donuts | WIAW #3

To finish out the night, I had to quell my raging sweet tooth obviously, so I went with a Simply Lite Dark Chocolate Bar (LOVE these). I meant to only have a couple of squares but had half the bar…oops. But also I’m owning it because if you want some chocolate on a casual Tuesday night, do that.

Dancing for Donuts | WIAW #3

And that’s it, y’all. I wanna hear about you, what have you been eating & loving these days?! Sometimes I eat the same things everyday and then I’ll get in a huge rut, so give me ideas! 🙂

Fall Foodie Haul!

Aaaaand we’re back to Monday, just like that.

Dancing for Donuts | Fall Foodie Haul (TJ's, Amazon & Farmer's Market Finds for Pumpkin-Spiced Everything!)

I had a rather productive weekend, to be honest. I did my fair share of Netflix-ing for sure, but I also accomplished a lot of things on my to-do list (ie. grocery shopping, organizing, getting some work done, etc.). And a quick life update – we got the apartment of our dreams!!! I signed the lease Saturday and we move in at the end of the month so I am PUMPED. Know what else I’m pumped for? This weather to stop being 90 degrees. Like I kid you not, I drove to east LA this weekend and it hit 98 degrees on my way. That is not October weather, people!! Looks like it’s going to cool down soon though, and I just did a massive pumpkin-themed haul so things are getting festive UP. IN. HERE.

Dancing for Donuts | Fall Foodie Haul (TJ's, Amazon & Farmer's Market Finds for Pumpkin-Spiced Everything!)

I wanted to share with you some of the most delicious fall foods I’ve tried lately because damn they are good. I did buy a few other things, but they unfortunately didn’t make the cut because I wasn’t all that big of a fan. So, I’ll just leave those out and tell you what I am absolutely LOVING right now that’s getting me in the mood for my favorite season…

Dancing for Donuts | Fall Foodie Haul (TJ's, Amazon & Farmer's Market Finds for Pumpkin-Spiced Everything!)

FitJoy Homemade Pumpkin Pie Protein Bars (Gluten-Free) – Guys if you could’ve SEEN my face when I bit into one of these for the first time…like a kid on Christmas because yes, these are THAT good. I will be honest with you, so many bars I’ve tasted that claim to be “birthday cake” or like, “red velvet” flavored have not made my taste buds very happy, so I was slightly skeptical of these holding up their name. But I will tell you right now, you need to order these asap because once word gets out, they are going to sell out immediately. I think these are so perfect for a sweet treat mid-afternoon or pre/post-workout, but if you’re tempted to reach for dessert after dinner, you could totally just eat half of this and be super satisfied!

Organic Canned Pumpkin – I think this one’s pretty self explanatory, but there is SO much you can do with this can. My greek yogurt pumpkin pasta sauce is a good place to start, or my pumpkin spice golden milk latte, but also in oatmeal, pancakes, smoothies, pumpkin bread, pumpkin cookies…I could probably go on forever. Just grab a can of this stuff (or 5) and you’re set for the season!

Kodiak Cakes Pumpkin Flax Pancake Mix – Is there anything better on a cozy fall morning than pancakes?! No. The answer is always no. And if you’re really trying to step up your breakfast game, I highly suggest you pick up some of this superfood pancake mix from Kodiak in pumpkin spice. The pumpkin flavor isn’t overwhelming at all, but it’s just the right amount of spice for a seasonal breakfast. I love that these are absolutely guiltless too (not that food should ever make you guilty, but you know what I’m sayin’). They have 10g of protein and 5g of fiber in each serving, and are made with 100% whole grains. I put a touch of maple syrup and Fourth & Heart Vanilla Bean Ghee on top and was in absolute heaven.

Dancing for Donuts | Fall Foodie Haul (TJ's, Amazon & Farmer's Market Finds for Pumpkin-Spiced Everything!)

Figs – So I’ll be honest, I always thought figs were like, super expensive, and so I kind of never bought them even though I LOVE them. But the last time I went to the grocery store, I saw that they were only $3.99 for a big container, which may be more than bananas or apples, but was sooooo much less than I thought they’d be! And trust me, they are so worth it. I’ve been putting them on my oats, on top of my smoothies, and straight up eating them standing up in front of my sink. It’s safe to say I’m obsessed…

TJ’s Pumpkin Ravioli – If I could have one thing for dinner every single night for the next two months, it would be these. If you couldn’t tell already, I’m definitely more of a sweet person rather than a savory person, so these ever-so-slightly-sweet little pillows of goodness are riiiiight up my alley. I’ve tried these both with olive oil/sea salt and butter/cinnamon, and both versions are incredible. If you served these with a side salad you might just be able to pass them off as a balanced meal 😉

Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Almond Beverage – Guys. I would not be lying to you if I said I have been putting this almond milk in EV-ER-Y-THING. In my coffee, in my oats, in my smoothies, in baked goods, tea, you name it I’ve tried it. I can’t get enough, which may actually be a problem since I know TJ’s has been selling out of this stuff like crazy. I think it’s probably 12x better than people expected it to be too – just the perfect amount of pumpkin flavor, spices and sweetness, plus it’s a bit thicker than plain almond milk. My only qualm is that there is added sugar in there, so I may actually try to make my own version. Until then, you can find at least 2 cartons of this in my fridge at all times.

Dancing for Donuts | Fall Foodie Haul (TJ's, Amazon & Farmer's Market Finds for Pumpkin-Spiced Everything!)

Honeycrisp Apples – Pumpkin is wonderful and all, but fall is definitely not complete without apples. Autumn makes me miss apple picking and getting cider donuts with my family in the northeast, but the closest thing I can get is to buy the best apples I can find and pretend I’m not in 90 degree LA. I obviously eat apples all year round, but they seem extra special in fall. They’re another great oatmeal topping, but you can also saute them in some ghee with cinnamon and brown sugar and you’ve got a fairly healthy fall dessert!

Fall Flowers – Ok guys, I know this isn’t like, a fooooood, but i think treating yourself to flowers every once in awhile is an absolute must and fall flowers are so perfect for setting the mood! Like lots of things on this list, I bought this bouquet at TJ’s since I think they have some of the best deals on flowers. I also love getting fresh flowers from the farmer’s market (one of my favorite things to do on a cool fall weekend!), and they usual have more unique flowers for a great price, too!

Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spiced Pumpkin Seeds – These are the one item not pictured in that first photo, and they weren’t my absolutely favorite, but I wanted to include them on this list because I’ve been adding them to my oatmeal for a bit of crunch! They’re a little too sweet to enjoy on they’re own, but they’re absolutely delicious and would be amazing on top of a pumpkin smoothie or in fall trail mix!

IMG_3688

Okay friends, that’s it for today. Hope you are having a great Monday!

Pumpkin Spice Golden Milk Latte

I’m baaaaaack!!!

Dancing for Donuts | Pumpkin Spice Golden Milk Latte - Dairy-free, packed with Fiber & Vitamin C, and the perfect drink for autumn!

Apologies for the brief hiatus – Vegas really took it out of me (not shocking for this grandma-at-heart). It is not feeling anythingggggg like fall here in LA and if you know me at all, you know I get homesick without fail every year at this time. I’m a New Yorker at heart, so of course all I want to do is go apple picking and see the leaves change colors, although from the looks of it, it doesn’t seem as though it’s feeling like fall anywhere on the east coast these days. #globalwarming

Dancing for Donuts | Pumpkin Spice Golden Milk Latte - Dairy-free, packed with Fiber & Vitamin C, and the perfect drink for autumn!

But even though I can’t wear my cozy sweaters yet, I’m going to do everything in my power to make this season feel like the one I love so much, and that means starting with PUMPKIN. Please don’t hate me, I know I’m basic as anything sometimes, but there really is just something so comforting about fall spices like cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and nutmeg. I riffed off of these golden milk (aka turmeric) lattes everyone is raving about and added a little fall flare. The combination is UNREAL, if I do say so myself.

Dancing for Donuts | Pumpkin Spice Golden Milk Latte - Dairy-free, packed with Fiber & Vitamin C, and the perfect drink for autumn!

I absolutely love sipping on this before bed since it has no caffeine and feels a bit more decadent than tea. You could even add a tablespoon of coconut oil to make it more filling if it’s a morning or afternoon kind of drink, but I like to keep things light around here right before going to sleep! This recipe actually makes 2 servings too, so you can have one at night and then pop the rest in a mason jar for the next day. I actually had my second serving today at work and it made me SO damn happy. It just like, cozied things up a bit, you know?

Dancing for Donuts | Pumpkin Spice Golden Milk Latte - Dairy-free, packed with Fiber & Vitamin C, and the perfect drink for autumn!

Another thing to note – this recipe includes real pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling!), which makes this drink super creamy and adds fiber, potassium and vitamin C. Not to mention it also has tryptophan (the stuff in turkey that makes you sleepy after Thanksgiving!), which makes it literally the BEST thing to drink before bed.

Dancing for Donuts | Pumpkin Spice Golden Milk Latte - Dairy Free, Packed with Fiber & Vitamin C, and the perfect drink for autumn!

Pumpkin Spice Golden Milk Latte

(makes 2 servings)

2 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk

2 tbsp canned pumpkin puree

1 tsp turmeric

1 tsp pumpkin spice

pinch black pepper (freshly cracked if you can swing it!)

1-2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey

1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

1. Put almond milk in a saucepan and heat on the stove over low to medium heat. Add the remaining ingredients and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring about every 30 minute or so to make sure the flavors really combine and any clumps of pumpkin puree are broken up.

2. Carefully pour pumpkin spice golden milk into a mug and use a milk frother, if desired. *You can totally just drink this as is too, but if you like that part of lattes best and don’t have a frother, you can even put this in a blender (as long as it’s not too hot!) and blend it up for a sec. I also shook mine in a mason jar for couple of minutes with a strong arm and it had the same effect!

3. Store remaining mix in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Shake before drinking.

Dancing for Donuts | Pumpkin Spice Golden Milk Latte - Dairy-free, packed with Fiber & Vitamin C, and the perfect drink for autumn!

Alright y’all, I hope you have a wonderful weekend that’s filled with seemingly fall-ish things, even if it’s 80 degrees where you are, too!!

Staying Healthy On-the-Go [+ My New Favorite Green Smoothie!]

This post is sponsored by my friends over at Kiwami Greens, but the content and opinions expressed here are my own, as always!

Dancing for Donuts | Staying Healthy On-The-Go with Kiwami Greens.

Does anyone else feel like they’re constantly on the move these days?

A little backstory on me: for 5 years I legitimately ran around like a crazy person, driving all over LA from auditions to work to class. When I started my big girl 9-5 a year ago, I honestly thought it would be easier to manage my health, both mind and body, simply because I’d have more structure to my schedule and I’d be in one place. No more snacking on just energy bars (since they were the only thing that’d stay in my car in the heat all day) and wondering when and where I’d get my next meal from. The truth, though? Sitting at a desk all day means wanting to eat out of boredom, the temptation to eat garbage for lunch since I can go wherever I want, and having less time to make a healthy dinner at night once I’m back from my commute, too.

Dancing for Donuts | Staying Healthy On-The-Go with Kiwami Greens.

That being said though, I’m trying to find healthy habits that work around my schedule since that office life probably isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. But even if you don’t have a desk job, it can be really challenging to make health-conscious decisions if you’re constantly going from place to place. I know as a student, or mom, or any working human for that matter, having something right at your fingertips that’s going to give you natural energy and nutrients is key, and often hard to come by. Enter: ridiculously convenient single-serving packs of Kiwami Greens.

Dancing for Donuts | Staying Healthy On-The-Go with Kiwami Greens.

GUYS. I’m not even kidding when I say this stuff is a game. changer. It’s literally the easiest way to make sure you’re getting your greens in, especially when you need a little boost (helloooo 3pm slump). Inspired by the Japanese tradition known as Aojiru, a nutritional greens blend known for its nutritional properties, Kiwami provides an easy way to reap the benefits of high quality young barley leaf, ashitaba (fiber, beta-carotene, vitamin E, calcium & polyphenols), matcha and sencha. It’s non-GMO, vegan, gluten-free AND has prebiotics, which sustain probiotics. This means that if you’re taking probiotics or eating fermented probiotic foods like Kombucha or kimchi, Kiwami Greens makes these “good bacteria” even more effective and are basically pure gold for your gut.

Dancing for Donuts | Staying Healthy On-The-Go with Kiwami Greens.

Can I tell you the best parts, though? You know what, I’ll just go ahead an list them for you right here…

1. This stuff legitimately tastes AWESOME. If you’re one of those people that loves Starbucks unsweetened matcha lattes, I promise you will love Kiwami Greens too because it literally tastes the same but is sooo much better for you (and cheaper!).

2. You can mix it with water or your favorite milk (I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk, but I bet it tastes delicious with cashew or coconut milk, too!). This makes it even easier to enjoy since you can literally get water anywhere. If you’re home though, you can totally put it in a smoothie – my recipe can be found below!

3. You can keep it in your purse, at your desk, in your gym bag, wherever since the packets make it easy to take on-the-go and don’t need to be refrigerated.

4. It dissolves sooooo much easier than regular matcha (and doesn’t have that bitter taste!). You know how regular matcha just kind of clumps together and you need that special whisk or a blender to make it blend? Yeah, Kiwami doesn’t need that.

Dancing for Donuts | Staying Healthy On-The-Go with Kiwami Greens.

If you’re one of those people that likes to hide their nutrients in smoothies, I like to blend 1/2 frozen banana with 1 packet of Kiwami, 1 cup kale, 1/4 cup frozen mango and almond milk or water to taste!

IMG_2637

If you’d like to try Kiwami Greens for yourself, just head over to their website and use code SUMMER10 for 10% off your order!! Let me know what you guys think, ’cause I’m absolutely in love with this stuff.

Have a great rest of your weekend 🙂

5 Recipes to Make Before Summer Ends.

Hi again, friends!

Dancing for Donuts | Peach Caprese Pasta Salad.

I hope y’all are having a wonderful week so far and enjoying the last few weeks of summer! I know I legitimately say this each and every month, but I honestly can’t believe how quickly August is flying by. Fun fact: this is actually my very first summer working a full-time 9-5 job, which I think is making time pass by even faster since summer didn’t feel all that different from spring. Although, that’s partly just an LA weather thing, which I’m fully aware of…haha

Before the season ends though, I’m trying to take advantage of all the wonderful produce summer brings like berries, watermelon, stone fruit and tomatoes. I wanted to share with you a quick round-up of my favorite recipes with these delicious fruits and veggies so that you can enjoy them, too!

Berry Chia Protein Pudding – Make a huge batch and keep it in the fridge for a quick & healthy snack or breakfast!

Dancing for Donuts | Blueberry Banana Baked Oatmeal Cups.

Banana Blueberry Baked Oatmeal Cups – Another amazing make-ahead recipe for babes on budgets & on-the-go!

Dancing for Donuts | Peach Caprese Pasta Salad.

Peach Caprese Pasta Salad – This one’s quite possibly one of my all-time favorite summer recipes! It’s super fresh and only a few ingredients. Perfect for dinner or lunch on a hot summer day 🙂

Dancing for Donuts | Classic Key-Lime Pie.

Classic Key Lime Pie – The perfect mix of sweet and tart, this one’s a crowd-pleaser for sure. Make it for your end-of-summer cookout or to bring to a friend’s house!

Dancing for Donuts | Summer Sips

Sparkling Lemonade – This recipe is super easy, delicious, and just 2 ingredients. Mix your favorite lemonade (I love Hubert’s Diet Strawberry Lemonade!) with sparkling water and you’ve got yourself the perfect summer drink. You could even spike it with vodka if you’re feeling frisky 😉

Alright y’all, that’s it for today! Tell me, what recipes are you planning on making before the summer’s over?!

July Favorites.

I swear I say this every month, but where the F is time going?!

Dancing for Donuts | July Favorites.

I mean literally, this year has flown by, I feel like I’ve barely blinked and tomorrow is August already. Although I will admit, I was going through my photos on the plane back from Napa this weekend (aka my favorite thing to do when I don’t have wifi) and I’ve done a looooot this year already! Like way more traveling and adventuring than I’ve ever done in years past, and that makes me feel better about 2017 being more than half over. Okay anyway, here’s what I’ve found and loved this past month:

Perfect Bar– Ok so I finally tried one of these bad boys! I had to run into Whole Foods (which I never do) and had to splurge for one because I’ve been seeing them everywhere and have only heard good things. I went for the Maple Almond and it was so. friggin’. tasty. 13g of protein + superfoods + gluten-free + real ingredients?! I mean hello, this is a no-brainer. The hype is real because this thing legitimately kept me full unlike most other bars. Granted, it has more calories and costs more so I would hope it would be more of a hefty snack, but yeah. Cannot wait to try the other flavors!

Suja Probiotic Juice Drink – So there was one Sunday that I literally ran around like a crazy person in the heat and then decided to go for a 3 mile walk before work and was therefore insaaanely dehydrated. I wanted kombucha, but found this instead and it was suuuuper yummy! I think it was on sale (2 for $5) so I figured why not, and I’m so glad I tried it. It tasted like a juice and was really refreshing, plus it had probiotics, which I like to have every single day. It didn’t have a vinegar-y taste like kombucha does, though (which I thought was a good thing!).

Pressed Juicery Freeze – This was another thing I was absolutely dying to try after seeing it all over the food-blogging world! I got some on National Ice Cream Day because I was trying to bounce back from a few indulgent days and it was absolutely delicious. So creamy and flavorful, but also really light! I added cacao nibs, strawberries and coconut on top of the vanilla bean, which is made out of their vanilla almond milk, and I was obsessed. The only downside is that this cup cost $6, but hey, #yolo.

Carrot Cake Cookies – I found a healthy breakfast cookie recipe on Pinterest a few weeks ago, and tweaked it to make it even healthier! That didn’t take away any flavor though, these cookies were so good!! They’re basically oats, applesauce, carrots and maple syrup, plus a few other superfoods, so they were pretty dense. I would have a couple each afternoon and they were the perfect pre-workout snack! I love things that are slightly sweet without actually having a crap ton of sugar in them, since I like to have something sweet pretty much after every meal. Can’t wait to make these again and share the full recipe with you guys!

Alkani Cold Brew Maker – I think I may have saved the best for last because this thing is a GAME. CHANGER. Alkani sent me their cold brew maker a few weeks ago and it has been actual heaven each morning when a) my coffee is already made b) it’s cold and c) it’s delicious. All you have to do is put a cup (or so) of fresh coffee grounds in the metal strainer in the middle, wait 24 hours and boom done. The coffee it makes is so smooth and I love the design of it, too!

All of my favorites are linked just under this post! Tell me, what have you been loving lately?! Any good grocery finds?
